You can climb several hundred stairs or take the lift. I went with the lift because it was scorching hot and I'd been walking forever. The panoramic views of Nice and the port are amazing. It is definitely worthy of your time…read more There are dozens of beautiful paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries and one triptych that is new. A new triptych in an old cathedral? How could that be?? Yet there it was and it was gorgeous. Painted by Hugo Bogo and installed in May 2019. The chapel had burned and they needed to put new painting there. Such a sad story but the result was new art! Be sure to have an ice cream in the square and stop in.

The square is full of cafes with tables in the open air allowing for the Mediterranean sea breeze to tap upon the cheeks of their visitors. We learned the hard…read moreway that there was an elevator we can take (we had an umbrella stroller with a baby in it) so we climbed the stairs and held onto her stroller at the same time, going up and down the stairs. Then we learned once we got to the bottom, that there's an elevator!!! Oh well, next time. I'll be back here next month so if we have a chance to stop in again, we'll remember to use the elevator this time around. Come here when the sun is setting, we went earlier in the day and it was pretty hot, even though it was foggy. Just be careful not to stay too late, they close the gates on you without checking.

There are some nice mists there that come on and off every so often and quite refreshing on a hot day (see pictures). There are a couple of nice fountains and part of the park is shut at the moment for some reason.
