My wife had the deep fried Brie along with tea n scone. The scone was a bit dry but underneath the clotted cream n jam it was fine. She wasn't a fan of the Brie as it was served and ended up excavating it from the breaded stuff to eat it solo. Overall not a place to single out for a visit except for the variety of clocks. If you find yourself walking by and have a moment or two feel free to sample other parts of the menu and decide for yourself... That's what I did and I don't feel as if my time was entirely wasted.

Our food was all very dry -- chicken on the salad devoid of moisture (nothing quite like dry and chewy chicken), bread from the toasted ciabatta like board stock, and even the scone sucked the moisture right out of your mouth despite even a heavy coating of cream and jam. I'm not even sure "very dry" covers it -- "desiccated" might actually not even be going too far for the items mentioned. The staff wasn't any better. Our first waitress clearly had little idea about what was on the menu, while the one who brought our first round of food flatly stated they didn't have any malt vinegar available for the fish fingers. Fortunately we asked again of the man who brought our second round of food, and he pointed out that they not only have malt vinegar, they keep the bottles on the table (we'd missed it for being tucked behind the drinks list). Food not worth returning for, and waitresses that didn't seem to know the restaurant; there were other menu choices I initially thought I might want to have a chance to try at some point, but in the end I won't be back.

Gravy and Yorkshire pudding were winners. It made me look a little more closely at the surroundings I was so impressed with, it's try hard, like the food. This is a fantastic pub, they just need to embrace that they're a pub.

Before going I checked out the menu on their website and was a bit surprised by the prices, which are quite expensive for what at the end of the day is a pub in North Wales. I'd more or less decided in advance to go for the Welsh steak & ale pie which at £12.95 was just about a fiver more expensive than the steak & ale pie on offer at my more familiar haunt, the Afon Conwy which is just a few miles away. I was hoping for a very special pie! First things first the pub has a large car park so parking was no problem. The interior is very nicely done albeit in a fairly predictable gastropub decor. The dining area lives up to the venue's name with several tables along the side of the building offering views of Conwy Castle just over the water. The staff were friendly and efficient although there weren't many other customers to keep them occupied so they weren't anywhere close to being kept busy. Foodwise I went with the steak and ale pie which was fortunately very good and very well presented. My wife had a Caesar salad which was also excellent. The kids opted for chicken goujons and fish and chips from the kids menu, which at £7.25 each were two of the priciest kids meals we've encountered in this part of the world. Again though they were excellent, the goujon meal came with the two biggest goujons I've ever seen and the fish was a generous portion. The best compliment I give though is that both plates were cleared, something that doesn't always happen with my kids. As always there had to be someone who ordered something I ended up wishing I'd ordered and in this case it was father-in-law whose beer battered cod turned out to be a huge piece of fish which looked to be have been perfectly cooked. As this is one of the cheapest meals on the main menu I think if I ever go back that might be the one to try. All in all the food, and accompanying drinks, were all excellent and every plate was cleared. It's just a shame it's so expensive in comparison to other places in the area. It was noticeable that the place was very quiet when we visited, in fact it was almost deserted apart from the staff. It's a real shame given the quality on offer and I was left wondering if maybe they'd get more business if they knocked a quid or two off the prices? Certainly I'd more inclined to revisit if this were the case.

However it does lack some of the old atmosphere. The Food here is excellent, a good choice of traditional pub grub and more elaborate dishes. The prices are good value and the portions are big. The Sweets are delicious, you must make room for one!! It has a nice seating are outside with stunning views over to Conwy castle, hence the name!

On our visit, the six Nations tournament was on TV and the locals were cheering on the Italians (as they were playing England, this was expected). There was Wetherspoons usual excellent choice of real ales at bargain prices and, alongside the usual bargain meals, there were a good half-dozen local-themed meals such as Welsh rarebit, lamb cawl, Welsh Dragon sausages.. If you are in the area, it would be a crime not to visit, just to see the place!

It's maybe not the best place for a romantic dinner but if you're after speed and convenience it's a better option than the MacDonalds one junction down the A55. On a recent visit my wife and I opted to take advantage of the two for a tenner option, which includes a varied range of meals so there should be something to appeal to everyone. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala and the missus went for the Chicken and Bacon salad. The generous portion of chicken tikka was very tasty to be fair and came with rice, naan bread, a couple of poppadoms and a pot of mango chutney. The salad was huge with plenty of chicken and bacon and went down a treat. There was a 2 for 2 quid pudding option but we passed on that as the main meals were filling enough. We've also recently finally got around to trying one of the evening all you can eat buffets. There's a different theme each weekday including Chinese, Pie Night, Tex-Mex, Indian and the one we tried which was Fish and Chip night. You help yourself to whatever you want from a selection of chips, fish, fishcakes, battered sausage, chicken, meat pie, peas, mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy and once you've got your plate you go back for more as many times as you can. The quality was surprisingly good for the price, the chicken in particular had plenty of meat on it, so we're now looking forward to trying a different night to see how that compares. On all our visits the service has been friendly and efficient and we've always had someone ask if we enjoyed our meals which isn't something you always get in other places.

They do bring the food to you, but you order at the bar. I went with the mushroom ravioli and there were soooo many raviolis! Very tasty, and I love mushrooms, so it worked out well haha. Just a lot of food. If I lived here or visited again, I'd make my way back here again. We booked with it being Saturday night and along with a couple of pints from their range of 5 guest cask ales, chose the lasagne and pork loin for dinner. The food menu is traditional British pub food, but we had heard from friends who'd visited previously that all the food is made from the freshest ingredients and of great quality so it was quite hard making our decision as everything sounded so tasty. We made a great choice as both our meals were excellent and just about squeezed in a piece of sticky toffee pudding in (I could have squeezed 2 pieces in it was that good...) but just be aware that the kitchen stops serving food at 9pm so make sure you leave yourself time to order it from the bar if you have a sweet tooth! The dish of veg had ice in it and the meat was only lukewarm. both families have Cats so we took the meat home for our Moggies, and left the rest . They did offer to serve fresh meals but we were passed it by then. They gave us a free pudding but all we wanted was a good quality hot meal. I would warn new customers to avoid The Crown Inn .
