I have now stayed here the last 3 visits to Chicago. The prices are Very reasonable and it's completely centrally located. You can literally walk anywhere. The first time I was here the month of August and I had the Most amazing view.. The silver coffee bean & the lake and boats. It really was So beautiful! and this last time I stayed a long weekend. Every one that works here is Kind, friendly, Professional and truly cares that your stay here is safe and enjoyable. There are always cleaning staff everywhere. It is in an Old office building which is so grand and beautiful. I remember it as a little girl fondly. There is a nice coffee shop down stairs and 24 hour security. Starbucks and Dunkin donuts are within feet of the front door. You can also Rent one of there apartments. Studio, 1 or 2 bedroom they are great layouts, High ceilings and very reasonably priced. Every thing included. Jodi works in the office and is so sweet and very accommodating. There are washer & dryers on many of the floors and the rentals can come furnished if you like. It also has a workout room with cardio machines. Love the Building and All the staff. If I decide to move back to Chicago Here is where I will live. Until then this will be my home away from home! Stayed here, booked as "Downtown Suites". Student housing that is used as nightly stay rooms when not otherwise being used. The price was great, the view incredible - it looked out over The Bean and Lake Michigan and the two bedroom apartment was lack-luster. It had some of the basics - beds, a tv, a bath. White scuffed up walls. Clean floors. Memory foam mattresses. Missing in action- dishes of all types ( there were some plates and one juice glass in the kitchen) a soap dish in the bathroom and any instructions for the WiFi. There WAS dirty carpet in the hallways, a hole in the wall in the laundry area and torn out door knobs on the "communication room". Check-in time was 4, the room was ready at 5:15. The lady at the check-in desk was wonderful- trying to juggle all that was happening. Stay here again - yes, knowing what is in store. read more

This is your Caveat Emptor (Let the Buyer Beware)!!!!!! I will attempt to be as objective about this place as possible. If you have to stay here because of school housing I feel for you, if you are looking for a place to stay over the summer while interning RUN THE OTHER WAY. The pricing is ridiculous in the first place, although you are right in the middle of the city the building management does nothing in return for the money you are spending. Sure if you need a wall painted or something taped together really quick that will be done, but try anything that involves skill because the rooms are falling apart and the building is cheaply thrown together. The internet is almost as reliable as management, you after having to because a network specialist you'll still be lucky to do homework every night without web pages freezing and not loading. Never expect enjoy having guest over, management runs the place as if it is a prison, your guest are only allowed over a very few short nights, and after that they must wait a week for they can stay over again. The elevators seem to break down every two or three weeks, so if you do have to stay leave early so you are not late to appointments. There is no parking, and seems as if management is not working with any of the parking garages or other building around to provide even a few spaces. For the amount of money being paid you'd think you would have A/C and Heating at night, GOOD LUCK, your going to cook in the Summer and freeze in the Winter. read more

I have been living in Fornelli Hall for most of the summer, and I must say it has been an enjoyable experience. First of all, the building's security does a great job of keeping the building safe. They are always friendly and help accommodate your guests. The management office is terrific. They are always on the spot when it comes to handling any concerns that you may come across. They always keep you up to date on current events going on in Chicago. They inform you of the many free concerts going on at Millennium Park. They are also informative when it comes to public transpiration. The only problem I have with the management office is that their hours are 9am to 5pm, and I work during the day so it is very difficult to get in touch with them When it comes to your personal space, the unit layout is well beyond expectations. You are provided with kitchen appliances, your own bathroom that has been recently remodeled, and the units come contemporarily furnished. Sometimes it's really annoying trying to get in and out of the building because of the crowds and traffic since Fornelli hall is next to millennium park and Michigan avenue. Fornelli hall is honestly worth every penny. Live here! read more

