    Austrian Chicken and Vegetable Soup
    Lauren H.

Excellent service - friendly, highly attentive with great communication. Ambiance didn't wow me, but it was clean and comfortable. Food was delicious. My chicken and vegetable soup tasted fresh and made from scratch. And the accompanying bread had a crunchy crust and was marshmallow like on the inside. I ordered an Aperol Spritz, but they were out of Aperol. However, the Bottlerocket Spritz was so tasty, I didn't mind. For dessert, we shared the Austrian Apple Strudel Ala Mode and it was DELICIOUS! My 2 friends both had the Minnesota Harvest Salad with Salmon and it looked so good. I would definitely come back to try more from their menu.

Austrian & America Pub in West St. Paul. The space when you walk in has a very modern pub feel. If bright due with lots of natural light. The finding area isn't real big but there is a nice length bar and a private event space as well. The service was excellent. I came in on a Saturday early afternoon and sat at the bar. The bartender was extremely friendly and prompt. I had an excellent time chatting with her. I was there for shift change and the relief bartender was equally as great. I got a burger to eat that was good. Slightly overcooked but still pretty juicy. I loved the bun. The fries were awesome! I was drinking cocktails and they were pretty good as well. Nothing too thrilling but a well made pub cocktail. My only real complaint is the parking is kinda terrible. Be prepared to park on the street and have to do a little walking.

We came for trivia on a Saturday night, which is cool that they host, but it's kind of a weird spot to come to on a Saturday night (why do you have trivia that goes til 9 when you close at 9?). Our server was mostly good, we got our orders taken fairly quickly, but it felt like we were annoying them by ordering. They also didn't give us a heads up that the kitchen closed early, so some of our table didn't get to order food. I had a salmon salad, which was pretty tasty! At $20, though, I'm not sure I'd order it again. The drinks were stiff, though, & I don't know how much they cost (I ordered a mixed drink that wasn't on the menu), but they take care of you in that regard. Overall, I may be back, but don't have any immediate plans. Their patio looks cute, so if they have brunch, I'd try it!

We had no dinner plans and wanted to find something new. This was it! What a pleasant, unexpected surprise! A beautiful and cozy restaurant. The decor is modern and well thought out, with fresh flowers on the tables. There are about 10 tables and 4 high tops that face the bar, along with bar seating. The menu is small but has a nice variety of dishes from American, seafood, Austrian and vegetarian. We skipped the appetizers and went with main courses. We chose the Chicken Schnitzel and the Herb Chicken with Portabella mushroom on Pasta. Both were very delicious! The chicken was crisp, the fries well seasoned and the side salad well dressed with a yummy vinaigrette. The pasta was Oh So Good! My husband and I almost fought over who got to eat it after I let him try a bite. The pasta was al dente, the sauce was creamy, the chicken was tender without being dry and the mushrooms were very flavorful. We ended our meal with dessert. We got the flourless cake and it was delightful! The crème anglaise was light with a hint of vanilla and the dollop of whipped cream had just the right amount of sweetness to lighten the dark chocolate of the cake. So good! Our server Mallory was friendly and attentive. She was there to fill my water glass regularly. She let us look over the menu and checked in with us without making us feel rushed or forgotten. The last fun surprise was Trivia Mafia was there. It was a fun addition to the evening. I look forward to returning to Foodsmith!

GO FIND OUT!!! You won't be disappointed! I can NEVER choose quickly, I do want to recommend the deviled eggs as your appetizer

One of the best salads I have ever had. And salad can be done wrong in so many ways but these guys put together a combination that works. I got the salad with beets and oranges with parmesan sprinkled on top. You also found nuts mixed in with the spinach which paired well. The dressing was light but was enough to commingle all the ingredients. A winner for sure.

We decided to stop here for a bite to eat and the food was fantastic. The service was great we had Cheyenne who made sure we were taking care of ans made some great recommendations. The Brussel spouts came out and the were not crunchy like I liked them but the bourbon maple glaze made me rethink my likes and dislikes. They were so good we ate them all. The nachos came out next and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The nacho fixings tasted fresh and it had the right amount of heat. The next item was the creme brulee. Well im a big on creme brulee and that makes me judge others very harshly. The creme brlulee here is very creamy and rich. The consistency was a little too soft and could of been baked longer. I did not detect any vanilla beans in it at all. The burnt sugar on top was fantastic and had that nice crunch you want when you hit it with your spoon. I have had lots of creme brulee in Minnesota and this one makes it on my list. I will need to try it again so I will be going back.

