Since their opening, Four Four South Village aims to provide authentic Taiwanese flavours in their hot pot, noodle soup, and rice dishes. Their main focus is to provide simple and bold flavours starting with their broth for their noodle soup and hot pot. Their DIY Hot Pot for 1 (or 2) is a fun way to enjoy their housemade broth with the amount of toppings and items you can cook with. Starting with their handpulled noodles, you can enjoy their DIY hot pot with AAA Rib Eye (It does come raw so you can cook it to your preference), Shanghai Bok Choy, Tofu Puffs, Shitake Mushrooms, Raw Egg (to add creaminess to the broth), Enoki Mushrooms, and Napa Cabbage. Not hot pots are alike, so you can choose however you want to enjoy your experience! Their Popcorn Chicken is crispy and tender. The right amount of garlic salt was added to enhance the natural flavour of the chicken thigh meat that is best enjoyed with some rice and preserved vegetables. Of course, you also need to try their Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodle Soup. The beef was tender where it melts in your mouth. The noodles were a tad overcooked from my liking of al dente noodles, but the overall taste was there! The overall dining experience was very pleasant as the ambiance was cheerful and quiet. The interior decor makes you feel like you are in Taiwan for a minute with a balance of tradition and modern aesthetics. I can't wait for my next visit to try their side dishes as I have heard great things about them as well!

Visited on Tuesday evening for dinner and had such a good time with a group of friends. The staff were so kind and friendly, so it made our dining experience even more pleasure. We ordered a lot of food as a big group and the food came quite quickly too I'm new to Taiwanese food and starting to like it more and more. Price for portion was very reasonable too. I'll be back for their mini hotpot and beef brisket noodles! (My friend really likes Dan Dan noodles too)

If you like Chinese beef noodle soup this place specializes in it. Portion size is good and noodles have a nice chew. They also have many other Taiwan dishes and Hunan dishes.

The decor and layout of the restaurant was very nice. It had a unique Chinese local restaurant ambiance to it. Our waitress was very nice, gave us lots of time to order and checked on us to see if we needed anything. The food was pretty good. My favorite was the century old egg dish with a delicious sauce on top. The beef hot pot was super filling. I liked the flavour of the soup too. Dessert was alright, we got the coconut red bead cake. Overall, we wnjoyed it. Would definitely come back!

I've found this review on draft that I've never sent out years ago apparently. But looking at the comments I still stand by it as I went back recently and the beef noodle soup was still pretty much watery. My colleague had tofu dish, he said it was okay. But they didn't even know who ordered what and could not explain properly. Another colleague had to wait a while when the dish came back again. Below comments were from soft opening time: ***No taste, spicy dish wasn't spicy. Maybe I eat a lot of spice, but that's nothing close to what other places would offer. The shaved ice tea drink didn't have much tea taste. The appetizer plate supposed to be marinated, but again no taste without soy sauce. The beef in the noodle soup was dry and also no taste. I would never go back again.

Dining with friends and fellow foodies is definitely something I've missed during this COVID era. It was nice to be out again, enjoying some good food! I met some friends for dinner at Four Four South Village, downtown on Yonge Street. It was my first time being there but I was looking forward to having some Taiwanese cuisine. We started by ordering several appetizers, including Braised Beef Shank, Braised Rib Finger Meat, Signature Braised Tofu, Braised Meatball with Soy Sauce, and Braised Pork Trotters. It was all good, hard to choose a favourite. Both ladies in our group had the Hot Pot and it looked delicious! It was all presented on a tray, complete with a gas burner, a pot of broth, noodles, meat to be cooked, and condiments. It looked good! Maybe I should have ordered that! I had the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and it was delicious! The broth had a rich flavour that I enjoyed and the beef was very tender. The other two guys in our party of five had something similar and they also enjoyed it. The decor was nice, with a rustic kinda village vibe. There was exposed concrete and brick walls, very tastefully done though. The food was good, with decent portions, good flavours, and good service. I would come back. One negative, however, was all the chipped dishware, almost every piece. Or was that part of the rustic ambiance? Hmmm...

