We cruised down a country road, traversed a charming little bridge over a babbling brook, and drove pass rolling green hills to the house. In the mornings, we'd wake up in our comfy, wood-beam ceilinged room and look out the window to see a Beatrix Potter-type scene--a green slope peppered with adorable farm animals. One memorable experience was when the innkeeper invited our daughter to bottle-feed a calf one morning. Breakfast was a hearty English breakfast, and every morning, a mound of freshly baked bread was provided on the sideboard for us to slice ourselves. The picturesque vistas around the farm and the landscapes of the Lake District reminded us of the Shire and Lord of the Rings.

There are mixed reviews about the rooms and the food on other sites but for a pub stop it's definitely worth the visit. Oh, and right behind the pub is the start of one of the area's best walks up to Moss Eccles Tarn and beyond.

We don't like the vibe of the outdoor activity centre quite as much as in the other parks, which marks it down a little. Overall, though, we had a great weekend at a decent driving distance from Scotland.

Center Parcs brought what was Oasis several years ago and since then there has been lots of changes, some for the better and some for the worst. The most noticable being the price! It can be ridiculously expensive - especially during school holiday where you can spend over £1000 for 5 days in a standard lodge. The good thing about this Parc is the accomodation. No matter which level you go for (range between comfort and exclusive), you won't be disappointed. They are all wooden cladded lodges set within the forest and all a nice walk to either the Country Club or the village centre. We usually stay in an executive lodge which have a sauna. Not a necessity and we don't really use it too often but for 1st time visitors it is a nice extra. You also get a daily maid service in the executive which is very nice! The pool area is great fun for all the family. We like to sit at the top level where if you are lucky you will be able to get a sun lounger and chill out with a good book while the kids go off and play on the flumes and slides. The outdoor pool is small but great. We have never been in the summer so we don't know how overcrowded it gets but be prepared for a sprint to the outside pool in your 'cossie' as it is rather chilly! We have used most of the restaraunts either for take away or sit in meals and have enjoyed most of them. The on site pub - Tom Cobleighs has a small play area so is worth a visit if you have smaller children. As with most holiday parcs, the food can be expensive so we try and eat in as much as we can and then go out a couple of times. It is worth taking food into the pool area too as the drinks and snacks are pricey here. They have a well stocked supermarket on site too which again is a little more expensive than normal but you will find most things you need here. There is a cash point, creche, small cinema, and a doctors which we have needed to take our child to in the past and the doctor here was fantastic! Some activities are again pricey. The kids have enjoyed roller skating, badminton and football but we don't feel we need to spend our holiday doing lots of different activities. Just walking through the lovely forest from the lodge to the sports plaza to grab a latte and watch the kids playing pool is enough for us. We love it here and can't wait to go back!

Langdale's enviable location is unmatched with stunning views including the Langdale Pikes, Loughrigg Fell and rolling views all the way down to Lake Windermere and Bowness." All of this is accurate, but doesn't convey the enjoyment all ages get from staying here. The dormitory rooms are perfect for families or for groups of friends, the kitchen facilities are excellent and the Great Hall and Sitting Rooms are breathtaking. We have now hired this hostel three times over the last fifteen years - our local residents' association has an annual weekend away together. Each time we come here the numbers increase as others hear how nice it is; there were 71 of us this time! The only minor disappointment we had was the lack of childrens' toys; in the past, there was a room with many things for the little ones to play with, this has now gone. Perhaps this is a part of the "getting away from it all" change. I remember a TV when we stayed previously - that has also gone, but no great loss in my opinion!

Jim and his wife were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating! They went out of their way to made sure we were comfortable and took care of our needs. Jim gave us great restaurant recommendations and sight-seeing ideas as well as tips and maps to help us discover the Lake District. Breakfast was included and was very tasty and the porridge super creamy. The full English breakfast did not disappoint, made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients! Loved the English crepe-style pancakes. Cannot say enough about the level of service, hospitality and warmth! Definitely recommend and would return.

It is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in the upper part of Windermere but close to a centre of shops, pubs, restaurants, and post office etc. Parking is limited but doable. Breakfast is full, made to order, with an excellent freshly made fruit salad, quality granola etc. Excellent value and recommended.
