I was appalled when I heard from a friend that employees at Forbidden Planet Glasgowhad customised displays for International Pride Month and then were told by management to take them all down. That's a terrible message to send when you're in the Scottish city with the biggest Pride celebrations in the country. I won't be shopping at Forbidden Planet in Glasgow again. Am I a Geek? You bet I am. THis store carries all the ephemera that you'd expect to find at a store that caters to geeks, nerds and comic book fan boys. From bobble heads to stuffed animals to collectible cards, it's all found right there. I even found a collectible figurine from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which amused me to no end. I ended up getting a few things, and am happy to say that though this store is not yet in my area, I hope it will be soon. They have one in NYC, I dont see why they won't have one in Orlando. read more

A cracking comic book shop with all sorts of geeky goodness. It has a really good selection of comics and graphic novels in association with figurines and DVD's. There's some good sci-fi in here. It's one of the few comic book stores in Glasgow where people actually buy stuff, rather than just looking around. A superhero franchise fans dream. Not for claustrophobics. read more

Forbidden Planet has been a bastion of geekdoom since the 1990s and since it has moved to the prime real-estate that is known as Buchanan Street it has been doing rather well. As I have said before, Comics are not my thing but just as I was dragged into Future Shock on Woodlands Road so too have I been hauled into Forbidden Planet during a day of inner-city wondering. So what is in this Forbidden Planet? Well, if you like any of the Marvel (Spiderman/X-men) or DC (Superman/Batman) then this is a good place to get all manner of bizarre and overpriced memorabilia. They do also have a wide selection of very cool posters. Though you might also want to go in and see if you are as lucky as I was when I saw a little boy throw a tantrum because he had to choose between a figurine of Brian from Family Guy and a WWE wrestler. Despite a previous review, they don't actually stock anything to do with Warhammer or it's ilk, and never have! Forbidden Planet's main business is comics, manga and graphic novels, for which they are quite easily the best place in Glasgow. As well as this, the shop is also great fun to visit for the huge selection of toys, models and general paraphanelia on show, most of it movie/ comic themed and ranging from giant Domo toys to Star Trek t-shirts. Currently there's a scale model of the car from Back to the Future in the window, which I don't need, and probably don't want, but find it difficult not to buy. One of my favourite shops and always worth a look. read more

I remember comic book stores. Back when I was a kid and was into comics. Mainly X-Men and a couple other Marvel titles. They were usually a bunch of bins filled with plastic bagged comic books. New stuff in the front, used stuff in the back. The most important thing about this activity was that it was mainly about the artwork and the writing. There may have been a couple collector items by the cash register, I am not sure. Forbidden Planet is weird. Yeah there are comic books along the walls (the bins are gone). But now there are hard cover collections, fiction written about video games, and figurines. Lots of figurines. Figurines are dolls. For Men. Grown Men. This completely eludes me. After you have been on this planet for over 20 years - action figures are dolls. Your Action Man was a doll that shot things. Star Wars Figures are dolls that slice people with lightsabres. Play/display/collect your dolls - As long as you admit that and are happy with it. Forbidden planet is filled half with books and the other half with dolls and there were no kids in there to buy them. I still do not understand. By the way, if you want to remain celibate for a very long time - get the posters in the back and put them up on your bedroom wall. Best prophylactic on the market. read more

Probably Glasgow's best-known comic book shop, Forbiden Planet is located slap-bang in the middle of Buchanan Street. A great place to shop for annuals, graphic novels, and every coming book-related piece of merchandise under the sun. They stock all sorts of film memorabilia, posters, and novelty items, too. I'm not sure how good their weekly comic book selection is - probably good for the light user but perhaps not so much for the more niche interests. It's one of those stores that's always positively swarming. I find myself in there quite often, wondering what on earth I was searching for in the first place. It certainly has a strong appeal, and is great for picking up some nerdy gifts. read more

Forbidden Planet is definitely one of my top five places in Glasgow and always worth a pay day visit! Always up to date with the comics from the US, stock Marvel and DC as well as obscure indies. Great selection of graphic novels too from all ages of comics and a decent collection of Manga also. If like me, you are an adult who doesn't quite want to grow up, or in fact a child with pocket money, they have awesome toys and collectibles too!! It is ideal for picking up quirky presents for birthdays and Christmas. The staff are proper comic book people and will happily chat to you about various story arcs and upcoming events. Be warned though, if you go in on pay day, you will most likely spend way more than you really should. I have heard that prices are above average compared to other places in Glasgow but I doubt Forbidden Planet's selection can be matched. read more