Fantuan mixed up our order, which resulted in me calling in to place another order over the phone and ended up with 1 extra noodle. The gentleman on the phone was super nice about it and offered to void the noodles and he'll take it home. Since it's not his mistake and they were kind enough to squeeze my last order in for the night, I said I would just take all 3 bowls. To my surprise he gave us 5% off and a complimentary dessert. What's a nice gesture! The service once again was excellent over the phone and in person. I went with my old faithful: tomato half and half (beef and tendon) & the signature braised tofu. Both as good as I remember them to be. My husband also enjoyed his spicy beef noodles. My noodles were so delicious, I finished the very last drop of the soup. The noodles are different from other places, it's extra chewy and similar to the texture of udon. Their packaging was the smartest I've seen with the least amount of damage to planet earth. The bowl came with an insert up top for the noodles so the soup and noodles are separate yet both in the same bowl, just brilliant! I was thrilled to see that the quality of their food remained high even during COVID. It's unfortunate that during COVID, the meat in many take out orders I've had elsewhere tasted "off/old" but not here. Four four south village remains to be the best beef noodle in Toronto!

Came here after craving Taiwanese popcorn chicken and got the popcorn chicken and beef brisket. The interior is beautifully designed and the throwback Chinese music definitely set the mood. However, the food was pretty mediocre, especially given the price. The beef was a bit tough and the broth wasn't anything special despite it being one of their signature dishes.

A seventeen dollar noodle in an extremely shallow bowl? Barely any soup and 90% just noodles. Gives Taiwanese people a bad name. Will not recommend. In addition, tip recommendation is arrange from highest to lowest (30% to 13%) instead of the usual lowest to highest. Also charges a credit card transaction fee.

Was here earlier in the year. Didn't get a chance to post about it until now. Tried out their signature beef noodles, taiwanese meatball, taiwanese style fried chicken and some spicy noodles. Overall, the atmosphere is very nice, the location is very clean. The staff is friendly. The service is a bit slow though. So make sure to pack a bit of patience. A good place if you are looking for comfort food.

3.5 stars but tagging on Yelp as 4 for the attentive and quick service. My wife and I were here for an early dinner and found the place to be clean and spacious. We got: - Black fungus in vinegar sauce: Love me some black fungus and this was no different. The vinegar though was a smidge overpowering. - Signature Braised Tofu: The tofu consistency was a bit hard and chewy, which I liked... though I may be in the minority here. - Tomato Beef Noodles Soup: My wife thought the amount of meat was good, and the sourness of the broth was spot on. - Braised Beef and Tendon Noodles Soup: Thought the beef was tender enough, the noodles were firm, and the broth was ok. But the star of the dish was the tendon, which was soft and chewy. - Papaya Slush: Papaya taste came through (it was supposedly fresh) though a bit watered down. I haven't had a lot of Taiwanese noodle soup so not sure if this place stands out or not. That said, it was a pretty enjoyable meal.

I'm usually on a keto diet but not when I'm on vacation. On vacation, I eat anything that looks good and this evening's supper was a bowl of Dan Dan Noodles from the Four Four South Village. No, I'm not stuttering. Walking in and placing my order at the hostess stand was easy. I looked over the menu and made a quick decision. Pointed to a bench to wait, my dinner was handed to me not more than four minutes later. Speedy service, with napkins, chop sticks and a spoon already in the bag. Back in the room, the noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was tasty. Not a lot of heat here, which was a bummer. Dan Dan Noodles are supposed to be spicy and these did not have too much flavor. If you want them hot, ask for them hot. I'm sure they can oblige. [Review 11002 overall, 775 of 2019.]

I enjoyed it so much I've been back twice for it, and will be going in the future. The first visit was with friends, and they all really enjoyed their food as well, so my dish isn't a lone syandout.

We decided to share a bunch of dishes so we can try a bit of everything. The popcorn chicken was so delicious, perfectly crunchy and well seasoned. The BBQ sausage was very flavorful. The beef steak egg pancake was also good, though a bit oilier than expected. Our sukiyaki hotpot with udon had a nice, comforting broth and the toppings were solid. My favourite was the house-special minced pork on rice. Its a pretty simple dish but always hits the spot. The portion size is a bit smaller than if you were to compare to a traditional Chinese style restaurant. I would say this place leans more toward trendy, individual/fusion-style Taiwanese dining rather than big family style platters. In our case, with 5 people sharing mostly appetizers / smaller dishes, we ended up spending about $20 per person (tip + tax included) which is still a pretty good deal. I'd absolutely go back for the popcorn chicken and the minced-pork rice bowl again.

Since the last time I ate Monga, admittedly quite a while ago, they've changed the chicken from bone in to boneless. A nice touch for making it easier to eat on the go. The portion size is similar, well enough for a hungry single person or 2 people to share as a snack, and pricing is very fair given the downtown Toronto area. Only area for improvement would be letting the chicken sit a bit longer post frying, as my chicken was very greasy. I let it sit a while to drain so no big deal.
