I thought I was walking towards the location with the contemporary setting and I ended up at the neighborhood joint that reminded me of a deli. After ordering your base, protein, amd sauce, there are still many toppings to add to your bowl. As far as drinks, they are mostly canned and bottled beverages, no soda fountain. After ordering, they have a machine to dispense hot miso soup; however, it wasn't working during my visit. Overall, my bowl was filling, fresh, and tasty. What more can you ask for? The customization options for the poke bowls allow for a lot of variety so you're sure to find something you like! This is the best poke I have ever eaten. A friend introduced me to FOB Poke Bar a few years ago, and now I make it a point to eat here every time I'm on my own in Seattle. I live across the country, and I usually have the opportunity to eat here only once a year at best. The counter service menu model is the same as at Subway, Chipotle and &Pizza, meaning you pay a fixed rate for each protein option, select a base, a dressing, and add as much of whichever of the many, delicious toppings and garnishes you prefer. The prices are modest for poke: $11-ish if you pass on the main proteins, $14-ish for a standard portion of two proteins, and $17-ish for a jumbo portion of three. There are numerous raw, marinated and cooked protein choices, but what really makes this place a joy for me are the 22 toppings and several garnishes, which include not only the expected seaweed salad, kimchi, edamame, etc., but lots of other yummy items such as two different surimi-based salads, tamago (omelette), and masago (roe). They're tasty, but why did I mention those specifically? Because they're classified as complementary toppings while actually being savory protein sources. Next time, I may save a third of the cost without sacrificing much of the joy by buying the "vegetarian" option. I'm a big guy with a hearty appetite, and I could easily stretch FOB's portions to cover two meals if I could take the half-eaten bowl with me without worrying about spilled it. For an extra two bucks, go for a cup with tofu and kombu that you fill (and refill if you wish) from a miso-broth dispenser. Lemon-flavored water is complementary. This last time I took two colleagues from Latvia (one a pescatarian), and not only were they both very pleased with the food, they also felt they'd gotten a good deal, despite their income at home being lower than that of many Americans. Both said they would follow my example by making it a point to come back to FOB Poke Bar whenever they're in Seattle again. I should have written this review sooner, but I was prompted to do so by the contrast of the amazing FOB Poke Bar with the severely disappointing, overpriced and underperforming Sam Choy's Poke to the Max at gate D6 in SeaTac airport. I really enjoyed my build-your-own bowl from here! I ordered the 3 protein and got Sear ahi tuna, shrimp and spicy tuna mash. Loaded it up with other toppings and sauce. Fob poke bar has been a restaurant I've visited many many times, and has become somewhat of a staple for me. The most notable thing that really sets fob poke bar apart from the competition is their rice. They serve a "FOB" rice, which is really just green tea rice. Every time I come here I look forwards to it, which is packed with flavor, giving it an edge over boring normal rice :P Another thing that has had me coming back are the free Toppings. At most places I've been to, crab salad and seaweed salad cost extra, but I am pleased to say that they are free here! Nothing better than free. Good poke on the go! A friend and I visited on a Tuesday for lunch at around 12:30 and the line was long. We thankfully came in with only 5 people including us in line because minutes later people started piling in and the line looped around the inside of the store. The line goes significantly fast though, so the approximate max wait time, depending on how many people are in front of you, is about 1 minutes per person. So for us, it was about a 5 minute wait. I ordered a regular poke (2 scoops) with FOB rice as my base (white rice with a bit of seaweed bits on top), jalapeños as my mix in (adds a good kick), salmon and scallops as my protein (scallops were a bit raw, no char. Salmon wasnt dry), and wasabi aioli (a bitter mix to coat the jalapeños a bit). It was so filling, i had to take the rest of it home. Staff was working quick to get everyone out as soon as possible. Appreciate them for getting tbe long line out without being rude to their customers. Tables will be available despite how long the line is.
