nothing against the army, but this particular place has horrible, horrible leadership. I was threatened by one of their officers and it took over two months just for them to tell me that they employ non-army personnel at some of their gates, which allows nothing. to my knowledge, why would you allow a army personnel to thread the civilian and no consequences or actions are being taken... would never think that someone is above the law because they are employed by the United state Army. there are laws and regulations that everybody has to comply with, but it seems to be fort hood don't have to abide by those Spoke with three different sergeants and heard three different things. After being here for three years I've come to notice how crappy leadership is here, i recently got a chief who won't allow married soldiers any time to eat just because were BAS holders so we starve and we work late hours no lunch no dinner. He writes you up for asking if you can bug chow and makes you give a class on chow regulations, he disrespects soldiers and acts like we're stupid when we know more about are MOS than he does, he a little baby who if you turn sideways on him just a tiny bit he crawls to the computer and starts typing and higher ups just say he's a leader in training and they're working with him, but we soldiers get punished for tryna Ssg something and it's his rank over ours, anytime you get a higher up on your side they talk to him and he says some BS and now you got higher ups against you, I come home late and my wife gets mad cause I come home stressed, and hungry, I got my career on line now because of a counseling for asking about chow, and another counseling because I didn't do the class to his standards when I asked for resources and he only gave me one when he even put on it that he will provide ALL information to complete task. He abused his rank doesn't know how to lead entire squad/ and his past squad all had problems with him but he just gets a slap on wrist, he's probably written like 30 counselings in the past 6 months, he doesn't let you speak, he will ask you a question and when you go to answer it he tells you to "shut up" or "lock it up" fort hood tryna do this whole "people first" thing but what's the point when you got leaders like him in army. He doesn't do PT he never at work, he just sits behind his phone and makes your life miserable, idk why I re-enlisted to stay here I'm a idiot for that, part of me wanted to see fort hood change but it seems like it's getting worse. I can't wait to try and get the hell out of here to a new base, new unit, if your stationed here I'm sorry...maybe you'll get put in a good unit. read more

We live here on post. The first few months of living here my wife's car got broken into and wallet stolen. There was countless break-ins in our neighborhood, Both houses and cars. Traffic is horrible on 190 during rush hours. Killeen is really ghetto. You see people around town and wonder WTF they are doing here. Did not expect to see gang bangers and tweakers in a military town. Burba gym is my favorite gym here. Abrams gym is currently under construction, it is the only gym on post with indoor basketball courts. There are 3 skateparks on post which I was excited about but they are all plastic/wood. There is a bowling alley right inside of the clear Creek gate. We've been going midnight bowling every Saturday. 40$ a lane shoes included. Plenty of places to eat around here. As well as barber shops. read more

Fort Hood - Public Services & Government Near Me

I have been at many Army Posts during our military life but I have never been to such a large post.My husband took me to the PX at Fort Hood. WOW what a nice place. They had a shopping mall that carried everything from food to cowboy boots. never seen anything like it before. Of course, they had just opened the week before so everything was brand new. The post itself is not as nice looking as other places because it is Cav,which is filled with tanks and helicopters. glad we were never stationed here. read more

My community office in PP is fantastic. They are super friendly and helpful. The manager Jeff, cares about his tents' concerns, and they do the best they can to make sure you have the best as possible experience, but the leasing office is worst. They are extremely rude, disrespectful from corporate/leasing to the receptionist. The leasing office could care less about helping to assure tents are taken are of or satisfied with the home; future tents look forward to issues with them. They are just trying to put bodies into homes and feel as if you should be grateful to live in any of their homes even if it's unlivable because living on post in one of their homes is a privilege. Once you're in a house, you're stuck there no matter what because they will refuse to move you no matter how long you have been with them, and they are very untrustworthy. Lower enlisted homes aren't even worth the pay they ask for at all. Your best bet is the small list of rental companies in the area. Research hard before also considering this place, or I promise you will regret it in the long run, and the only person left suffering is you and your family. read more

Husband and I have only been here for three months and the minute we got here we wanted to go somewhere else. When we arrived at our house we were told that it was fully cleaned inside and out and that the house would beautiful. I would like to speak with whoever "cleaned" this house and thought it would be suitable to pass on to someone. Husband and I come home everyday to a house that is dirtier than the way we left in the morning. We understand that this is a place giving to us, but my husband has signed his life away, the very very least they could do is give him a nice and clean and safe house to live in while he's here. Apparently that was to much to ask for. We have a neighbor that beats his wife regularly, and maybe even their son, and doesn't get in trouble for it. We had the cops over there multiple times and they just tell him to stop. Whoever pawned the name, "The Great Place" needs to go see how other bases function. read more

