    Melting candelabra
    Jess L.

My friends and I got a reservation for 6:15p on a summer Friday a few weeks in advance. The cave-like restaurant was full the whole time we were there. Our waiter mostly impressed me with drink recommendations. His knowledge of wine and how it would pair with our food was impressive. The pastas are small but definitely worth it. They melt in your mouth. I'd recommend any of the vegetable-forward and cheese-based dishes, as well. None of the desserts really tickled our fancy. Check out the bathroom for a dance party.

A group of us ate here after reading great reviews. The menu is amazing!! Staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and its ingredients. The decor a super cool. I love the spooky candelabra. This place would be a favorite of someone who enjoys the dark sides of life who has an eclectic pallet. I would for sure come back here again.

Cute little restaurant in East Village on Avenue A. Good Mimosa drink. Cheeseburger was excellent. Limited menu but all good. No hot drinks. You can hang and won't chase you . Great service.

Really good appetizers. More of unorthodox Italian cuisine but refreshing taste. Intimate vibes with low lighting. Bread was so good

Foul Witch - Pepper Gelato with Mint

Despite being a sleepy Sunday evening, Foul Witch was hopping. I grabbed the last bar seat for an excellent and interesting dinner. The Celery Alla Romano featured slivers of celery (a little difficult to eat) mixed with a generous pile of anchovies and a beautifully pungent Pecorino. It was a great salad and a good beginning. The kitchen features a wood oven, so the Roast Shoulder of Goat sounded like a great match. The roasting brought out a nice flavor that complimented the unique taste of goat meat. My favorite dessert in a long time is their Black Pepper Gelato. The very definitive peppery flavor was complimented with saltiness, sweet, creamy and sugary elements. It hit every not right. I'd have another right now, if I could. While eating, my neighbors shared their impressions of their meals and we all agreed, this was quite the place. With so many interesting options, I can't wait to return.

The space has a spooky quirkiness to it thats done in a tasteful way & could be romantic if not for the loud music. It's worth a try but lacks the charm for a second visit imo. The highlight is the "off menu" fire & ice, a mix of spicy nduja sausage and creamy stracciatella cheese. Two very different textures and flavors that combine together very well Unique but also familiar! This with the complimentary bread (esp the focaccia!!!) is the best bite of the night. Also their butter If you can get past the VERY small portions of the tortellini, you will taste a strong amaretto flavor that feels a bit off against the rich veal filling. And rly the 15 tiny pieces of pasta is shocking even in nyc standards Potatoes are served cold, covered in a lovely butter blanc sauce & paddlefish roe. I rly liked but feels like a financially irresponsible reco. Oven baked hen is good, very juicy with a light ginger sauce but at the end of the day, just chicken.

I dropped 1.5 stars subjectively because the portions to price ration are absurd! The food was good, though nothing super mind blowing. I will admit, I didn't look up reviews for this place. Only came by as a suggestion from a friend and glanced at the menu prior. Prices looked amenable for regular portions. But alas, little did I know it was more of a tapas small to medium plate type place. Racked up $100+ per person. Service was great! The staff were kind! I just wish these plates were larger or lower in price. Mucho dinero! Don't think I'll be back.

My partner and I have been wanting to try Foul Witch for quite some time, and have heard nothing but rave reviews from some friends who have been a couple of times, so when we walked by and were lucky enough to snag 2 walk-in seats at the bar (~6pm on a Sunday), we were ecstatic. Oh, and if you couldn't tell by the 5 star review, we enjoyed our meal quite a bit. While it was pricey for a casual dinner, it is an excellent date spot (ambiance and all). Also - sitting at the comfortable bar leaves you right next to the open kitchen, so you get to see all of the magic in action. While we came for the wine (such an extensive and unique list), we stayed for the food. What an incredible gastronomic menu, all items which pair well with wine (I mean most food does anyway). The bartender, Alexis, was incredibly friendly and either verified or suggested items when we were choosing what to do for dinner. She was also ON IT with water refills and playing / setup, and was easy to approach when we needed something ( which could be a rarity at many spots of this calibre in Manhattan). Food-wise we ended up ordering a few dishes, the anchovies, the veal tortellini, the Oxtail Fazzoletti, the goat shoulder, and the sake lees cake for dessert (a lot of food, but we ended up finishing everything, it was that good). It was difficult to pick a favorite, but the goat was an incredible protein choice (honestly wouldn't have guessed it was goat) - flavorful and super easy to cut (not too gamey or fatty) and paired well with the charred scallions and turnips. Also - do not pass up on their bread and butter (they gave us a slice of each focaccia and baguette) - paired well with every dish and also great "in between course" palate cleaner. We will definitely be back and hope we get to experience sitting at the bar again!

