One time I was looking for plain old candles for a cake and I couldnt find anything. They only had unicorn shaped ones on toothpicks or numbered candles. Today I went in and I thought maybe they were one of the ones closing since the company went backrupt because when you walk in there was one isle of halloween skeletons, and lots of empty shelves which normally had items on them. The shelves along the wall and the ones in the middle were empty. Maybe there were waiting for more halloween stuff to come in. They only had some camping themed stuff, and a lot of tiki stuff. Also two isles of 4th of july things that I don't think were discounted and it's july 24th. I often look at the pez, but they normally have the same inventory. They have quite a selection of themed party supplies for kids which is nice and by color. I hope they get more inventory because it's slim pickings right now. Also, they never have anyone at the front cashiers checking out, ive always had to akwardly stand at the balloon counter and wait for someone to be available there to ring me out.

I was happy to discover that "Macbeth" by Giuseppe Verdi was being performed. The sets were modest, yet effective. The talent and chorus seemed as though it needed to be warmed up, like auto starts in cold weather to get things all nice and toasty. During the second half of the performance, voices were bolder, more full and confident. Most rewarding was soprano Brenda Harris playing Lady Macbeth. She literally stole the show with her consistent strength and conviction. She outshined all talent on that stage. The weakest talent, I thought, was the female chorus members playing the witches ("Double, double toil and trouble"). No amount of jazz hands or spooky arm movements could save their weak resolve. Overall a rewarding performance that defiantly made me appreciate the importance and influence that the performing arts provide a community. Long live Anchorage Opera and may it survive another 50 years of artistic expression.

She knew her stuff and opened a changing room for me and gave me my space to try stuff on without questioning my every move. Shortly after my order was confirmed and charged, I got a phone call from the store saying and I quote "When you buy online, we don't make any money, so I am cancelling your order so you can give us money." I am pretty sure that his goes against corporate policy. When my husband went into the store to pick up what I had ordered, the guy at the counter was acting dumb saying how what I ordered was "out of stock" online but they have it in store so he can pay for it to him directly. If it was out of stock online they would not have allowed me to place the order. A truly shoddy way to do business and super dishonest, I can't stand it. Needless to say, I will be following up with corporate and never doing business with this or the other location in Anchorage again.

The worst customer service I've experienced…read more My daughter purchased a $20 "mystery bun" squishy toy -- already extremely overpriced! As we were leaving the store, she noticed glitter leaking out of it. Within about five minutes of normal use (which, considering it's a squishy toy, means squeezing it), the item completely split open and glitter went everywhere. I initially sent my daughter back into the store on her own to return it. The owner refused, claiming he saw her "put her nail into it." She doesn't even have nails -- she was simply showing him where the toy had cracked open. I then went in, and he still refused to return and refund. He stated that once items leave the store, he won't warranty the item, despite the fact that this happened literally minutes after purchasing. Instead, he continued insisting my daughter somehow caused the damage with her nail. She is 14, so not a small child tearing things up. Needless to say, I will never shop there again. Poor-quality products, overpriced merchandise, and terrible customer service. Rather than standing behind the items he sells, the owner seemed determined to come up with any excuse possible to avoid refunding $20. What a joke!

Its essentially an annual craft fair that is part of the Fur Rondy in late February/March. If you're planning to visit Alaska for the first time and you are looking for something uniquely Alaskan, plan your trip to coincide with the Fur Rondy so you don't miss out on this once a year event. And bring lots and lots of cash! (Some vendors do accept credit cards, but not many.) Every year I could kick myself for not squirreling away more money so I could buy something really amazing. This year I missed out on a one-of-a-kind spotted seal and polar bear purse that made me want to weep. For $550 it makes Coach look like a wet paper bag. I also spied a one of a kind pair of spotted seal boots, also in the 500 dollar range, with a pile so deep and soft that I'm sure I would have had a footgasm every time I put them on if I could have afforded them. My sweetie was drooling over Aleut fisherman carvings of unparalleled craftsmanship. We also saw paintings and bronze statues that also made us regret not having put money aside this year. We did spring for some handmade beaded jewlery that incorporated Alaskan abalone, and porcupine quills and claws. I'm proud to wear jewlery that helps support our native crafts people and ensures that all parts of animals that are hunted are both consumed and perserved as art. Native peoples waste nothing of the animal and make some really amazing practical items as well as wearable art. I really enjoy the craft fair because you meet peoples from all over Alaska. The craft fair is also something of a social gathering. Many of the elders love to tell you their stories while you shop, so plan to stay a while and enjoy hearing stories you aren't likely to forget. Items you're likely to find at the craft fair and price ranges: beaded jewlery- $10-$500 fur items and pelts- $100 to the thousands... walrus ivory carvings and jewlery- $50 to the thousands... paintings and prints- $25- $1000 crocheted items- $10-$100 silver, gold, bronze, copper jewlery- $50-$600 winter & summer parky's- $500-$1000 hair adornments (beaded, shells, fur, etc)- $10-$300 handmade soaps/lotions- $3-$30 and much more....!
