This is my first time in Parkes and the 4hr drive took us 7 because of fog and traffic and accidents, and we were hungry fed up and car weary by the time we crawled into town at 9pm. Straight to the Raily, where the World's Biggest Chicken Parmy awaited me, I chose Spanish flavour with pepperoni and feta and olives and this thing is about the size and weight of a brick, when it landed in front of me I was so happy I could have screamed, but my mouth got real busy all of a sudden. Beers are five bucks or thereabouts, there's a diverse Friday night crowd of farmers and yokels and young pretty girls getting some pre-game in before hitting the town's only nightclub, it's a veritable cavalcade of people watching. The railway hotel was on the edge of town and of course on the railway line. It's a smallish pub but is certainly more modern and edgy than any of the other pubs in town. The staff are all young, theres funky artwork on the walls, drink coasters are all artwork, schooner glasses sponsored by local businesses, and there is something different on every night. But that aside - I came to try the parmie and it didn't disappoint! I ended up coming here twice during the week I was in Parkes. Once to try the Spanish parmey and once for the Mexican parmey. Both were massive and loaded with toppings. They're all around the $17 mark which includes your choice of any 2 sides. The sides were fries, mash, veggies, salad and some others I can't recall. The chicken parmeys are definitely the highlight of this place. $5 schooners aren't bad either! If you're in Parkes heading out to see 'The Dish' is one of those must do things. I reckon a parmey at the Railway Hotel should be second on that list!

Had their bacon and avo melt. It seemed a bit strange to me but it was pretty tasty. The bacon is served on top of a grilled avocado and cheese sandwich and it's a nice size so you won't leave hungry. And their latte is good! Yippie, cause I can see myself here loading up on some good caffeine after a rough night with the bub. Woohoo - cant wait to have breakfast here. P.s also free wifi!

They have all sorts of stuff hanging off the walls that just screams out American / blokes bar. There's a wall full of US number plates, lumberjack saws, guitars, and of course - the heads of a few dead animals. The owner / bartender Scott was really friendly and didn't care at all when I said that I prefer red wine over scotch. He has a bit of everything on the menu and aside from whiskey from all over the world they have a good cocktail menu as well. So I got a red wine and as people filtered into the bar I saw people ordering cider, beer, wine, and everything in between. So don't be put off if like me you don't drink whiskey - its a great small bar in the main street of Orange.

As it wasn't too busy I just hung out in the garden and only one part of the venue had been reserved on the night. I only tried the chorizo plate and a glass of wine as I'd already eaten down the road at Percy's. The chorizo was dressed in a mustard aioli with honey and coriander had just the right mix of sweet and spicy - definitely recommend it. The staff were happy and really helpful as well.

The venue has an array of seating areas including the cosy bar area with the open fire and magnificent bar; the outdoor garden and the extension garden that is quite open (see photo) and which has open fire pits surrounded by bench seating in the colder weather. We shared a variety of small plates and each of them was noteworthy. If it's on the menu, I find it hard to bypass a scallop, so the seared scallops on the cauliflower puree were music to my eyes and magic on my tongue! We also had the delightfully spicy buffalo wings, the sliders of the day (Cajun chook) and the prawns. They were all delicious. Sis and I had a lychee martini each, which was a perfect offset to the spice in the Cajun and the buffalo wings. B-I-L ordered a wine from the fairly extensive menu by the glass. Showcasing the local wines, naturally, this spot seems to tick a lot of boxes. I was quite surprised by the other reviews as I found the service quite sufficient on the night and the food was certainly value for $ and perfectly presented. Judging by the quantity of prestige 4WD's spinning around town, Orange is a spot for the posh weekend jaunts. Bookings are probably recommended. But please note my additional tip.

Good portion sizes for 2-4 people per share plate and a good selection of wine. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and lamb skewers!! Also can't go past the curly fries & aioli - very yummy! Couldn't tell if it was from the lamb or the chorizo - tasty enough, but would be improved if more of the gristle was trimmed out first. I've heard great things of some of the other dishes, so intend to come back when next in Orange, to give the place another try.
