Today, I was passing by Forest City Computers, and realized that I didn't left a review to this place for my disappointing experience on July 26, 2019. I brought my MacBook that needed its motherboard to be replaced. They told me they can do that and I left it with them. I took it back in 2 days and realized that they put a used motherboard from an older version MacBook. I immediately called them and asked why they did so. They told me that it was a communication error, and apologized, and repaired my old motherboard instead and put it back. However, if I was not knowledgeable enough to check that, they would have gone away with it, and I would get conned. Be very very cautious with this establishment. read more

Commissioned Forest City Computers to do a custom PC build several years ago to get the best CPU mileage out of my music/audio software. This story is long but I'll make it short - after *going back in* multiple times, paying for further parts and service even after the warranty had run out I had a computer that was worse than the laptop I was working on before. Even without the software installed my computer will not operate for more than about 5-6 hours without shutting everything off in the middle of a project and just running the fan indefinitely. I don't know if it's malice or ignorance on their part, but I wish I had never visited this business. *Follow up*: I'm happy to tell you, I went to Staples and spent another pretty penny on a tiny portable laptop that runs super smooth and it's been flawless for about the last year. I'm all for the small businesses, but in this case I'm actually very sad to say that Forest City Computers may take advantage of you if you aren't already a discerning expert on computers. I wrote this a while later looking back and realizing how badly I got scammed, they are quite nice there and I walked away every time feeling like they tried their darn'dest to help, but in the end... Went in to this store today in search for ssd adapter to restore the os on my friend's Mac which had been stuck in boot loop. With an exam in 4 days there was no way to order the adapter for the ssd online and we had to search for it locally. Going into the store whoever was working there at the time tried to take advantage of us assuming that because we were students we had no idea what we were doing. 1. He stated that the SSD had water damage and had to be replaced (800 dollar fix) (it WAS NOT WATER DAMAGED, it was in boot loop from cancelling a firmware install) 2. He said he would charge us 150 dollars just to extract the files (this process involves a 20 dollar adapter from amazon... also raises another question as to how he would you even extract the files if per say the SSD was water damaged?) This store is a dilemma in itself, Do not go, Highly recommend any other store but here. Especially if you are in a rush to get back to your workflow. These people will try to take advantage of you STAY AWAY. In the end fixed it myself, it took only a fresh install of the OS, a couple youtube videos and 2 hours of install time, all files are present and working, no further issues- Cost 0$ Mind you, this review is not biased, we checked 4 other stores the same day and every single person gave us useful advice and made an effort to help, these guys just want your money. read more

It's that time of year, the snow is melting, the birds are singing you are wondering what to do with that tax return you are going to get when BAM!! You are struck with it. The Computer Crashing Blues. For us that happened this past Friday and going into busy weekends repair shops tend to be booked up or wanting to charge you an arm & a leg.. if not more body parts to even take a look at the problem. We were lucky enough to get hold of Forest City Computer Repairs who kindly offered to come pick up our beast of a machine. (Alienware Aurora's are giants! And heavy as crud!) They specialize in same day laptop service and work with both PC's and Macs. This not being a laptop we didn't hold much hope we'd hear anything until the next week. But they were able to figure out the issue Saturday and worked hard to finish it up (since they were closed Sunday). Unfortunately the problem was a little bit bigger than expected and it would need to carry on after close but they assured us Monday we'd have our baby back and we did! Given the amount of time they had to spend on it and installing of new SSD hard drive, operating system and all the crazy driver set ups alienware does we were shocked at how low the price was. To be honest I'd even pay someone just to do that every time because headache and bandwidth...eep! Both father & son of the company worked with us and both were amazingly honest about timelines & prices, even rounding down the price in some cases, which is refreshing when it comes to Comp fixes (or at least my experiences with them). They didn't even charge us for pick up & delivery because as they put it 'you are just around the corner!' They will definitely get my business in the future. I'll happily review this business and add it in so fellow London Yelpers! will know of a good place to get their repairs taken care of. read more

Why would anyone go to a computer store, whose website is substandard and does not function properly? That is like taking your car to a mechanic who does not know how to check the oil. read more

I took two laptops in, one to have the hard drive replaced and both to be moved up to Windows 10. The young guy was great and we even bought another laptop off of them. When I picked up my laptops the older fellow was working (I think he may be the owner). One had 10 installed but in the second they put in Windows 7, not 10. I asked why they had put in 7 when I was told it could move up to 10 and that is what I paid for. He said 7 was fine and works but I mentioned that it was not going to be supported. He was very insistent that 7 was good enough and would be supported for years but I got the very strong feeling he thought the young guy didn't charge enough and he was making it up by giving me a 7 he may have taken from another computer. The laptop has not worked properly since and yep, Windows 7 is not being supported. What really aggravated me is they did not tell me the Windows 10 on the computer I bought plus the one I got installed are not real Windows 10. Now I have to live with the Windows 10 needs to be registered always showing on my screens. I felt cheated by them with all three laptops. I will never go back. read more

Very disappointed I took in my computer and was told i needed a new hard drive and keyboard that would cost $400 when taking it home to decided wether to go ahead or not I tested my hard drive in a separate mac it worked... Without further investigation this led me to opt out of going with ForestCity repairs... Be careful when taking it in as I probably looked to them as a naive 20 year old who knows nothing about computers that they could grab an extra few hundred from, i'm just a university student looking for some help as I had a midterm the next day and running on a tight budget... Just to inform everyone he replied to my comment on Google reviews saying "Thank you for the review. It sound like your pretty tech savvy, you claim you put your hard drive into another machine after we diagnosed it..Im just curious why you wouldn't have done that before bringing it in...This is why I'm labeling this as a FAKE REVIEW! You claim you know nothing about computers, but you knew how to test your hard drive, let alone take it out of your macbook and put it into another laptop?? our reputation speaks for itself. I AM a real person I DO attend Western University my FULL name is Gabriella for those who don't know Gabi is typically short for this First of all it doesnt take a computer technician to unscrew approx 10 screws to access the inner hard drive, and with a pair of glasses tools this is possible for anyone as long as you have another mac to test your hard drive... Also with my sister's boyfriend on the London Volunteer Robotics team after winning the world championship in his highschool glory days who managed to advise me as well along with a couple youtube videos. I came to Forest City in a panic for a quick fix since I DO NOT HAVE ANY EXTRA PARTS, and as stated didnt have time to order new pieces with my midterm the next day. Very disappointing that you would reply to a review in such an angry manner instead of sympathizing the situation for you lost customers... hope everyone sees this before bringing it there ... the computer technicians name is AL if youre wondering And to update i took my computer to apple where they ran a free diagnostic and ONLY the power button is broken s my $400 fix according to Al turned into a $30 fix! Thank You for trying to take advantage of me in a vulnerable situation! Don't risk going here unless you have extra money to burn to let them do the same to you.
