There is one spot on the lake. The shoreline is shared with a church organization that posts no trespassing so we're limited to about 1/3 of the shoreline.

I have been practicing some open water swimming here. It is populated but has plenty of parking, making it feel family friendly and safe. On warmer weekend days I've seen families come out and have a BBQ. It's the perfect spot to enjoy the summer if you do not have access to a pool or can't make it down to the beach.

Some off shoot trails go along the shorelines and people come out here to fish or put a kayak in the water. There are plenty of birds and other wildlife to watch in the lake areas. Just a historical note. The Falls Lake area is part of the Neuse River system and is the main supply of water for Raleigh & Durham. It was created in the 70s to supply drinking water for a quickly expanding area of the state. Many valley, farms, and pasture lands were flooded to create it. In times of drought it's not uncommon for the top of an old barn to be seen in the water.

Drive all the way to the end of the road to reach the playground and beach area with shallow water that is perfect for kids. Bathrooms are clean and include lots of changing stalls. We saw many hiking trails and will be back to explore those. Nature was pristine -- so well maintained, no trash, absolutely gorgeous. We felt like we were in a magical place on a vacation, not right within Durham. We will be back regularly!

The lady said the map would be in the red box at the office. Wa-la there was a map with our name on it, in a red box. WOW!!! And, get this, the map led us to our spot, with a red pen line, and we didn't have to drive in circles in the middle of the night pissing everyone who is sleeping off. Amazing! The sites and large, level and well maintained. Plenty of amenities- 2 pools, a cute mini-golf course, 2 nice sized dog parks (that's super important to us) one even has a dog wash station, etc. There are several long term sites, but they are beautiful and well maintained. No trashy trailer park vibes here at all!!! The stuff is super friendly and responsive. We've enjoyed it so much that we're planning a longer stay over the summer!

We all really enjoyed waking up to such a breathtaking view. We took the paddle boats out for a spin, sneaking up on turtles perched on logs. The only downside, for us, was the number of cats and dogs that have free range around camp. We had brought our dogs for the weekend and were uncertain about how to keep our critters from going bananas trying to introduce themselves to the resident critters. We will certainly visit again, but we might leave our 4 legged friends at home.

The woman asked if it was our first time there and we said yes. We proceeded to buy firewood only to get to our site and find out there is no fire ring. Apparently you have to rent one. The woman made no mention of that to us. Sites in the back of the park were nicely shaded but there appears to be quite a few seasonal campers there and they definitely do not keep up on tidiness in their site. The dog park was loaded with dog mess that other owners never bothered to pick up even though there were scoopers and bags at the spot. We spoke to someone who has stayed there before and said the place has gone downhill since new owners took over. Very disappointed as we were hoping this would become a regular spot for us.

She saw NO office either and there was 4-6 campers just sitting there but she saw no people and there was no one there available to talk with about anything. So right now I am assuming that no body is there during the winter. Can understand why they didn't answer their email with my concerns asking if they have a space. I have NOTHING from them.