Uffda...my first dining experience out in MN in 2023 and it was a bust. There's no diversity at this restaurant, there's only one group of diners. This doesn't impact my rating, just a note for those that like to see diversity when stepping into an establishment. The ambiance was nice and our server tried really hard, we can see her clearly stressed and trying to keep it together, but there were some strange things that happened. Two stars for the odd effort, but the food was some of the worst I've had in a while. We had a small group of 5 for trivia night, the host had a lot of energy and did great. The restaurant itself was understaffed, so everything was extremely slow, I get that. My issue is that we'd ask for water, plates, and silverware and we had to ask multiple people as our food got cold until we got our own. This was a three hour meal, it should not have been. The crispy chicken sandwich was not crispy, I think it was previously frozen, it was flappy, flavorless, and almost nonexistent, it was all bun. The pub wings were more of a Dominos Buffalo sauce than Carolina hot sauce, they were not hot or crispy, they were sad, super deep in a depression. My Foodsmith salad was flavorless and had globs of cheese. A couple of off putting things happened with the staff. Another couple ordered the Foodsmith salad with medium rare steak and the server that brought it out said "here's your cow..." It's was an unappealing description and seemed judgy. Another friend ordered a second glass of wine, our server brought it and started to pour the remnants of her 1st glass into the new glass, but we stopped her....whoa. I've never seen this in my life. They need some training for sure, but I wouldn't be back because of the food, it just wasn't anything redeeming on the food front.

Had a great time today for lunch with friends on Saturday. We were looking to try something local that we hadn't tried before and we chose FoodSmith. There was only one waitress taking orders for the whole restaurant but she did a great job! We all ordered the Turkey Havarti Club with side salads and also got a basket of fries for the table, their fries are so good! The sandwiches were really good too, grilled to perfection, ample havarti, and fresh ingredients. We also ordered some mimosas, I tried the elderberry mimosa which was light and refreshing, subtly sweet. The salads also looked pretty good, so I'm excited to come back sometime and try some other offerings. Of note, brunch is only on Sundays but you can order any of the brunch cocktails any other day of the week.

Food 5/5 - This place has been in my list to try for awhile! The food was absolutely delicious! The spring rolls and teriyaki steak bites were flavorful and yummy. The wild and rice bead on the turkey harvest club was so good. Also loved that there was a mocktail list! Service 5/5 - We were here around 3:00pm on a Saturday and it was busy at all. Our waiter was extremely helpful and friendly. Ambiance 5/5 - The ambiance was a laid back bar vibe with great tunes. I could foresee parking being an issue but overfill great food and experience!

Love the concept of this place, upscale gastropub. I'll first say, we will definitely be back to try some things on the menu that piqued our interest, but didn't have room in the gullet for. I tried the crispy chicken sandwich, guys had the bacon bier burger. I love chicken sandwiches and feel compelled to try then anywhere they are on the menu. I really liked the slaw on the sandwich, but I found the chicken a bit odd. It seemed like two chicken breast strips, rather than a thigh or full breast like I'm used to. This lended to the sandwich being really sloppy. Still tasted good, but I left about a third of it behind, since it just didn't hold together all that well. Fries were really tasty. Hubs said the burger was good, but didn't love the bacon on it, it was just too greasy for him. They do trivia here on Saturday nights as well, if you're looking for a little extra fun.

Upon driving up to this restaurant there is very limited parking. There is patio seating and the indoor interior design is great. We ordered the warm pub pretzles for our 4 year old as the kids menu was not available. She loved them. Not so much the cheese dip. I ordered the grilled turkey havarti. It was definitely not a grilled turkey that was served. It was deli meat turkey. Still good, just not what I pictured from the menu description. My husband ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which he enjoyed throughly. The bathrooms are also well kept and clean. Only complaint is the water gets very hot and as far as I can tell you can not control it.
