Well worth making the trip out to Norham for, Meat is not the cheapest, but is the best with a great range to choose from. Great pies too.

I visited on Burns' night and they were advertising homemade haggis too. On the opposite side of the shop there is a sandwich counter which provides breakfast rolls with bacon, sausage etc. There's a good range of lunchtime sandwiches and also a hot carvery, pies, pasties and soups. They also sell a range of greengrocery items including fruit, veg, chutneys and dried fruits. To top the lot they also sell home made ready meals and provide outside catering too! Lovely produce and well worth a visit.

I've bought an amazing lamb rack, steaks, sausages and short ribs from here. All of which have been outstanding. Firstly, the sausages. Crombie's are famous for them! And they are delicious. Well worth the trip just to stock up on sausages. Everything else, the quality of the meet has been great. I've recently purchased a sous vide machine so anything that can be slow cooked for hours is going from Crombie's butcher straight into my machine for hours on end. One thing, it's expensive compared to what you'd get from the grocery stores. I've found the quality to be way better but be warned- it might put a dent in your wallet. Great selection of marinades, ready to cook pies and other savoury pastries, and service is always friendly and helpful.

If you mention this place to any self respecting Edinburgh carnivore, they should acknowledge you with a contented sigh ("ahhhh, Crombie's") and a wistful look in their eye. Their sausages are widely regarded as amongst the best in the UK and they supply lots of local restaurants with them to keep the punters happy. There are many different varieties to choose from and they range from the traditional (pork, chipolatas, Scotch beef) to the exotic (boar, pork and stilton is an inspired and tasty combination). Asides from sausages, they do the usual butcher cuts of meat (steaks, lamb etc) and meals for you to heat at home if you can't be bothered cooking. Most of the meat is locally sourced and everything is incredibly good quality. It's just a shame that they close at 5.30pm, far too early for those of us with office jobs.
Plenty of sausages to choose from.

As the Qype user said, Dunbar's local butcher has the best steak pie that you will ever eat. The…read moremeat is tender and juicy, the gravy inside is a nice surprise and the pastry makes a nice finish! It is especially good if served up with mashed potatoes and peas. The shop itself is very clean and is in a central location, at the junction connecting the High Street with West Port. The staff inside are friendly enough and the meat that is on sale is of very good quality. Lately the shop has been a bit sparse but I suppose that it is summer, the time when Dunbar is especially busy with families on holiday buying dinner. The extra custom is good for business but it means that I can't get my hands on a steak pie as they have been sold out for all of this week! You should get a pie, sausages and some chicken and you will have a nice meat feast! It is also pretty reasonably priced as well with an upper price limit of about £15.

It's not the cheapest of places to buy your meat, but I think even Scrooge would spend a few quid here every new and then. Once inside the shop the range on offer is vast and all very tempting. The staff will generally ask you what you want, but don't feel you have to refrain from browsing they won't rush you with your order so take your time to find what you want. Whilst many of the goods aren't that cheap the entry level goods here are still of very high quality and unless you really want to treat your taste buds should suffice. All in, this is a high end butchers that really delivers on quality.
