Our first night visiting San Francisco and we wanted dinner after walking down to Pier 39 to see what was going on. Fog Harbor had great reviews, and they could seat us in 15 minutes, which they did. The garlic bred with blue cheese was so delicious it is hard to describe. You have to like blue cheese though, because they are generous with it. Our seafood entrees were equally delicious, the service was outstanding, and the restaurant itself is very nice. There are several seafood places to try on the pier, but you cannot go wrong if you try Fog Harbor. read more

I made reservations here during my most recent vacation to San Francisco, and it did not disappoint. I had low expectations at first for a restaurant on the pier in such a busy tourist area, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were seated pretty quickly when we arrived and got to sit by the window, which was the perfect view, especially at sunset. I asked the waitress for a recommendation, and she suggested a garlic crab dish. It was delicious and came with potatoes and vegetables, which made it feel like a complete meal. I don't really drink alcohol, but they had a nice bar area, and I saw many people enjoying happy hour. Just an FYI, they do add a 5% surcharge to each bill. I think it's a San Francisco thing, but I'm not entirely sure, just wanted to mention it. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

We were here during the Memorial Day weekend, May 22. The ambiance is amazing. The atmosphere is calming and peaceful. The food we ordered were delicious and excellent. The drinks were superb and so refreshing. We enjoyed savoring every bite of food. I sincerely love their clam chowder, fresh and delicious. The way they cooked it was like the best chowder I've ever had. Our server was very helpful and he explained what's the ingredients and how it was prepared. Sometimes, we can't get this information, especially when a restaurant is super busy; but, our server took his time to explain every detail from the appetizers to their desserts even though they were busy. And he always seemed to be very attentive to what we need. He is so kind and polite. If you love seafood I will definitely recommend this restaurant 100% wherever you're in SF. Would like to come back to this spot. Been many times to Pier 39, however, I did not know about this hidden Gem. First time here and definitely not last. So glad we chose Fog Harbor for our first trip to San Francisco! The service was great, our waitress was attentive and friendly. She even made some suggestion about things to do in the area. I know this is located in a tourist area but it really felt like a high quality restaurant. We had an outstanding view sitting right next to their giant windows. We could see the boats coming in and out at the dock, Alcatraz and the sea lions! I mean what else could you ask for! The food was good. Huge crab and they even gave me some garlic butter for dipping, YUM! This was a great experience and I'm so happy we picked this one over all the other crab houses in the area. read more

I LOVE the seared scallop and crab risotto here! It's the best risotto I've had and the scallop was cooked perfectly. Another highlight were the mussel fries. I liked that it felt like its own dish rather than just fries with mussels on top. The clam chowder was delicious and is the best I've had in SF! The crème brûlée is a good choice too if you're wanting dessert. It gets pretty crowded and loud in the restaurant since the tables are relatively close to each other, and waiters are constantly on their feet trying to serve everyone. But in the two times I've been here recently, the service is excellent. The waiters were attentive and on top of things. You can get more bread if you want, but be careful on what kind of water you order. When they ask if you want tap water, still water or sparkling water, expect that you'll be charged for the still and sparkling waters. We didn't know that the still water costed extra, and we were charged $8.50 per bottle. We wish that the extra cost was disclosed at the start, but now we know for next time. read more

This seafood restaurant on the 2nd floor at the start of Pier 39 overlooking the bay had wonderful service and terrific views of the bay. Try to get a seat by the window. It was packed and we were seated quickly but towards the back and by the waiter station which was just ok. The restaurant was loud and good for big groups of people. They gave us delicious sourdough rolls to start. Known for their clam chowder I gave it a try, topped off with some delicious crab meat. Yummy! However, my Caesar salad came out with regular salad greens and the dressing tasted off :/ Our waiter recommend the house Cabernet which was too light for me - I would have started with a smaller pour had he asked. The Trumbull cab was great but I wasn't expecting it to be $25! I realized once I got the check they automatically gave the larger pour so be forewarned. Overall, worth it for the food and view but expect to pay $$$ read more

