I always have a good time when I come to Rain Dogs and this time was no exception. Great drinks…read moreand conversation with great friends! After putting in so much work for Moonbeam Bash, it was so nice to be able to come here, sit for a spell (alright, it was much longer than a spell), relax, and have a ton of laughs. I personally just stuck with soda because I had way too much vodka from Tito's at MBB, but hubby enjoy a couple of nice beers from Intuition. It was so great to finally get the chance to meet Steve E. from Yelp Tampa at MBB, and I'm so glad he decided to join us here after the after party. He's such an amazing Yelper and tons of fun to be around! Mark wasn't even kidding when he said we may have just sat there all night talking because we totally closed the place down. Even after they had turned off the music and started cleaning up, we were all still talking away at one of the tables outside. A big thanks to Rain Dogs for participating as one of the vendors at MBB and for putting up with all of us rowdy Yelpers after the big shindig! Until next time, Yeeps.... SYOY! =)

After an amazing second year of the Moonbeam Bash, all of us, who volunteered and worked the event,…read moreneeded a place to go and wind down. We ended up at Raindogs, which worked perfectly as it was a Monday and a slow one, at that. We all got a round of beers and just sat chatting the rest of the night away. I like Raindogs because it's a bar for everyone. You will see people from all walks of life come walking through the doors. I think we brought some spice to the bar on this night, as this year's Moonbeam Bash was based around cosplay, so we had folks in and out of costume. No one seemed to bat an eye, though, and it's something that I'm starting to really love about our big, little city. I was in a stout mood, for beer, that night, which Raindogs doesn't carry much. However, I was in luck and the bartender suggested an awesome one from Great Divide Brewing Company out of Denver called Yeti. For those guys who need a hand putting a little hair on their chest, this would be a stout to drink to help with that. We have an awesome group of Yelpers, and I love get togethers like this because we can focus more on getting to know each other. Since the start of the year, we've been having some fun after parties, and we need to continue on this trend.

I'm glad I got free tickets. Frankly, what a waste of a trip out…read more Upon walking alongside the event all you see is an open field. Not much to it, just a few blow up games and bales of hay. Lots of tents selling beer. Upon entering the event we were searched and stripped of our water bottles. We had to throw away about 3 brand new bottles of water. At least he was kind enough to let my children have their bottles of water because they sure as heck were not going to be buying beer! I went with my family in hopes of giving the kids a different experience. Frankly, the Kidsfest portion of the festival was a joke. A double sided slide, a large football toss, some face painting and pumping bowling was all that there was for the kids. Mainly my children were mostly exposed to seeing a lot of people drinking outdoors. The more popular and fun games were for adults only: oversized beer pong and connect four. The beer was overpriced and there wasn't any real selection of brews available. I also hear that the $40 VIP was a sham and just a shaded area for drinking so you weren't exposed to the sun. I'm highly disappointed that it would be hailed as a family friendly event when they really had no family friendly activities for the children. For getting in for free, I can at least say I got what I paid for because I would have been mad if I had to pay for entry. For what I got out of the event I could have gone to World of Beer to get my fix of beer tasting. I have to say though. The highlight of the whole thing was finally meeting our awesome CM Allie.

I had much higher expectations for this festival than it delivered. I recognize that it's the first…read moreyear for this festival- but that's not enough to excuse it. I went to an Oktoberfest in Michigan in my youth (well, youthier youth ;P) and remember it being TOTALLY overrun with people, in a wooded lot and there were long community picnic tables for everyone to gather and eat/drink at in a shaded area, there was TOO MUCH food to choose from, my father was uber impressed with the beer selection, they had authentic polka bands playing and all sorts of fun for the kiddies. This one had fun for the kiddies... the similarity ends there. The beer and food selection was minimal, with hardly anything to offer that one thinks of when they think of Germany. (German chocolate cake, one type of bratwurst, and some crappy pretzels? REALLY?) One vendor even ran out of food completely and had to send for more. There was hardly any shade in sight, even the VIP tents got sun at one point or another through the day. Most of the music consisted of older and newer rock 'remixed' with a crummy scratch loop, or what sounded like an open mic night wailing from the VIP tents. The giant beer pong and connect four were there as advertised, but the connect four was half broken. I never did find the giant Jenga or corn hole that was advertised. Lots of fun events were advertised, but I missed them ALL because they weren't advertised readily with a TIME. Super disappointed in the organization and delivery of this event. (Noon-8, games of jaxtoberfest. Wow, thanks for being specific!) The only reason it gets 2 stars instead of a 1 is because of the yelp and Dachshund rescue tents. I wish I could have seen the weiner dog races, had an awesome brat, and an authentic pretzel... but cute dachshund photos eased the pain, along with some free yelp shwag, hanging out with my yeeps, and watching kids spin the wheel o' yelp.
