We were watching the Ryder Cup on their tv one afternoon, and a golf ball suddenly bounced down the stairs. One of the locals said 'How's that for 3D?' Later, when visiting the castle museum we realised how significant this remark was when we discovered that a Jedburgh man had invented 3D vision (Sir David Brewster, the stereograph). The only thing missing from this little gem of a pub is more regular live music, as I think accoustic acts would go down well at the weekend.

This was presented beautifully and was so tasty. Definitely one of the best vegetarian options I have tried in a while. As for desserts, I would have liked to have seen a lighter, fruit-based option, so decided against a dessert. However, my dining companions all ordered desserts and were suitably impressed. We where sited in a room at the back that was hidden from the lounge bar a sort of dining area where you could also just sit and have a few drinks. The food was basic, and that's what we where looking for, nothing fancy with a two course & a drink being under £15. There was a real open fire in the lounge bar, even though it was not lit you could imagine this place being real cosy in the winter months. I would go back here if l was ever in the area, customer service was definitely 5/5.

The service is very personal, great coffees, full Scottish bar with about a dozen taps. They have a few TVs for watching g football or golf and a several nice dining areas. They play jazz over the intercom during the day so it's very relaxing. The food! It's astonishingly good. I had a very good burger with trimmings on my first visit (sometimes beef burgers are not what Americans are used too in the UK). Talking to the lady behind the bar she informed us that they have just added some B&B accommodation, this will come in handy for relatives visiting us from Yorkshire, a bit different from the usual premier inn. The pub itself has a very nice lounge, very relaxing with fireplace. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and this has a warm atmosphere. There is a separate bar area which also has a nice feel to it. I will come back here again, and although I do not live in Ellington, i wish this was my local! Plenty of parking outside the pub. (especially Teresa), its a traditional pub with values to match, they have pool, darts, and an open mike night of sorts, Saturday Night is karaoke, (we love it) unfortunately we missed that, having to go home. Going to the toilet if you are female feels a bit odd at first as the ladies loos are upstairs entered by a staircase right across the room (you have to squeeze by the karaoke machine on some nights!). This pub is pretty small and the decor is a bit shabby but the drinks arent expensive and you can see if the clubs are open from the window.