I dined in solo at the bar on Friday 6/12/2026 after returning from my Alcatraz tour. The majority of bar visitors seem to be having a drink while waiting on a table. I started with the blue cheese wedge salad which had a ton of toppings and was delicious. I find that most places never put enough dressing on their wedge salads while here almost put a little too much! We decided to dine at Fog Harbor Fish House after hearing so many positive reviews, and it did not disappoint. While waiting for our table, we relaxed in the beautifully decorated waiting area with a cozy fireplace, such a warm and inviting atmosphere. The young hostess was lovely and worked hard to accommodate everyone despite how busy it was. I started with a cosmo martini while my husband enjoyed another glass of Cabernet. For dinner, I ordered the Shrimp Brochette with grilled shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables, and drawn butter wow absolutely delicious. My husband had the salmon with bok choy and vegetables, which he really enjoyed as well. Overall, it was a wonderful meal and we'll definitely be back. Oh, Pier 39, how I love thee. I was in the mood for a lobster roll, so my wife and I decided to visit Fog Harbor Fish House during our trip to San Francisco. They seated us at a table with a view of the water and the boats, and we could almost see Alcatraz from where we were sitting. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated. They clearly want you to feel like you're dining at a waterfront seafood restaurant with a bar right next to the water, and they accomplish that perfectly. The restaurant was really busy and loud, but the food was amazing. I ended up getting the lobster roll, which came with melted butter and French fries, and my wife got the roasted crab with garlic and some vegetables on the side. The lobster was incredibly succulent and juicy. I couldn't complain, especially since it was only my second time having lobster, so I don't really have much to compare it to. They started us off with some rolls, and we ordered a Diet Coke as well. There is a 5% surcharge added to each check to help fund the San Francisco Employee Benefits Ordinances whatever that means. An older couple nearby was complaining about the surcharge, and the staff had to explain it to them. I don't know what the parking situation is like because we took the subway and a trolley to get to Pier 39 from where we were staying in San Francisco. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of public parking, though lots where you can pay to park. It's similar to Santa Monica, so don't expect to park your car for just a few dollars. It'll cost more than that. Most visitors probably take Ubers, Waymo, buses, or public transit when visiting the San Francisco area. Would I come here again? Probably. I would likely try something different on the menu next time, though. read more

While visiting San Francisco... Fog Harbor was the perfect spot to grab a quick lunch once we landed before heading to Napa. My first time in San Francisco and I loved it. The weather could've been a bit warmer but still nice enough to walk around. They were pretty busy when we walked in, but there were plenty of bar seats available. We had a nice bartender who talked to us about everything from tequila to weather. We ordered the Fried Scallop Appetizer which was just ok since we thought the scallops were a bit chewy. The clam chowder was also just ok but we probably compared it to Boston's best. We still enjoyed our time here, tired from our early flight, but the views were the best. read more

My family and I came on a Thursday night without a reservation, and the wait was about 10 minutes for a table! We ordered the bruschetta and tuna tartar to start. I had mentioned being dairy free to the waiter but when my mom ordered the appetizers, she forgot to ask to not add the cheese on the bruschetta - so when the food came out, the waiter was so gracious to take it back quickly! The tuna tartar was not my fave.... It didn't taste as fresh as other tuna tartars that I've had! Overall apps were 3 out of 5. My cousin ordered the clam chowder - and it was good to her! She has gotten the bread bowl as well but opted for the cup today. For the main dishes - my mom got the chicken pesto pasta and thought it was overall very creamy and delicious! I got the salmon club salad which was great as well (although I asked for bacon on the side and they had to take it back and do it again; came back out quickly!) and my cousin ordered the lobster roll (her first time trying a lobster roll and it was great!). Overall, the view of the harbor is fantastic and the restaurant was a cozy place for us all to catch up and have a good time! Fog Harbor continues to reign top of my list for best creme brulee in the city. We come here when we want scallops and creme brulee as a treat to an especially rough week and trust me, there are many of these. On this visit, instead of ordering the scallops with crab risotto, we ordered seared scallops à la carte. We also tried their garlic crab and filet mignon with our of our go-to bruschetta apps. The demiglaze on the filet gave me an insatiable craving for more... I wanted to pour that glaze on everything! The filet was tender and cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes were light and airy. Overall a great dish! The crab had a satisfying garlic aroma to it but in all honesty, it's only shell deep, you get a hint of the garlic when the crab is shelled but it will leave you wanting a lot more as the ratio of garlic to crab is highly disproportional. Since it's San Francisco, the crab is of course Dungeness, while my personal preference is snow or king, but still satisfying none the less. The bruschetta is a tried and true dish for us so we knew we'd love it. A slight kick with the balsamic but not overpowering at all. And of course the star of the dinner is in fact the scallops and creme brulee. Both creamy in their own way, the scallops come with burre blanc but is great just as is. Creme brulee has just the right amount of vanilla and the sugar melted just right. The ambiance is a good mix of locals and tourists especially because it's at Pier 39, and service is pretty standard. I've never been here where they're not super busy, so expect your server to be fully servicing a large crowd all the time. read more

