During a short stop in Sevilla, we went on a search for tiles from Triana and ended up at a small,…read morewinding shop in the Santa Cruz barrio based in a New York Times article related to tile shopping in Sevilla and Lisbon. The tiny storefront hid the true nature of the store, which we saw expand further and further as its tile and pottery-filled rooms looped back and around to showcase a wide variety of products. We were in search of a tile to remind us of the Alhambra, and found one that featured the solid colors and geometric patterns prevalent in Moorish architecture. The store owner explained that tis tile was special and different from the rest, which were comprised of a wide area of styles, new and old. Overall, this shop featured nice, albeit a bit pricey, tile and pottery products with a helpful owner to help you find what you're looking for.

I spent 45 lovely minutes chatting with the owner and picking out antique tile. (I'm usually the type of shopper that's in and out but there are simply too many fun things to look at here) They have a lot of antique tiles and some new stuff. Ranging from 10 euros to 25 euros. Once you see the antique tiles, the new stuff just can't compare. And by the way, when I was leaving Spain, I did a quick browse at the airport gift shops and had to pat myself on the back again for finding all my gifts at Coco Sevilla. For 20 euros at the airport, you can get a mug that says Seville on it lol Definitely spend a couple hours wandering over to the shop, the surrounding streets are charming anyways.

The tiles are original, recovered from local buildings that either are being demolished or updated. Fantastic find that I'm going to hang in my entry in the US. The merch and trinkets combined, make for a colorful pallet that will illuminate your eye. Pots, pans, mirrors, wallets, earrings... everything you can think of... made especially for you. Locally sourced: it's beautiful to know that something you're taking home from vacation. has been made by people who know the land. I like for my souvenirs to hold authentic energy and once I entered Arjé, store I almost missed because it's not as flashy on the outside as it is on the inside, I felt that energy... mixed a longing for something to take with me... Surprisingly enough, I didn't. Which is kind of ironic, isn't it? Since I'm praising the store? Don't worry I'm no paid influencer that is aimlessly trying to get you to use my promo code. I enjoyed the store, but I kind of felt overwhelmed... Was it a sensory overload? Who knows... Would I go back to take a trinket? Or do I feel this way because I was surrounded by beautiful things, by splattering colors, by maximalism that prickled al of my senses? Maximalism. Lots of great food including wine, charcuterie, snacks, etc. El Corte Inglés is a bit more expensive than other grocery stores, but you get the convenience of shopping for home decor or fashion in the upper floors and then get some groceries on the way out. Known faulty model being sold. Fishy stuff…read more I bought an iron on "summer sale" here but it didn't work right. I went back to exchange it for one that did. But, absolutely none of the irons in any of the boxes of that model worked correctly. They said it looked like there was a problem with the model. When I tried to deal with the problem the workers were not volunteering any options. I had to propose any possible resolutions. Even so, they turned down each and every one, including a painless option that I keep the iron but they extend my trial period a little longer. To that I got a flat out almost one word response, "No." All I wanted was an iron of the same quality that worked but they blocked me all the way. I wrote an email to the main customer service. They took a week to get back to me (coincidentally a day before my satisfaction guarantee ran out?). When I finally got their final response it was that my request was refused I could only get my money back. Went back there yesterday, all the boxes of faulty irons are still on the shelves. It's hard not to think that the iron was on sale to either get rid of this faulty model, or to push people into buying a higher-priced (non-sale) one when the first one didn't work, a win-win for them. Corte Inglés may feel familiar to you because of its department store format but when there was a problem with my item, their workers treated me with a disinterested and dismissive attitude. They offered me no options except that I keep my faulty item, pay more, or, after much hassle, "just call it fair and square" and get my money back, all while they continue to sell a defective iron. FYI it wasn't a language or cultural barrier. Every Spaniard I've met has said that my Spanish is very good. Go to a ferretería for appliances/hardware, etc. These mom and pop shops have good customer service AND the money stays with the local economy. Plus, you get to live a little like a local.
