Due to my boyfriend's severe back pain, we headed to Larbert, hoping to get some help. Long story short, we were sent here after the Larbert staff sent us away and booked us an appointment for that evening in Stirling. On the wall, there's a sign and it reads that they: do NOT treat back pain. My boyfriend confirmed and the doctor told him that, yes, if we had initially come to the minor injury unit, they would have most probably sent us to Larbert, only to be sent back. Because that totally makes sense, doesn't it?! - That's not a fun thing to have to do at the best of times, but when you're in need of medicinal attendance, well, I guess you'd be more than a little peeved in being sent back and forth. Three stars because we were actually seen to here. - There was a relatively short wait time and they were able to prescribe some strong pain meds.

I thankfully evaded it, but around October time this place was swarming with red-nosed, pale-faced students and the doctors coped with it well. I did have to come here when I hurt my shoulder playing rugby. I was seen to by a particularly attractive and young GP who was very attentive. She also gave me plenty of helpful advice on how to recover and avoid future injury. The secretarial staff are also really friendly and there are plenty of informative pamphlets to read through as you wait. Definitely worth being signed up to them if you're a local student or resident.

I think over the years we have visited almost every ward in this place…read more The hospital gets a bad reputation locally, but at the same time when there was talk that it was to shut, the local community rallied round to save it, so it can't be all bad. Most of our recent visits have been to Accident and Emergency (A&E) and I have to say it's a lot better than I remember it years ago. Sometime it's not been the cleanest and sometimes the staff don't do things in the order you'd expect, but after a 12 hour shift I think I'd be the same. The staff in the Intensive care (ICU) have a very difficult job and are really sympathetic to the families, giving them loads of time and space at a time that is truly difficult and harrowing. No matter where you are in the hospital there are loads of hand sanitiser to try and minimise the risk of infection and reminders everywhere so you don't forget that it's important to avoid patients catching unwanted infections. If you've dealing with issues over multiple wards, you'll find that the doctors tend to specialise and don't appear to be able to deal with issues out with their own speciality/department, which can be very frustrating as it should be simple to get some cross departmental cooperation and patient care. The car parking is difficult during the traditional visiting hours, often spilling out onto the neighbouring streets. Some wards have, in recent years, tried to move away from these traditional hours, so you may be in luck and be able to attend loved ones at hours that are more suitable for you, your family, the person your visiting and all with easier parking. There are lifts within the central corridor of the hospital at both the front and the back of the hospital, which will take you to the wards you're visiting, with loads of signs to help you get where you need to go without too much need to navigate the maze of corridors. Occasionally there are periods that the hospital is having ongoing maintenance, but these are usually highlighted and with new additions, such as the Maggie's Centre and the New Beatson, the Hospital is providing local services that the community need on their doorstep. There is a RVS (WRVS) tea room / snack area on the ground floor as well as a small WH Smiths which are open for limited hours during the day. If you are spending time there there is also a canteen on the basement of the building, but as It's some time since I've visited there I'll leave that to a later review or maybe someone else can review it. For those with disabilities there are disabled parking in the car park at the front door, but these fill fast so I'd advise to try to arrive early and grab something at the tea room or the shop before your visit. For those using public transport, there appears to be fairly regular bus services running and there is a bus stop across from the front of the hospital. The local train station (Coatdyke) is a short(wish) walk from the back of the hospital. Overall, the place could be better, but it is improving all the time and with staff working long hours and with NHS budgets the way they are, I'm glad it's still here as it's a vital life line for anyone who needs it.

Staff were all very pleasant and were always loads of nurses milling around if you needed anything. Only major issue was it took him around 7 hours to get released after they advised him that he could go home as needed to wait for a prescription coming from Pharmacy. It is depressing having to sit around in hospital for 7 hours when you know that you are going home and should try and sort this out as obviously too long a delay

It's embarassing when the reception staff know your name when you walk in, it helps clarify just how often I have been in here for this that and the next thing. The interior shifts from warm and welcoming to cold and vacant fairly unpredictably, with countless flyers covering all sorts of health information everywhere. The receptionists are busy and hardworking and the Doctors I have met have been mostly excellent. It still worries me that my own GP left recently due to unmentionable health problems resulting from being a heavy smoker. You can arrange a home visit if you phone early enough and there are a few chemists right around the corner where you can pick up a prescription at the now humble sum of £4 which I believe is to drop further in Scotland. You can also pick up condoms in here if that's what you're after. Just bring your 'C card'. Good luck getting a variety pack though. I typically get taken 5/10 minutes after my appointment time which makes the wait even more unbearable, but I won't complain.

That kid was me. The dentist was always absolutely lovely, and changed many times over the years, but each one just as nice as the previous! Sadly, i turned 18 and had to step into the adult world of dentistry, where they don't treat you like a baby, and I don't like it one bit! The rest of the centre is a doctors surgery, one which i am considering a move to myself (be prepared for a review coming soon about my own surgery....) and it is also a women's health clinic and a sexual health clinic at certain times of the week.

They also deemed I needed physiotherapy so I went into the queue, being told the waiting time was 7-11 weeks. This was understandably ridiculous and quite frustrating (hence losing a star) so I had an appointment at a private physio's in the meantime. After five weeks, I received a letter inviting me to book an appointment. When I went, I was happy with the modern facilities and thorough physio apt. Gavin checked out my knees and was excellent at informing me about what was wrong (and giving me take-home reading on the subject). The exercises he recommend were really helpful (and do-able, too). I have gone back for two follow-up appointments thus far and he has been genuine and kind, really seeming to remember me and being pleased about my progress. I thought he was much better than the private physio I saw and of course I liked that it was on the NHS so it was free!

Everything is well organised and even though waiting times seemed to be a little a off (I turned up for an open clinic and I was first in, but still had to wait over an hour) I was seen by medical staff who were knowledgeable and genuinely caring. Not every contraception is right for every person, so if you're wanting a change I recommend this place, will take "patients" of any age unlike other clinics around Edinburgh.

She was sitting down, and I was standing up. She stared at me bits for a moment much like the way that people squint and look over the top of their glasses, as if she was studying a piece of art. I have been attending his clinic over the last 10 years and he has helped me tremendously . I have had numerous problems in the past with my back , neck, etc and he has sorted each and everyone of them he does not waste time he gets on with the job that is needing done. I have just had all my records transferred to another medical centre. Already I am happy with that decision. The fortnight wait for an appointment from as stated by the sullen receptionist was one step to far for me. Of course, I could get a phone call - as yet not even seen a doctor - and probably there was little chance of getting in to see one in the future. I am slightly phobic about going to see a doctor at all - and the all round miserable experience with this practice was certainly not helping. I looked at reviews on here and saw people recommending moving away - yes! I agree with that. My new practice already on the phone to me to discuss my application to be a patients - and was spoken to by a very bubbly and friendly person on the end of the phone. I dreaded picking up the phone at all at Bruntsfield. So I am gone - it feels brilliant! I would advice as well you think of doing the same - this place in recent years has gone down the tubes.