Ok i will firstly say that the shop is exonorated from all of this as this review is solely based on my online experience! Ordered a card set from these guys, ohh about 2 weeks ago. Order placement was easy, finding what i wanted was easy and it is a generally well set up webpage. After my order however is where it goes south. Waited about a week, thought this was a little long so i checked online and saw that they only use 2nd hand post (seriously for a company to use this just strikes me as cheap!?) . Secondly my order had went out of stock which was annoying as i had recieved no warning on the website about this ie low stock or high demand, no email or call saying it would be back in stock soon or anything of the like. Now as i love the shop and have had many great transactions there i gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited another 3 days. Eventually got peeved off and sent an email to them asking if/when it was going to be back in stock soon as i could buy this from pretty much any other retailer. Got no reply back but funnily enough the day after the item was despatched. This is just really bad customer service not to acknowledge any email or reassure your customer when its a readily availiable item. So another further 4 days pass and eventually i recieve my item. A full two weeks to send something which i could have walked to the shop and grabbed in 1 or went to another company and got within 3. Do not shop online believing it is like the shop, you wil be sorely dissapointed if my experience is anything to go by and i certainly wont be shopping with them again. read more

Back in my home town the only place I could get my weekly comic fix was a small booth in the local market, and I always dreamed that one day I could live somewhere with it's very own Forbidden Planet. It doesn't disappoint. An excellent selection of comic books, trades, movies, books, toys. I even noticed some Twilight branded umbrellas today. Umbrellas! I presume these were made specifically for the Twilight fangirls, something to shield them from the perennial sad cartoon cloud that follows them everywhere they go. Kidding! Anyway, I do have one complaint, and it's not really the shop's fault, but this place gets really busy. They have a lot of stuff in here and I want to kick back and browse but I always feel like I'm in somebodies way :( Man, maybe I should get my own Twilight umbrella. read more

Many, many moons ago, I worked here. OK, that's maybe an overstatement... I was *employed* here. I doubt anyone that works there now will remember me, that's how much of an impression I made. Since I left, I've popped back in on a regular basis, as it's a cracking place to lose yourself, or the odd hour or two as you browse the shelves. Recently, I noted that the comics moved from one side of the shop to the other; other than the stock (and obviously, the staff) that's about as big a change as there seems to have been. If you're looking for your fill of comics or sci-fi books, I would say that FP is probably as good as it gets in Glasgow. There are other comic shops, but I don't recall them having as big a range of books. The toys and collectables and shirts are here too, and a pretty good selection of them. I would say that I would perhaps price check with other places first; I was looking for a specific item as a present recently, and saw it in here, priced at £8 higher than another Glasgow "Geek" store, on a £30 item, that's a hefty difference. Fair made me go "Boo!" (HINTHINTHINT) Forbidden Planet has years of history to it, and can claim to have been a trend setter in the realms of comics and even comic writers, and it's definitely worth a visit, even just to check up on the latest happenings in the comic world. Just... check the prices before you but. That's the only downside. read more

Much like my FP Edinburgh review, this store offers all the same bells and whistles. You can get a tonne of merchandise and almost any comic you can imagine, even ones you could never imagine. Unfortunately there are a few things that let this shop down and make it a lesser partner to the Edinburgh branch.. Coming from Glasgow and being a bit of an dork when I was younger, I used to love spending all my time between FP Glasgow and A1 Comics, all I can remember is any time I was trying to have a browse at the newest comics, I would be getting bumped in to from most angles imaginable. The shop is just so small that if there are any more than 20 people inside then it's almost impossible to move freely without apologising constantly. Other than the scarily small size of the shop, I do remember that the service I received was tainted with elitism whenever I would ask questions, as if I should know what the answers to the questions I was asking were. I'd hate to class this as a permanent way of service for the FP Glasgow staff as it has only happened a few times and maybe they were having bad days. Even if it was a bad day, bad moods should usually be left at the staff door, that's my rule anyway. read more

I love Forbidden Planet, it's geek-tastic! It's particularly good for presents, especially if you know as many squares as I do. They have a huge selection of graphic novels, comics and collectors books. They also stock a huge amount of figures from comics and cult films. Recently I've noticed they have a huge range of Hello Kitty products which are all really cute. Best of all though... they stock Domo products. Domo paper, Domo dolls, Domo stationary... Domo everything! They even have a huge Domo in the window, so five stars from me! read more

