I must have walked past this place a million times before I actually decided to venture in. The outdoor makes the place look extremely poky and a little shabby meaning that it's not the most welcoming of exteriors. Inside however is a different story as Forty Fives turns out to be a nice, cosy but not crowded and friendly little place. The interior is standard pub fare but with a modern sophisticated feel that is lacking from many of the more dated establishments in the area. The odd photo of East-End life serves to remind you, however, that this is an East-End bar which serves predominantly locals.
There is also a massive flatscreen which always seems to be airing one sport or another making this a great place to pop in to watch the game. The bar is well stocked and not excessively expensive and the food, although not especially extravegant is cheap and tasty.
Next time you're strolling down Mile End Road be sure to stop in here, I promise you won't be dissapointed. read more
