The Monon Community Center is amazing in so many ways. I love the variety of the gym equipment available, even though I mostly only use the ellipticals. I love the knowledgeable instructors who teach the yoga classes; some of these people have had such an impact in my life. I love the friendly people behind the counter who are supremely helpful and kind every day. This is a peaceful and clean and welcoming gym for everyone. It's a play to get healthy and stay healthy physically and mentally.

This is a 37-acre park (it feels bigger, but that's according to the Carmel Parks website). I think the reason it feels bigger is that it better utilizes its space over a park like the nearby Hazel Landing. Founders Park has a large shelter, restroom facility, open sports fields (there were kids playing soccer while I was there), walking trails, and a very cool playground that is nature-inspired - swings, a sandbox, climbing structures, and more. Founders Park also has native prairie, wetlands, and a pond. Wilfong Pavilion is a neat facility with a capacity in its main room of 99 people. It also has beautiful views. Founders Park has had multiple upgrades recently including repair of its retaining wall, new fencing, an improved parking lot, and added rubber safety surfacing with the playground. I definitely see this as a very family friendly park. There's a seasonal drinking fountain, fishing, trails, a bike rack, and a seasonal foot wash station that makes me wish I had feet. Carmel is typically good about accessibility and that's definitely evident here. The bathroom had a nice, larger stall with grab rails. I would definitely return and I would definitely consider renting Wilfong Pavilion myself as it has accessible parking and appropriate curb cuts.

There is also 2 very nice full basketball courts. The park also touts a large sledding hill and handball court. The sled hill is huge and is located behind the play area. The handball area is on the backside of tennis courts. You will find 4 picnic shelters with picnic tables under them here and an awesome bathroom facility co located with the large shelter. Near the front of the park next to one of the shelters are 3 very nice and well maintained sets of corn hole boards. They are very impressive. The park has a fenced in splash pad that looks pretty cool. They have benches around the perimeter for parents to sit and watch the littles. In the warmer months it is open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. The center piece of the park is it playground area. It is lined with rubber matting and turf. It also has shade awnings and some new age equipment. There is a bank of swings that has a traditional swing, a toddler swing, and an expression swing. There are a couple of saucer swings, a universal carousel, a bunch of net climbers, a couple of slides, a 4-square course, a see-saw, some percussion instruments, and a whirl and twirl. I must say, the equipment looks straight out of an Ikea catalog. There are a few benches in this area for parents to sit and watch their kids. The park's paved fitness/jogging trail is awesome. It is well paved and has dog poop stations placed along the route. There is a huge parking lot for the park and they have even added a little bridge that connects the back parking spots with the park, crossing over a little prairie area. In addition to all that, the park has a few green space pockets that are suitable for playing catch, a pick up football game, a soccer match, flying a kite or other similar activities. The park is one of the nicer ones that I have visited and I like that the play are does not have dirt or mud. It is very well maintained and in good shape. I hope to make it back to this park when the splash pad is operational and get the full experience.

There are many many sensory and musical structures for learning. This is the nicest playground I have ever visited - hands down. My granddaughter did not want to leave. The playground is about two years old and is kept immaculate by the park service. There is a soft mat under all structures incase the kids fall. There is parking for about a hundred cars, but we were here alone today in the early morning. The facilities are open dawn til dusk. All facilities are totally accessible and stroller friendly. There are swings designed for special needs visitors. There are structures for all ages groups. A number of canopies are arranged across the structures to provide shade. There are awesome unisex and family restroom facilities and four picnic pavilions. There are plenty of benches surrounding the park for parents to relax. There are also plenty of strategically place trash receptacles. Courts and pavilions appear to be first come first serve. There is a nice sidewalk-running path around the park with amenities for dog clean up. Covid guidelines are posted and the park is smoke free. We will be regulars. Well worth the trip.

For a town of 1,600 people, Daleville's Town Hall Park is way more awesome than I could have ever…read moreimagined! The families in this cute town are super lucky to have such a great park with an amazing and large playground, a fantastic splash pad, a snack bar that sells snow cones in the summer, a train to play on, an amphitheater, a dog park, and even a cemetery! (Although, I wouldn't add the cemetery to the list of "lucky" attributes -- I just think it's interesting that there is a cemetery and a quiet space away from the playground at which to sit and reflect.) My children and I have been to a lot of playgrounds -- a lot. This is probably one of the best playgrounds I've seen in a while, and certainly the best playground in the area. It's so large that I was having a hard time taking a good photo of the whole thing. It's just so massive and sprawling. The playground is separated into an area for young kids under 5, and then an area for older kids. The toddler/younger kid area has pint-sized playground equipment, swings, a huge cement slide, a merry-go-round, a teeter totter and lots of space to run around. The older kid area is the perfect place to play hide and seek. There is just so many nooks and hiding places in the gigantic playground structure. There are bridges, ropes to climb, slides, stairs, rocks -- I can't even describe it well. Just look at my photos and you'll see how great it is. The playgrounds are outfitted with Astroturf, so the ground is nice and soft. The splash pad, which was turned off for the season when we were there, looks like it would be lots of fun. We'll have to come back in the summer and check it out. The splash pad is right next to the snack bar, which sells typical snack bar food (hot dogs, Uncrustables, nachos) as well as snow cones with dozens syrup flavors. There are tables all around the splash pad, so you can pick a table and see your kid play in the water. And best of all: There are big umbrellas around the splash pad, so there's shade! Off to the side is a big shaded atrium with picnic tables, and that's where the little train is. Kids can climb in and pretend they're train conductors and whatnot. As my kids were in the train, a real train came blasting by -- the park is close to the train tracks -- which lended a sense of realism to the whole thing. This park is a short three-minute walk to Dunn-Right, which sells great loose meat sandwiches, hot dogs and ice cream. You can really stay in this area of Daleville for hours.

