Great store, customer focused. The self-propelled cable on my mower snapped and I when to Forton's for a replacement part. My son was having some difficulty installing it and getting the tension set correctly, so we put the mower in the car, drove to Forton's. Tom's the best. My hero so far in 2018. Busted 2016 Toro and then 12 inches of powder get dumped on us. Was promised a call in 3 biz days on a Friday. Tom called me today (next day) and gave me the best news. Reasonably priced too. He was very friendly, Jerry-Garcia-Cute, knowledgeable and didn't rip me off with the oil change I didn't need {but I wasn't sure}. I brought him Chocolate Bar Cafe Cupcakes as an extra super thanks. I paid one of their employees "Mark" to clean up my yard, he came with his team and racked a couple piles of leaves and said that they would return the next morning and NEVER returned and it's been a week. Just had my lawnmower serviced at Forton's. Very happy with the service and the quality of work they did. When I dropped it off to be worked on he noticed right away something that had been broken by a previous shop while they had it to tuneup. Along with a spring tuneup they repaired the recoil and the other item that was broken-my lawnmower is old but it looked practically brand new when they rolled it out. They cleaned it up beautifully. Don't go here. I'm sure they can fix your lawnmower, but the two times I've been hoping the first time was a fluke, service been horrible. Each time they were rude and says I have to wait my turn even though I'm the only one there. However, the second time another customer came in after me and he was more than willing to help. So not sure if it was a racial, or sexism, but they did not want my my money. Take your money to Deronne Hardware True Value on 9 Mile Rd instead. read more

I walk into this place today and first off no one was in there to help me out, Waiting around, yelling Hello! I finally walked into the other building were it says employees only. Some old fart asked me, what do you need? I said, I have a snowblower and new paddles. How much would you charge if you put them on for me? Old Fart: Nope! If you didn't buy the paddles from here, we're not going to put them on! Me: ummmm ok, soooo your gonna turn down making a quick buck?! Old Fart: Nope! Not gonna do it. Turned around and walked back into (HELL) were it says employees only. We just moved over in this area and never well we come here for anything! Sad when a place like this is convenient cause it's right around the block to get your lawn or winter equipment worked on and you have to deal with douche bags like these people! I'd much rather take the time and drive out to Weigartz where they like to help out people. read more

never and i repeat never patronize this business. the owner is very rude and totally disrespectful. took a lawnmower here to get sharpened was told by an employee to bring it right over. well upon bringing it the owner starts yelling and telling me that he didn't authorize it and that i cannot get serviced. then starts making hand gestures, spitting and hitting the table while saying he owns the place and will have to leave it and wait 2 weeks. end result he screams get out and proceeds to curse out his employees who were actually nice individuals. read more

I had a snowblower that wouldn't start so I brought it to Forton's. It was fixed and ready to be picked up the next day and the price was very reasonable. I also enjoyed an interesting conversation with the older gentleman who owns the store. He is a very nice guy. I highly recommend Forton's for any outdoor equipment needs. read more

Dick Forton, known as "Mr. Forton" to people who are now seniors themselves, runs his business on the old fashioned principle of "if you are going to do something do it right". He fixes things the way they are supposed to be fixed--the right way with no short cuts. Sharpening lawn mower blades isn't cheap here, however; your blades will be perfect. I guess one has to weigh razor sharp blades and quality tune ups, etc. vs. going out and buying a new mower? Personally, Mr. Forton treats all people the same--he doesn't discriminate between long time customers and new customers. If you want the honesty and service that one would have received in the 50s, go here. If you want someone that is politically correct--go somewhere else. read more

I called this store twice to inquire about a Toro snow blower as I wanted to buy from a local small business vs. Home Depot. The person who answered the phone was rude both times. I decided to go to Helleybuycks in Warren instead because when I called them they were very friendly. I will not purchase anything from Forton's in the future, nor recommend them. read more