We got stuck there for 10 years. We kept an open mind and lived on post for about 2 years. We were unfortunate enough to get those old houses in Comanche 3 village and it was dirty....cockroaches coming up the drain pipe, led paint peeling off everything that was painted and not to mention the mold. Then I heard everything my neighbor was doing in her bedroom while her husband was deployed with other soldiers. The other neighbor went crazy when her husband deployed and took it out on the whole culdesec by calling MPs if you accidentally get her yard wet while watering your lawn, kids playing in front of her driveway, or touches the dirt on her yard. It was ghetto and we ended up moving off post to get away from her as others did. We made a mistake of buying a brand new home but got lucky on the neighborhood. If you want to rent or buy, Bridgewood subdivision is pretty nice. Fort Hood/Killeen is full of places to eat and that's about it. Oh and hospitals and clinics everywhere. It's a typical military town no matter what people tell you about how it's growing. What's growing are new subdivisions and restaurants. If you want to own a brand new home you have choices. I would recommend purchasing homes that are few years older because unless you're planning on retiring there, you'll have a hard time selling your house because soldiers want to buy brand new homes that are being built. You'll spend $160,000 on a brand new home but you'll have to come up with $20,000 out of pocket to sell it after 5 years because you're competing with other homes on the market and no body wants to buy a "used home" for what you still owe. So buy older homes if you want a good deal and still have a nice house. Down town is a ghetto. If you like Fort Bragg, you'll like Fort Hood. This is where you'll see women going to Walmart in their PJs or something very inappropriate. Job wise, unless you work in food service or medical, it's hard to find a decent job. Austin has jobs but it takes about an hour to get to down town Austin without traffic. There's not much to do unless you're willing to drive few hours to attractions. There is Central Texas Community College right out the Clear Creek gate and Texas A &M central Texas if you want to study. It takes about 8 hours just to get out of Texas considering FT Hood is in central TX. read more

Do not pick liberty village it has roaches and they have been here since before we got the house and we've lived in it since the end of June almost six months and we can't get rid of them we are hoping to get out of this village its nice but the roaches make me feel like my house it nasty all the time and I'm ocd not will get rid of them we've done everything we can think of my advice is aovid this village unless u want bugs read more

I've been on many bases and this one has damn near everything you need or could want. I like how food & services are spread out with multiples here and there. We're always having celebs or hosting concerts with the occasional WWE match. I have met quite a few stars whether I wanted to or not. We've had our ups and downs here but truly is "The Great Place". This is Fort Hood, Tx. The great place. I have been here for over 3 years. It has grown from a small city to a very med to large city. It is one of the best Army bases I have been to in my career. It is in the center of Texas so travel is only a short distance. read more

This is our 4th duty station and it's probably our favorite. Yes, in certain parts of Fort Hood/Killeen there are "bad areas" but what big city doesn't have those? This area is booming with new housing areas, new businesses, etc. read more

So many staff members, I got in And out of processing in 10 days! It's the fastest ever! I waited in line for 10 hrs once for a 5 min station, and I waited 5 days to be on a waitlist for a 5 min station! It's amazing how well organized and fast this place is! I absolutely love fort hood. Everybody else is just a whiny little troll. Fort hood has everything around it, Austin, Houston etc. And outside the gates you have so many restaurants it's hard to choose from. Also fort hood has so many barbershops that they all compete with each other giving you the cheapest hair cut around! Only 8 bucks man!!! Of course it's not the best hair cut, but at least you won't get bitched at for being outta regs. Also gas is cheaper in texas than it is in most places and.. Yeah that's really it, other than that everything sucks, but honestly what do you expect? It's the army, and most us are soldiers not princes or princesses, it's the military not a vacation spot, so quit your damn bitching and soldier up!! Even if it means living in a barracks full of black mold like I did for 3 years, I'm still alive...barely now... But still alive. Also when you get out you can claim that you've been breathing black mold and get 60% disability for your whole life, so in the end it all works out! read more

It's not a good place to live. Homes to rent around here all seem to be ruin down. So my husband and I got a place on post. Not much to do in killeen except get robbed, so many great things about texas if you're willing to drive to Austin or further. Everyone here really hates. It's all about what you make it though. They have a New frg command for most infantry companies so they're trying to make a better name for the frg and put families first. read more