Some of the picnics tables are falling apart, there is trash everywhere, the parking lot has huge pot holes, and one pavilion looks like it was the set of one of the Hangover movies. This park is one of the worst maintained that I have seen. The grass is cut, but that is about it. The park has a huge parking area, divided between a couple of lots. There are some basket ball goals in an area, but are set up in an odd arrangement that do not allow full court. There is a playground area there. It is lined with wood chips and has the older style swings, and some toddler swings. There is also two jungle gyms and a couple of slides. The playground is accesible, but the equipment is aged. The park also has a decent restroom facility, a disc golf course, and a fitness area. There are also 3 covered pavilions with picnic tables and grills that you can rent. The pavilions, however, are trashed. They are full of garbage and just plain nasty. The bright spots of the park are the aquatic center, the huge grassy fields, and the walking/jogging trail. The fields can be used for soccer, playing catch, flag football, flying a kite, or just throwing a blanket down and relaxing. There was a lot of people walking on the trail while I was there. The trail is pretty long and goes around the park in a circle. This park was in bad shape and in need of some serious help. Outside of the trail and field I do not see much utility for the park. This park has a lot of potential and if the park's issues are corrected then it would be a great place to visit. As it is now, the park is mehhhh, and I would probably visit another park, even if it was a bit further.

I'm always intrigued by the parks that seem to get the most reviews. While some Indy Parks…read morelocations seem to get ignored, we occasionally get a park like Juan Solomon Park on the northwest side of Indy with 10 reviews. The park was acquired in 1971. It's a 41-acre park. I love learning how parks get their names - and Juan Solomon is named after Juan Solomon (I bet you figured that out, eh). Solomon was very active in Indy's African-American community and served as director of the Community Service Council, Indianapolis Urban League, and was on the board of the Indianapolis Department of Parks and recreation. He worked for Eli Lilly for 32 years and led the Mayor's Task Force on Employment. The park is one of Indy's parks that really has some cool features including a covered sheltered, soccer fields, renovated playground equipment, tennis courts, and wooded trails great for nature walks. There's a .8 mile loop. Crooked Creek runs through the center of the park. This is a park with public restrooms and there's an indoor facility with space for rent and a very cool sod roof. Interestingly, there's also a water treatment facility here. Parking is abundant here. While Solomon Park was developed in 1971, it actually didn't become Solomon Park until 1973. Solomon also lived in this neighborhood (across from the park). As I noted, you can book community room rentals. I know on weekends it's $80 an hour with a three-hour minimum (paid upfront). There are flushing restrooms connected to the building (though they are also open to the public). Capacity is 75 people (no kitchen on site). You can rent the shelter for $85/day with a capacity of 40-50. I used to live in this area. I don't get to Juan Solomon as much as I used to, however, I still stop in when I'm on this side of town or if I arrive on this side of town early for a meeting. While part of me thinks this should be a destination park, it even offers pretty darn good accessibility with the playground, I still think it's not quite a 5-star park as it's not always kept up really well and I'll be honest and say I think the community room rental is a bit steep for a public park. That said, there's much to love here and this park serves the Crooked Creek area quite well. It's not a destination park, however, it's definitely a popular park for this area.

The thing that caught my eye the most was the beautiful building with a living roof and the trails surround the park. They have a large playscape on a padded floor, tennis courts and a soccer field. It felt like everything could use a little TLC and they are struggling to keep up with trash overflow that seemed to litter the parking lot, etc. (most likely to blame from the visitors not picking up after themselves) Overall, great bones but could use a little loving.

This park went through a facelift that was completed in May 2023, and it now includes a cool splash pad, a modern playground, picnic shelter and other amenities. I love a new playground, and I love when the city invests in parks, because it means it is investing in families. My only beef is that this playground has zero shade, unless you're lucky enough to be sitting in the shaded picnic shelter. When we visited, it was a bright, sunny day, and not only was there no shade for the parents and caregivers to stand under, but the playground equipment was hot to the touch, and my children -- who will typically ignore things like hot monkey bars in the name of fun -- gave up on playing after a short while because the bars were just too hot on their hands. It's a shame, because the playground equipment looked super fun. So maybe this is a playground to visit on cooler days. This park is located right on the Monon Trail, so you can see people running as you're playing at the park. It's just south of a great place to get coffee (Provider), so if you need a little pick-me-up before you watch your children play on the playground, you know where to go.