WORST PLACE TO LIVE My two roommates and I pay wayyy too much for what the management delivers (or doesn't) on. First, when I was moving in the security women were very rude and screamed at me for having so many boxes to bring up in the elevator. They were unhelpful in letting us through the automatic doors and we had to carry many things through the revolving door. After we moved in it took us a month and a half to receive mail keys and we've been here three months now and still do not have the room keys promised to us. During this time we called the property manager, Jodie, every day only to go straight to voicemail each time. We would also visit the management office which was never unlocked and no one would ever answer. We would call and hear the phone ringing on the other side with no answer, and in the last few weeks.. straight to voicemail. We were told Jodie was out due to "personal issues" but would see her in the lobby all the time or taking a smoke break. The only reason we got our keys was after I threatened to sue because my bills were so late and I was getting charged more. Now we are still waiting on the rest of our keys and the door key doesn't even work! I've been locked out three times so far because the key card looses memory after awhile and you have to get a new one. ?? Besides the management issues, the place is dirty and the apartments remind me of an abandoned middle school complete with the green linoleum floor and barely-there carpets. The security is non existent and the front desk lady spends all of her time on her cell phone or scrolling through Facebook and then gets mad that you ask about a package. Seriously what were the job requirements here? Overall 0/10 would not recommend to a friend or a stranger. read more

The unit was OK, however, the building is becoming more and more run-down. A lot of the elevators don't work, there is carpet coming up in the hallways, the walls have dings on them. Some of the staff are friendly, others are rude and threaten to call the police for no reason. If you have other options, go there first. read more

I was thinking about living here, but I couldn't even get a proper price quote. I tried calling a few times, and no one picked up. I had to email a couple people, and their responses were inadequate. I made it clear what type of room I was looking for, and the lady that emailed me back didn't even answer my question. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!! If I could give this apartment 0 stars, I would. I have been living here for the past year and it is one of the worst places to live in Chicago (I have lived in three apartments before). Management: Tried to rob me of my money when I first signed my lease telling me I had to pay for extra things that she previously told me that I didn't have to pay for. Security: If you want to meet the most disrespectful people that you've ever met, go ahead and live here. They are mad at you when you ask them if you have a package delivery and give you so much sass when you try to be nice to them. They are outwardly annoyed at you and even roll their eyes at you when they don't want to give you your mail or have any other requests even when I'm being as nice as I can be. Another reason why you shouldn't live here: they can't hire good staff. They don't have any security precautions so ANYONE can walk into the apartment and go up the elevator. Apartment/hallways: There is absolutely no sunlight at all. If you're into that, go ahead. It is old and dingy inside the apartment. There is no bathtub and the bathroom begins to become moldy and dusty after time. The hallways smell like weed 24/7. Every five steps you take, it smells different. The only reason why I decided to live here is because of the cheap rent. Honestly, it will cause you so much happiness if you spend an extra couple hundred dollars to live at another apartment. read more

Do not ever live here!! Seriously! Don't even try!!!! The whole management team is just one elder lady who's both incompetent and hard to deal with. She's never here and takes at least two days to respond to email. What happens if your heat goes off during a cold winter night? You'll freeze for at least two days! There is a note saying don't ever keep your door unlocked and watch out for suspicious people in the hallway. I bet you would feel so safe living here. However, it's great if you don't want to follow your leasing rules cause no management is ever here. Ppl break all kinds of rules in this building. There are several different names for this place. It is housing but it is also a "hotel." Basically they sell the empty units as hotel suites for short stays. And they look pretty much like most cheap apartments look after some be has moved out. They are "downtown suites", "loop suites," "Pangea corporate suits," and who knows what else. I guess that makes it harder to find the bad reviews. This place is gross. It looked like a bunch of college frat boys had just moved out of my unit. Half the furniture was broken and several lights did not work. The window was wide open when I walked in. The carpet was dirty, there were dark hairs everywhere (I am blonde), and worst of all, something decided to feast on me in the night. My right arm and my chin had been chewed up with strange bites. It has been 24 hours since I discovered this when I woke up for their 10am check out and whatever it is is spreading. I am now writing this from an urgent care clinic while I wait to get these bites checked out bc they are becoming hot, hard, and painful. This was a last minute booking and the location was ideal-if you can sleep through the train regularly running by. The lady at the front desk was very nice but she worked for the building and not the "hotel." Unless you love being itchy and in pain and spending money on urgent care, please spend a little more and don't put yourself through this! read more