First time here at Foul Witch and it was honestly very surprising. I don't know much when it comes to Italian cuisine so my review doesn't have any frame of reference on how these dishes taste anywhere else but every single one was fantastic! The meal was paced well and we took many recommendations from our server. She was fantastic and really made the experience very easy going. She even helped with wine pairing. The standout dish to me was the Veal Tortellini. The flavour really stood out and I would probably go back and order two next time. The space is nicely lit and was never too loud or too quiet. Not very large so would definitely recommend a reservation.

Their free bread (especially the focaccia) is delicious, but nothing else here really stood out. The service was quite slow, we waited quite a while to get our food and then the check. We started off with the Fire & Ice, which was stracciatella and a spicy sausage dip. It paired nicely with the bread they gave, and we ended up asking for an extra serving of bread. For pastas, we ordered the spaccatelli with aged game bird and the chitarra with dungeness crab. I personally preferred the crab, it had a lot more depth and flavor in comparison to the game bird which felt a bit lacking. However, we were way too full after the appetizers and bread to really be able to enjoy the entrees here. It was a bit on the expensive side as well and in my opinion, the portion sizes didn't really justify the cost.

Sake Lees Cake with honeycomb and clotted cream

I thought it was just ok - certainly nothing too memorable or "magical," but it was a solid meal. I wouldn't come back, but it was worth a try. The bread (mostly the butter) was fantastic, the high point of the meal. The beans were great. I quite enjoyed the orange wine as well. As for everything else, it was just fine. The veal tortellini was good but not super memorable. The bucatini with crab was the same, though I slightly preferred it to the veal. The cake for dessert was strange, the honeycomb was really the only thing giving it any sweetness. I didn't love it but appreciated that it was unique. As for service, our waitress was nice. We had our waters refilled throughout our meal which was great. The dishes are super cute, the bowls look like little dinosaur eggs. The restaurant itself is nothing special, though if I were to give a recommendation I'd definitely say sit in the back at the bar area if you can.

They had me at butter made in Bushwick. Finally made it to Foul Witch. Having any bread service much less one this stellar is a rare treat in NYC. Ate: Ficelle & focaccia plus butter. Mushrooms in brood $23 Doran's beans with salsa verde $17 Bay leaf ice cream $8 This is a pricey small plates kinda joint & they made an incredible use of space and a very wide business move to the EV for their first full service resty. Dessert was tasty & inventive not jaw dropping .The bread and savories alone are worth the price of admission. I will be back for more.

I've read great things about this place and my friends and I decided to try it out. Overall it was a good time. I was able to secure an early reservation at 5p on a sat. The place fills up fast so would recommend getting a reso when you can. We ordered the scallops, the capellini with crab, veal tortellini, a nduja pasta, an English pea pasta dish, the guinea hen, and the lamb, and the sake lee cake for dessert. My favorite was definitely the capellini pasta. The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was deliciously creamy. Would recommend getting some additional bread to soak up the flavor. The decor was interesting that gives it a unique vibe and the wait staff was super helpful in picking out the wine. The only caveat is that the portions are small so the price can add up!

The pasta was al dente perfection and most importantly there were generous sauce portions. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and personable. I dined with a friend and we ordered 3 pastas instead of an appetizer (fantastic choice). We tried the following dishes: *Garganelli Mushroom Ragu and Ricotta Salata. This was by far our favorite dish. It was bursting with flavor, had tons of sauce and cheese and was perfectly cooked. If you enjoy mushroom you MUST order this!! *Tagliatelle Bolognese Bianco (Chicken, Veal, Pork) and Parmigiano. Which was so delicious and has plenty of meat and sauce. The tagliatelle was amazing and tasted to fresh. *Bucatini with Pancetta, Tomato, Chilies and Pecorino. We thought this was good but our least favorite dish of the 3. Honorable mention to the spaghetti that my friend had at her last visit. She said it was fresh and delicious but almost too rich which she mostly owned to it being a white sauce.

We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. We were also touched by the complimentary anniversary scoop of ice cream. The interior seating is a bit snug, but the decor is beautiful--elegant yet homey. The service was good as well.
