I just found out a friend of mine is staying there, while talking bto her. She informed me their meals lack in nutrition. I took the liberty of calling different places and come to find out they all serve Warm meals, except this place. This place needs to be reported for not providing the services to the woman their. Really wanted to believe this was a good program, but I have had so many problems here that have set me back in my goals while my children are depending on me to provide for them. Within the first week of staying here, I got a cold. Before arriving I had been on the street for a few months and remained healthy. I get colds maybe once every few years. The culprit for the cold was some women don't and ARE NOT REQUIRED to shower to keep their bodies, clothes, sleeping areas or bathrooms clean (1 bathroom per bungalow) which causes an atmosphere of not only extreme odor, but more importantly creates an unsanitary environment that is not healthy to breathe in. The central heat they have is great for winter, but, with minimal to no ventilation and the heater blasting...imagine. Was told by the director that the determining factor on keeping windows open or shut and/or heat on or off was majority decision of women in bungalow instead of enforcing what is healthy for everyone. TB tests are required, but not prior to entry. They also allow women to bring their dogs to sleep inside a small 3 bedroom bungalow with up to 3 women per room (as long as the dog is in a cage and supervised. Another issue I had was women being aggressive verbally and physically. Those women remained in the program after several unnecessary incidents. Even had staff raise their voice at me and displayed some aggression over issues that weren't extremely serious. They allow women to come in drunk and high. They confiscate glass, metals, potentially harmful objects, sharp objects, etc; but allow women to have lighters. Had several items stolen as well. There are weekly meetings. During the first meeting I attended, there were complaints that some women were masturbating at night. The staff response was telling women if they need to or choose to do so, that they can go in the bathroom and do that for 15 minutes maximum with no sound. They also have donations in large amounts; food, clothes, toiletries, etc., but barely share or show a desire to share with the women who are clearly in need. Seems as though the staff is using what is donated. I was also injured here because of a bunk bed that was not properly put together. I fell off the top bunk because of a loosely secured railing and hit the hard wood floor which made my body extremely tight and sore. I was asked if I needed medical help and I said no. I was given a regular twin bed to sleep in until the bunk was fixed. But, after I declined medical care I was placed right back in the same top bunk I fell from after a few days. The staff seemed to be unconcerned....as with mostly everything else. Anytime there was an important issue brought to staff's attention, and it was close to the weekend, the staff says the director/supervisor will handle it on monday. Have been here since early November and been told they are short staffed, but was told after a minor injury that I could not keep the single twin bed because there were no more beds available, even though the new lady coming in did not have any physical issues preventing her from climbing up and down the top bunk. So question is, with such short staff, why are they filling up all the beds??? Supposedly. My guess is the more people in the program, the more money they receive and gives them a better feel for job security (at the expense of the women who need and should have priority to utilize the resources safely and comfortably). I am so disappointed in my experience here that I am currently searching for another shelter because on top of my already difficult life situation, it's added to the stress. Only because they provide all basic needs for free do I put one star and I would not be able to leave a review without one. The good unfortunately has not outweighed the bad in my experience here and I would recommend finding a place other than this if this is not your only option. Unless of course the staff favors you in some way, as not everyone gets the same treatment. Good or bad. One of the main things to know as well is they work with the local sheriff's department. I was tipped off that their staff participates in phony investigations against innocent women in their program using illegal live-streaming spy cameras (everywhere, including bathrooms), organized stalking and covert harassment; with residents participating as well. That means all staff and residents are able to see the target via camera on their phone anywhere; as well as real-time GPS location access capability. Apparently, tax dollars pay for this 24/7 operation. Volunteers of America runs this property, so they must give the go ahead for this program to operate within the property. Which must explain the extreme mistreatment I have received here. So I guess I can say, enter at your own risk. Wouldn't want them to get shut down, but God-willing put some people working here that actually have morals and fear God. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Horrible. read more

Foley house is a women's transitional housing. They offer bridge housing. The facilities look beautiful. Looks can be deceiving. There is a main house and then 5 bungalows. Each bungalow has 3 bedrooms with 2-3 beds in each. There is a bathroom and a living room which has a sofa and a table with 4 chairs as well as a refrigerator and a microwave on a small cabinet. The refrigerator is used for the 6 20 oz drinks each client is allowed and for nothing else. The microwave seems unnecessary as there is a hot and cold water dispenser. Unless you want to warm up the drinks you bring in. There are no food items allowed in bungalows at any time. You will get written up for food items found inside. The rooms have 2-3 dressers and have a closet in each. There is a hall closet that no one is allowed to use as well as a cleaning closet that is open from 7-9 am daily. It has a Swiffer spray cleaner and rags as well as diluted cleaning solution. The reason the Swiffer mop is there is because hourly checks are made by staff which make floors constantly dirty. The reason for so many visits are unknown. The blankets sheets and towels are provided and even though they are cheaply made they are required and have to be washed using the detergent that causes rashes on sensitive skin. You are allowed to wash 1 load a week with this detergent that doesn't clean very well and causes rashes. The majority