I use a lot of photo studios these days, but back when I was 15 it was pretty hard to find a studio that would let a young person use it freely. This was long before Fotofilia but the owner David Rann was the guy who first let me loose in a studio environment in his very first studio, and too this day one of the most upstanding professionals I know in the Birmingham photographic scene.
Skip forward 7 years and here I am, still using David's studios, now known as Fotoflia.
Fotofila is a studio/exhibition/photography education centre based in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. Though simple it is all it ever needs to be. From the front door your are greeted by a constantly changing exhibition which expands into a separate room and the hallway that leads into the studio.
The studio is where all the training sessions are also held, sometimes with live shoots. Fotofila offer courses to people at all levels and the prices are insanely good for how much time and effort David puts into his classes.
Now the studio it's self is basic with a black and white background on roll and the room is set up for a few different sets but all you will be using is the rolls I imagine. Depending what your into Dave keeps a stock of costumes an a few props in the makeup/changing room.
What I like about the space is that if your like me and use long telefocal lens's, the room is perfect to standing way back and sniping those perfect shots at 150m in.
Everything can now be booked in advance online including classes and studio time. Check it out guys. read more
