If you end up in Brasilia, which I highly recommend that you do - ask any local and they will tell you a must eat restaurant is Fogo de Chao.
Fogo de Chao is a Brazilian Churrascarria. A churrascarria is a place where meat is cooked churrasco style. What is churrasco style? Simply put, it's barbecue.
Fogo de Chao is located in the midst of a quadrant dedicated for hotels. It's a large, spacious restaurant and it's style is inline with most brazilian barbecue restaurants. Meaning that it's an upscale, business casual environment. As mentioned due to the location, many internationals and brazilians from other areas of brazil come from the neighboring hotels for dinner.
As an upscale establishment you can expect the wait staff to be on their game and attentive to your needs. I would recommend getting a caipirinha (for those that don't know it's basically a Brazilian mojito). When ordered the restaurant staff will make it for you at the table. It is one of the better caipirinhas you can get as ratio of cachaca, lime juice, sugar and ice is really on point.
Churrascarrias typically have a "salad" bar - i use the word salad here very loosely because despite their being actual salad there are also an assortment of other non-salad items such as antipastos, cured salmon, cheeses, charred vegetables. This "salad" bar is help yourself. Do not get full off this despite the deliciousness.
Once you are done with that, the real fun begins. Wait staff walk around with meat on large skewers. You have a token on your table - one side green, one side red. Green means go. Go means they come and offer to cut you a slice of meat on to your plate. The different wait staff all have different cuts of beef. Occasionally, they will have some bbq-ed pork. All of the barbecue at Fogo de Chao is good. I would recommend it.
On top of that they also bring fried yuca, grilled chicken hearts, and other small things.
The total for the bill was around 550 Real. Tipping in Brazil is about 10% so plus 55 meaning 600BRL. With the current exchange rate being close to 2 to 1 that means the bill for 4 was around 300USD. 70 bucks per person including drinks. Business class meals.
Fogo de Chao is a very true, very good representation of authentic delicious Brazilian barbecue. Make sure that your boss is treating though! read more