of sheets do not actually fit and constantly are coming off as you sleep. There is a plastic mattress cover that is bulky that prevents these cheap sheets from fitting correctly. The pillow is plastic as well. There is central heat and air conditioning which tends to be too hot or too cold. If you have a tendency to be cold you must wear layers to bed because you will freeze at night with only the thin acrylic blanket to use. Outside linens are prohibited. While the majority of staff is caring and helpful the few bad apples.. Jennifer , and Summer make the experience a nightmare. Both of them like to pretend the clients are inmates and treat them like inmates. Unfortunately complaints to the staff are unhelpful and then retribution for complaints makes for an even more unsatisfactory stay. Hopefully they retrain their employees and explain it is a shelter not a jail and that even though the clients come in at the lowest point in their lives they are still human and deserve to be treated as such. This place is a womans PRISON! They don't let you have anything and or offer anything at all. DO NOT come to this place! They take away the simplest smallest thing away from you and only allow you to have 1 water bottle and one soda and only allow you 20 mins to eat your food and search thru all your bags invasion of privacy! Foley House is a women's homeless shelter. They provide free room and board. You have the responsibility to be actively trying to better your situation, and to follow the rules of residency, while living on there property. It's a gorgeous property with a main house that all offices and personnel work out of. The ADA room is also located in the main house, for those with physical issues. There are also five small cottages on the property, where the majority of women are housed. Each cottage has three small bedrooms, one bathroom and a living room with a couch, large flat screen TV and a table with four chairs. Each bungalow also has a water cooler (serving both hot & cold), as well as a refrigerator. The house and bungalows are clean and pest free. They permit you to do laundry, also at no charge. The staff is caring and attentive. Case managers do their best to aid and assist residents to get all services and assistance that they need and are entitled to. People that have had problems getting along in and/or with the Foley House program, have been people that come in with bad attitudes and feelings of entitlement. In the long run...you just have to respect their rules (as you should when living in anyone's home) and you will fare well in this shelter. read more

The Foley House was previously a drug and Alcohol treatment center sold the establishment recently to Volunteers of America to open its doors to FEMAles who are homeless and in need of shelter. At first thought sounds good, at first sight looks promising for some that might be true but for others it turned into a complete disaster like it did for me. When I first got there it wasn't to bad the staff for the most part seemed to care and be concerned but as the days went by all the hopes and promises they made just went out the door. We had a 7pm curfew whuch shortly after was extended to 8pm. That helped a lot. Each house had there own refrigerator and microvawe as well in which was nice we were allowed to keep beverages and snacks in and we were also provided a shelf to keep other food items. But within a month's time rules began to change daily drastically. So ultimately we were no longer able to have any food items at all and basically were only allowed 4 items total in drinks only. The day by day changes wuthin the facility made ut very difficult to live by. Most of us went there fir shelter and help. But in return were guarded as if we were prisoners on death row or suicide watch. The rules they set up were not to our best of i retest as they would say so. They had more rules in place then even county jail has. No razors, no mirrors, no glass items, no tweezers just to name a few. No extra pillows or blankets were given out wirhout a Doctors note and also was required if any special diets were needed. But when I provided a doctor's note for my needs I was questioned of its authencity. I was highly offended by there behavior and was told they would need to verify it. I was refused my snacks and my case manager never even attempted to verify anything with my Doctor. They showed directly that they had no concern of my well being. In short they pick n choose who they care to help and extend there services to in the end and will keep people there that shouldn't be granted extensions and let some people get away with things that others have got kicked out for. The staff there is mainly ran by afro-Americans with only 3 Hispanics working and no White personnel at all employed. They stress that it is only a temporary 90 day program but have some there who remain that have been there 4, 5 and almost 6 months but I was only able to stay there 3 1/2 months before they refused to give me an extension saying my time was up and I had to leave even when I produced a letter from my Doctor stating that it was not in my best interest to be moved at that time. They still didn't care that I was a elderly, physically and mentally disabled woman with no other place to go they still k7cked me out into the streets they offered me a ride to there sister shelter way across town in Los Angeles near 88th st. Clearly knowing that was not to my wantsbor liking or even reasonable. Or suggested a rehabilitation center. Why would I want to go to a rehab when that wasnt something I needed.? I deeply feel I've been discriminated against and I wish that others who have been wronged by this program speak out so this doesn't continue to happen. So if you do decide to go or end up in this program BEWARE!!! Looks are very deceiving they pull no punches in the end. Don't be late not even a minute over curfew cuz you will get written up for it and it will be used against you in the end even if you have a valid excuse. And unless your a 19 year old Christian with a certain case manager or favored by the Director. Religious purposes aren't considered when it comes to override passes or late passes. I was warned and written up for attending a religious service celebration across town for Victory Outreach with my daughter and stayed out. When They could of easily gave me permission but refused. But come back drunk or intoxicated no problem just sit it out with them until you sober up. That's okay though. But anyway there's much more that I haven't said but to me its just a money racket there playing so play wisely or you'll come out worse then when you went in. read more
