This place was pretty good for lunch. Good food, great service, and nice atmosphere. We enjoyed our meal here, but it didn't really live up to all the hype. I enjoyed my fish special, but my mother in law was not a fan on hers. My father-in-law really liked his seafood chowder, and my husband liked his duck salad. The cold Brewed coffee was great too. The service was excellent - very friendly and warm. They were happy to replace my mother-in-law's coffee when she ordered the wrong one by accident. The waitress also heard us talking about our upcoming visit to Kaikoura and gave us some helpful advice. They also had free wifi and gave our whole family access codes, which we really appreciated! I stopped here in the early evening, it's a nicely positioned wine and tapas bar in the Main Street. There were only two tables seated, so not too busy. We ordered a selection of tapas, which ended up being fairly average. The spring rolls arrived as one large spring roll, deep fried. The beetroot and haloumi salad was the best of the four dishes. Popped in here for tapas & a nice wine. We enjoyed it. Friendly, competent service, good food & a fairly decent wine list. The only slight disappointment was the obvious Arnotts (or similar brand) crackers on the cheese platter & a very Christmassy relish. Excellent meal. Karry was a great hostess. Highly recommend this to anyone who is visiting Nelson. We had a wonderful Christmas Eve meal.

We had a great meal here on Good Friday. Not every restaurant was open, due to the holiday, but we were glad Ford's was! I had the salmon with crab ravioli dinner, which was excellent! Hub had the chefs's special, which was a steak with prosciutto wrapped shrimp, which was also delicious. I topped it off with a wonderful orange and rosemary creme brûlée that came with biscotti....yum! Hub had a chocolate dessert that (he was warned!) was good, but very rich.....too rich, but he managed to eat it all! Excellent wine as well. Staff was great and attentive. Food is very average for the price that is paid.$15 for breads and dips, bread was a bread roll from the supermarket heated up in the microwave, so chewy and tasteless. Had the lamb main, this was chewy and lacked flavour. My partner had the pork belly which he said was OK. Overall very bad food for the price, wouldn't come back. read more

Found Ford's visiting from the states. A warm and welcoming place with lovely staff, great food, and local wines. The Chicken Liver Parfait was a particular treat as was the Roast Beetroot Salad. Kudos to the chef! read more