I tried to ask him several questions as he is the "hotel manager" and he yelled profanity and hung up, refused to change our dates or answer my texts and calls. I was a resident at Fornelli for the 2012-2013 school year. I really enjoyed living there mostly because it is in such a great location. It is so close to Millennium Park, Michigan ave and state st, the bus, el, etc. I wound up paying a little more than I would have liked but it was worth it with location, all utilities are included and 24 hour security. I also liked how they have a fitness center with cardio machines, but wish they had a few strength training machines as well. Fornelli Management and maintenance was responsive and always nice to me. I lived here with two other friends that I go to school with and we all enjoyed it and had a good time. I definitely would have resigned my lease at Fornelli if my roommates decided to stay in the loop. Overall fun and cool place to live in an awesome location. Try to get a unit with a view of Millennium Park if you can! read more

I'm surprised at some of the reviews I read here. I'm living here for the summer and I've been extremely happy with my experience so far. The price is incredible for living in downtown, though I am with a University so I'm betting that my rate is going to be much cheaper than those who just want to live here for the summer. The management and security staff are extremely friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. When I first checked in, I came from out-of-state and arrived almost 3 hours after check-in had ended. The security guard on duty went out of his way to find someone from management so that they could get me my keys and help me move in so I wouldn't have to drive back or spend the night in a hotel. The lady from management helped me move all of my stuff up and the process was about as painless as it gets. A couple of days after I moved in I had an issue with my bedroom door lock and was locked out of my room. Management tried to get the door open to no avail and they immediately had someone from maintenance up to my room. They replaced my lock in less than an hour and free of charge, since the issue was of no fault of my own. I've never been in a building that was that quick to respond to an issue. As for my room and apartment, it's great. There is some wear and tear that is exactly what you would expect moving into a space that was previous occupied by college students, but there is nothing majorly wrong. All outlets and lights work. In my room I am provided with a wall light, a desk and desk lamp, and a light in my closet. I have a bed (which is surprisingly comfy for a dorm bed) and full-sized dresser with 4 drawers than can come apart and placed under your bed if you prefer that kind of storage. I have much more space than I was expecting. In the common area of the apartment, I have a kitchen table with two chairs, two couches, a coffee table, telephone and a lamp. The kitchen has a microwave, a full-sized fridge, ample cupboard space, an electric stove/oven and a nice, deep sink. The common space is great provides plenty of room for both roommates and friends. Also, I have basic DirecTV included with the rent. Setting up the service took all of 5 minutes on the phone with Access 3 Media, 3 minutes of that was on hold while the staff activated the account. The internet is also blazing fast; I even have my gaming console connected to the wireless internet and it works very well. Overall, I will absolutely live in Fornelli Hall again. In fact, I hope that I can stay in this unit, or at the very least in the building for Fall and Spring semester. You will be really hard-pressed to find better, more affordable student housing elsewhere in the City. read more

I lived at Fornelli Hall for two years - once when I was a student and then for another year as an independent - and overall it was a good experience. I'm not sure about the negative comments about management, I always found management to be very helpful 24/7. Since I moved in there have been constant building renovations. During my first year the windows in my unit were replaced, and they recently upgraded the fitness center. Being a young women living in the city for the first time alone, I felt very safe in the building because there was a guard on duty 24/7. The one thing that was kind of an annoyance was having guest visit/stay overnight when I was in school. I was only allowed three guests to visit/stay over at a time, but when I was an independent I could have as many guests visit/stay over at a time as I wanted. I never experienced problems with my heater/ac, but the Internet was spotty depending on the time of day. As far as my room, I lived in a two bedroom my first year and a studio my second year. I had no issues with either room, but obviously I preferred my studio over the two bedroom. The only thing that was a real bummer was that I had to pay damage charges when I moved out because I used masking tape on the walls and not painters tape. Overall my experience living at Fornelli Hall was positive, and would recommend living here to anyone who wants to be in the heart of the city. Thanks, Fornelli!!! read more