Just two little words required to discribe this place, Flippin Awesome. If your in any way interested in comic books, sci fi stuff or cult film memorabilia, then Forbidden Planet is the place for you. Stacked to the gunnel's with comics, figures, posters...etc, etc, this really is the place for any gear form this genre. Ok, so its usually packed with wee guys dressed in black looking like there body may never have felt the nourishment that vitamin d provides, or there older slightly podgyer self's in 20 years wearing goatees, old navy jackets and a questioning "whats this all about...you know...life??" look on their faces.....shit, that's me. But if you can manage to ignore these chaps and just have a wander, browse and flick through some of the gear, you'll wonder where the time fly's to........ Word of warning....Don't ask if they have any Jar Jar Binks dolls. read more

I have been told that Forbidden Planet smells of sweat but don't let that put you off, they have quite a good range of comics, books and other assorted merchandise all with a sci-fi/fantasy/comic flavour. A few years ago they converted the nook at the back of the shop from selling second hand comics to more new merchandise and books. read more

This shop is awesome, and all the more amazing it is right in the centre of the city. I know it is a chain, but the staff are great, very helpful and friendly. Sometimes in places like this you feel the shop is more for the staff and their friends than for Joe Public - not so here. They are very knowledgeable, and can help you out with good advice and recommendations. There is a lot of stock, and some seems a bit pricey, but if you are looking for something different for someone with culty/sci fi taste then this is the ideal spot. read more

Suprisingly wee store for such a prime city centre location. If you go on a Saturday be prepared to hold your breath and battle to get to what you want. Good selection of stock though and the staff are very friendly and helpful (if you can manage to get hold of one amidst the throng). The staff are excellent and know their geeky stuff, which isnt a bad thing. Neds tend to avoid it as well!! Watch out for great bargains. I have to say after seeing other forbidden planet stores i am now disappointed with this one-far too small!!!. The staff are always nice and i can usually get what i am looking for . The only problem is it is quite cramped but haveing been in most forbidden planet stores this seems quite normal. The store is also near the train station which is good as i always buy far too much when i go in here so at least i dont have far to carry it. read more

Not nearly as big as some of the other forbidden planets out there, but through some sort of Tardis like ability, it feels like all the stock of the larger stores is still on offer. Its a much more efficient type of shopping experience coming here, which is nice as finding something specific is remarkably easy. The staff seem to be far less surly then the London branches, which makes asking for advice much more pleasant. read more

This store is brilliant! There is a fantastic selection of Full Comic Books, little comics, stuff you have never heard of, comic series, merch and even life-size cardboard cut-outs. It is brilliant to discover something new or get gifts for your friends who are into it. Though it's a little cramped it's totally worth it to get just a look round. read more

I shop here all the time, probably too much in fact. They have great selection of comic books, figures, games etc... everything a geeky guy like myself could ask for. Unfortunately, this particular store is let down by the attitude of the two managers / senior (age and position) men in the store. They are absolutely atrocious in the way they speak to and treat their customers. One instance, the older, tall man with the short hair practically shoved me out of the way because I dared to stand in front of a shelf, trying to find a comic, when he was taking inventory. I should point out that he was nowhere near it when I originally walked up. Secondly, I asked a question about a stock item and got screamed at "I have no idea, you'll just have to check back until it's in!!!" It's like these two manager-types begrudge you actually using their store. It's a real shame because the other staff members are actually really nice and helpful, and they're let down by the two who seem to hate all human life. Will I continue to shop here? Yes. Will I do everything to can to avoid and not get served by the two horrible guys? Absolutely yes. read more

I was a Forbidden Planet regular a few years ago. They cater for all things comic book and science-fiction. The shop is very small, with two aisles, and a wee alcovy bit at the back, but the amount of stock (and customers) they can cram into the space is mind-blowing. The left hand wall is floor to ceiling comics. The right hand wall has books and magazines, and all manner of collectibles are displayed on the shelving up the centre. There is also a huge collectable card are in the alcove bit, and the window and behind the till tends to have the eye-catching and unusual items. The staff are very friendly, and extremely knowlegeable. It may be a chain, but this definitely feels like a wee independant store. read more

Best comicbook store in Glasgow, the shop is tiny so be prepared to get nudged and pushed on a busy day but man i could just wonder round and round in there all day, they have a nice selection on manga and anything they dont have you can order in.
