There isn't that much in Woolworths that we need, but it still makes us happy to pay a quick visit every once in a while after work. Everything you need in a grocery store is here. I just wish it was as big as the Wal-Mart I saw in Texas. Depending on what you need, you can spend anywhere from $10 to $120 as you exit the store. By the way, I scored a brand new computer desk lamp for only $19.95!! Where else can you buy such a thing for a low price? That's half the price of the lamps that rip you off at other places! I needed one desperately for my long hours of yelping in front of the computer because the old lamp that served me for 15+ years finally ran out of globe life. If you hunt properly, you can actually find some great grabs for less than $5! They're always doing low-price promotions here! I love it! I don't usually carry much cash, but that's okay! There are plenty of those swiping machines for you to use now, when you've collected all your items. Yay! God bless the staff in green for helping everyone out when they're stuck on the swiping machines, as we walk out. God bless this new invention for supermarkets! I wonder if any other non-grocery stores will take this concept on? So I walked out with new boxes of tissues for my hayfever in less than 5 minutes. In and out. If only I had more cash for groceries, I'd actually love this store because they are the number one most profitable supermarket business in Adelaide, and none of their competitors come close to the amount of profits "Woolies" make every year. And I must commend the staff in their green uniform, thank you for the friendly chat when I needed to decide which orange juice to buy, and the difference between the Aussie juices and the imported juices. However, this depends where you are exactly. If you're shopping on the upper level (there are only two levels), then you have a very slim chance of being helped in the aisles (no-one's there!), and that's not right because that's where customers need the most help = finding things! Nevertheless, I ALWAYS find myself drifting back and forth inside here everytime I'm in Rundle Mall. I confess, I'm a certified Woolworths regular.

I've seen the manager talking to his staff on many occasions and he always looks friendly and approachable. I have also been offered the opportunity to provide feedback on a few occasions. I'm just about to move houses and Unley Woolworths is no longer my closest supermarket, but more than happy to drive a few extra minutes for great range and service.

The fruit and veg section is a tad hit and miss in terms of freshness and quality, but as are every other IGA. I love their range of Kitchenhand pre-made salads, Enzo and Cibo pre-made pastas and chicken dishes and the good quality antipasto products (great for entertaining). This IGA also comes with an in-house butcher and deli that serves up lunchtime chips and gravy specials, baked goods as well as fresh cuts and marinated quality red meat. It is not actually run by the IGA but helps in making this place a midweek "one stop shop." Prices are reasonable for a small convenience store and I enjoy the consistently friendly and efficient service (even when you rock up in thongs and trackies on a Sunday arvo).

I was rapt to find out that they had opened a store in Mitcham Square, where you can buy the best of their sauces (bottles) and freshly made pastas, gnocchi, lanagne. Everything looks really good. It's a bit on the expensive side, but for what you're getting it's well worth it. I love the huge pasta shells, which work well with any sauce. They also sell other products, so stop in for a look.

There's a selection of all sorts of products on offer from cheeses to pasta and ready made meals. Lucia's also have their own range of products as well as a range of gift boxes that are unique to South Australia. You can buy everything from Lucia's pasta sauces to their coffee blends. My personal fave is Lucia's Balsamic Vinegar. It's a sweet, sticky delight that brings any salad to life. With a rich family history that started in Southern Italy, they say all of Lucia's foods are foods made with love and I'm sure they are but all I can say is I LOVE Lucia's.

You'll also find fresh vege, the likes of kai lan, bok choy, tofu and my favourite bean sprouts! If you like Asian can drinks, shop here for the wintermelon, soya bean and lemon barley variety. Beats having the same old Coke in your fridge. Fairly well stocked supermarket although the shopkeeper speaks limited English. A smile, nod and 'show her the mullah' will generate a smile of appreciation from this lovely shopkeeper.

The produce section is sadly small, but you can certainly find the basics (raise your hand, lemongrass). Any bottled or canned or dried stuff is well stocked, and at a much better priced than the W, the C, or the I to the A. Open til 6pm and all 7 days of the week. Certainly a plus.

If you want top shelf fruit and veg then go no further than Hyde Park Fruit on King William Road…read more These guys always have excellent produce on their shelves but be prepared because you will pay top shelf prices for their goods. Strawberries, gourmet lettuce, potatoes, pumpkin, tomatoes, bananas ... you get the idea. Like all good green grocers these days, Hyde Park Fruit also stock a selection of yoghurts, dried fruit, free range eggs and pasta sauces. Possibly the jewel in the crown of this particular green grocer is their selection of flowers. They always have a fantastic range on offer at all times of the year and their flowers are well priced. Even though there's a really good florist just a couple of doors down, I have been known to grab a less expensive and sometimes even better bunch of blooms from Hyde Park Fruit.

The fruit and vegetables are good quality. They can be a bit pricey, so the quality is important. As the shop is small, there isn't the biggest range. Because of this, don't expect to find much that isn't in season. The shop also sells great yoghurt. It sells the yoghurt shop yoghurt, which is mainly only found at the shop in the market and in Marion. This is hands down the best yoghurt in the world, trust me on this, you have to try it. They also have a small range of juices and other snacks. The staff at the shop are very friendly. You generally do not need any help when buying fruit and vegetables, but they smile and chat with you when you go in.

This Foodland is one of three that are embracing organic produce, wider range of locally sourced produce and less demanding impulse buys. I will generally source most of my shopping from farmers markets and local butchers but for my main shop for everything I will come here to get all those other daily needs. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to support a local business but I do have a tendency to pat myself on the back regularly :)

So, to hear so many people rave about Foodland means they must be doing something right. Friends that live in Norwood think they have the best Foodland. Same with those living in Mitcham. I'm a huge fan of my local at Frewville and this is my review, so I can say wholeheartedly, I think Frewville tops them all! I've been shopping here for six years and drop in two to three times a week. It had a major renovation in 2011 which has turned it from a daggy site with a great selection of produce, to a sensational, modern site with an array of quality products and a strong focus on local producers. Foodland are big supporters of South Australian products and offer a great range. The foodies I know will often shop here if they can't make it to Grote Street (or can't face the parking hassles) and I know why. I've picked up stuff here that I've never seen in a Woollies or Coles, such as Persian fairy floss or yiros meat in the freezer section. There's even an entire corner at the entrance of the store dedicated to fine foods. The small goods and cheeses available rival the Central Markets (big call, I know, but I stand by it) and there is a dedicated organic fruit and vege stand at the entrance. The staff always have a great attitude and are of all ages and give the impression they genuinely enjoy their job. With the renovation they've introduced a mini cafe at the entrance that offers espresso coffee, lunch items (rolls, wraps etc) and biscuits and cakes. There are a few tables near the checkouts and despite their odd position, there is almost always someone sitting at one of them sipping a coffee or having a bite to eat as I leave. On the odd occasion when a special is too good to forgo, I'll slip over to the nearby Woollies at Arkaba, but generally, you'll find me here, supporting a local company who supports local small business.