This is absolutely horrible place to live in. I would rather live out in the streets then go back to that place. It's in the great location. I admit that. Other than that, everything else was a nightmare. Let me go through everything that I had to go through. 1. The place was less than 350 square feet. Maybe little over 300 square feet. Paid $1300 for that small place. Part of the floor is carpet; the rest is cheap tile floor. (green) Carpet is cut into squares to fit edges, but some cement floor underneath the carpet is exposed. The place is so small that I can almost reach the kitchen sink from my bed. 2. Windows do not open. You need to make the request to have the window open. No window screen. Once the window is open, it would not close. You need to make a request to have them closed and it will be done luckily in a day or two. 3. Sometimes when A/C breaks down and the room temperature will go up as high as 84 degrees. Not kidding. I'm so regretful that I did not take a picture of this. I made a request to have it fixed and I went down to sign up for technician visit on 3~4 different occasions. Never had it fixed for a week. I had to sleep over at my friend's place. This is when I asked to have my windows open. They did not do this either for a few days. 4. Slowest Wi-Fi ever. Never works. I went to Starbucks to use internet. 5. No view at all. My window was facing the other building. I saw a naked guy walking around his apartment. 6. Only one washer and dryer each floor. 7. I had to pay for the first and last month's rent with refundable security deposit of 650 as I was moving in. (My friend also moved in to 55 E. Washington w/o paying security deposit) They withdrew last month's rent from my bank anyways. They also deducted $140 out of $650 for the following reasons: stove burner replacement ($25), spot paint ($25), toilet cleaning ($20), shower cleaning ($20), sink/counter cleaning ($30), vanity cleaning ($20). Total $140. I cleaned the place for hours before I left so that they would not need cleaning. In fact, the unit was cleaner than when I first moved in. And after all, by law, tenant's security deposit should not be used to cover the cost of ordinary wear and tear. Also, I should have received a list of damages (which wasn't even damages to begin with) and receipt before the check was sent to me and I should have received a letter with estimates of work to be done before the work was done. All I got was a check only upon request after 2 months without any explanations. Ridiculously, they sent me the actual security deposit check to my previous address on file. I tried to get my point across, but all they said was, "Unfortunately, as mentioned below, we will not be refunding the entire Security Deposit, as the work was required, completed, and the funds have already been paid out." There are so many other things that I want to mention, but I will stop here. My friend also lived here had the worst experience ever. After she moved out, she put up a feedback on yelp and it got deleted! I will make sure to put up the feedback if it gets deleted. read more

Fornelli Hall was awesome and I was so happy with my experience there. Not only is the location perfect, but the building is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. We had an awesome view of Millenium Park from our living area and were within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to be. Completely worth the price. It was also really nice that it came fully furnished so my roommate and I didn't have to worry about that. Since I was living with a roommate, the individual lease option was perfect for us and management was always really helpful when we had questions about our leases. Loved my experience there, would definitely recommend it. read more

It's right in the center of it all with gorgeous views of Millennium Park and walking distance to pretty much everything you would want to do and see in Chicago. Moved into the apartment off a sublet with about 4 months left on the lease and within a month of me moving in told me I had to resign on the spot or they would increase the rent from $1750 to $2500... WHAT. Asked for their reasoning on the significant increase she told me because my other roommate moved out... ok? Then she told me it's because her "marketplace analysis" placed the price there. Anyone who has been in my apartment says there is NO WAY they would pay that much for the place- it's a dump compared to any other apartment priced for the same amount! There's hardly any storage space, the closets are randomly in the living room and not in the bedrooms, and there's no central lighting. Also there is something wrong with the piping in the bathrooms that makes it smell terrible whenever you flush a toilet and the AC cannot go under 74 degrees otherwise "the system will freeze" so we have multiple sleepless nights sweating our asses off. Security is terrible, they don't check ANYONE who comes into the front door! I had a random man get out with me on my floor from the elevator and realized he was still following me 20 ft from my door- I had to run into my room and saw him immediately turn around and run away. SCARY. Would not recommend- that place needs to get its act together. read more