We chose this place after hearing so many great reviews, especially about the clam chowder, so our expectations were very high. Unfortunately, the chowder didn't quite live up to the hype during our visit. It was quite thick, heavy on potatoes, and lacked the depth of flavor we were hoping for. We both ordered bowls with crab, and for the price--around $40 for two bowls--it didn't feel quite worth it. That said, the scallop risotto was outstanding. The scallops were incredibly fresh, juicy, and possibly some of the best we've had. We would absolutely recommend trying that dish alone--it was the highlight of our meal. Overall, while the clam chowder didn't meet expectations this time, the scallop risotto was exceptional and worth coming back for. The ahi tuna poke sounds basic but looks and tastes way better than it sounds. The steamed clams were good, they've got some Mexican flavors with corn, roasted tomatos, garlic. A very solid dish and comes with a lot of clams. The scallop and crab risotta is a classic, and one of their best dishes. It is soft, smooth, creamy with buerre blanc, and full of flavor. The scallops are perfectly cooked as well. Garlic Roasted Whole Dungeness Crab is the thing to get at Fog Harbor Fish House; reasonably priced at $58, each meaty, garlicky piece was so good dipped in clarified butter. My bf ended up sharing his order with me because I didn't enjoy my Cioppino ($42.) The seafood was bland, all tasting very much alike, & the broth didn't give off that complex spicy tang that my favorite cioppinos possess. My table started with an appetizer of Red Chili Garlic Shrimp ($18) -- from the description, we were expecting a dry, possibly sautéed preparation & were disappointed that the shrimp were sitting in a watery broth. Though I was letdown by my picks here, I know my group enjoyed theirs. We were treated very well by our waiter & by the host who gave us a beautiful window seat; we enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the bay. Visited Fog Harbor Fish House during my last SF business trip as work ended early for the day. This spot gets quite busy for dinner so late afternoon was perfect as I was able to get seated immediately and no big crowd. So glad I did as the weather was so nice, warm and sunny! There is ample parking right at Pier 39 with the parking garage right across the street. First hour parking is also free as the restaurant validates 1 hour parking so that is a big plus! Plenty of dining tables and I requested to be seated by the window. Sweet bay view with the sun blazing! Started with a glass of Pinot Noir and it was sooo good to help relax! For appetizer, ordered a bowl of clam chowder with crab that was amazingly delicious!! For the main dish, got the grilled salmon filet over quinoa, dried cranberries, tomato relish, lemon vinaigrette, blurred blanc, and crispy onions. It was awesome!!! I went to this restaurant with some friends and thought it was really nice. Our friends were from out of town and they thoroughly enjoyed the views while we ate our lunch. Aside from that, the menu has plenty of options. I tried the clam chowder which doesn't have bacon (which I don't eat). Lastly our server was great and very attentive. I can't believe I'm writing a glowing review for a Pier 39 restaurant, but here I am. I say this with all love, as I've been visiting this attraction nearly 50 years, but 5-star food is not the foundation of Pier 39's reputation. Nevermind that seafood is so easy to miss on -- it has to be (a) as fresh as possible and (b) skillfully prepared. For this reason I don't dine out much for seafood, I'd rather control the variables myself and eat it at home. And when I'm at Pier 39, I indulge in carnival food - I don't aim for top-notch seafood, not anywhere at the wharf, TBH. However, it's hard to spend a day seaside and not get a craving for fish, so Fog Harbor it was, and I'm so glad we chose it. My daughter and I planned to go with fish for both our appetizer and our main, but FH has a special crab menu right now, so we started instead with crab ceviche, and chose miso glazed salmon for our main. Before either of our dishes came out, our lovely server Triana brought us warm sourdough bread that was fresher and better than what we'd eaten earlier in the day down the street (hint, it starts with a B). I also appreciate that they didn't bring us *too much* bread. Lesson here: do it right, and leave people wanting more. The crab ceviche starter was INCREDIBLE. Eye-rollingly delicious, truly. I wanted another plate of it as soon as we finished it, but just then our salmon arrived. The main course also did not disappoint, it was an impeccably cooked salmon with the most delicious glaze. All the accompanying vegetables and rice were perfectly prepared and seasoned. Special shout out to the kitchen for the bok choy prep! Many restaurants leave the bulbs whole or halved for plate appeal, but I'd much rather they chop it up, not just to save me the work of it, but smaller pieces take on more flavor, and the flavor of this miso-based dish was super delish. Fog Harbor nailed everything so well, even beyond the food. The restaurant's ambiance is invitingly warm and casual while still offering a fine dining experience. The views from the windows are stunning, and the varied lighting and well-thought out acoustics are spot on. It's so great when a restaurant sounds lively but not noisy, and when lighting is bright enough to see faces and food, but low enough to feel cozy and intimate. This is especially important for dinner in a restaurant like Fog Harbor, where looking out and appreciating the lights of the City and the moon's reflections on the Bay are all part of the experience of dining here. Finally, a huge compliment to our wait staff Triana -- what a joy she was to have serving us. Super professional, she knew all about our food, it's preparation and freshness, and she was also a blast to chat with, I really hope she's our server the next time we visit! read more

We made a reservation for Father's Day, for our group of 7. Even though we reserved a table, they sat us at a high top table right by the door where people were walking in and out. Instead of a nice family experience, we felt like we were in a bar and had to talk loud to hear conversation. Seating was disappointing, especially because we had reservations and wanted a nice table to celebrate the special occasion. I even asked to have a table, and they said "well at least here, you can watch the TV"..... we were a group of 7, there to celebrate, not come there to watch tv. The server did not clear the table when it was full of plates, and instead placed two bowls on top of the dirty plates for us to use. I had to hold up the bowls and ask the server to please clear the dirty plates. It was hard to find our server as well, and he kept forgetting to bring our items. Two stars for quick food arrival. It was a shame that that was our experience-- it was below expectations, and not worth the money we spent... having to feel like we were at a loud bar with lack of service. read more
