A manicure should not hurt the next day. I asked the "nail technician" to make sure to get the tops of my cuticles, so she EVISCERATED them. She cut a chunk out of my finger. It seemed like she did it intentionally. She was angry and aggressive with me, yanking my arm. None of the "technicians" here are any good. They are miserable and all hate their jobs, and it really comes through in their customer service. It's such a bummer because they have nice massage chairs and offer hot tea and is within walking distance from my house. I refuse to go there anymore. read more

Four Seasons Nail Salon on Cortland is such a lovely find! The staff are professional and welcoming, and the salon itself feels clean and comfortable. They have a huge collection of gel polish colors, though the selection of regular polish is a bit smaller. (Not an issue for me since I just wanted a mauve, but if you're picky about regular polish colors, you might want to bring your own.) My pedicure and gel polish turned out beautifully. They did a great job cleaning up my cuticles, and the overall finish was neat and polished. A small but fun detail I enjoyed: they had a Vietnamese street food cooking show playing silently in the background--surprisingly soothing and visually interesting! The absolute highlight was the massage. Truly excellent--if I could give 10 stars just for that part, I would. I left feeling relaxed, pampered, and very happy with the whole experience. It was my birthday and so I decided to treat myself and get a gel manicure with pink cat eye polish at this salon for the very first time. When filing down my nails, the nail tech didn't cut my skin once, but twice! It hurt, but I didn't think much of it then. I just thought it was a minor cut. But I later realized it was more severe because both were bleeding and one of them was an especially deep cut! It's been days now and it still hurts! I think the technician knew about it too because it sounded as if she cursed, wiped my hands, and then kept my hands busy (one hand was always in the in the UV light and the other was being painted on). I felt like I didn't get a chance to truly inspect the damage until the end. When I was finally able to look at it, she asked me in a snide tone, "what's wrong?" And at that point I'm just wanting to leave asap since I rarely get my nails done (this was probably the first time in a year), it was my literal birthday, and I'm not a confrontational type of person. But I did tell her and pointed out the deep cut on my pinky finger. The only response I got from her was a lackluster sorry and that it was from the filing. No attempt at all to make things right. I paid $50 + $5 tip (since the design I got was pretty & what I asked for). I would've left a bigger tip if I wasn't all cut up at the end of this. The 2nd star is just because I got the nail design I asked for, even though I've been having to cover up 2 of my fingers with bandages. Yes beauty is pain and even though I don't get my nails done often, I know that it shouldn't hurt THAT bad. I've never been cut so bad at a nail salon and know that it isn't normal. I just hope all their equipment was properly sanitized. This was supposed to be a nice, relaxing time for me to feel pampered but it was the complete opposite experience. I rarely get a pedicure but my Mom and I came here last month as a treat and each for pedicures. My Mom saw that the ladies were not using new plastic liners in the foot baths, the plastic looked stretched out and saggy. The pedicure was nice, but my Mom developed a toenail fungus about one week later. Perhaps this is why the salon across the street seems more busy? I won't be back here. read more

This WAS my preferred nail salon on Cortland street mainly because I've always thought the manicurists are nicer, in my opinion, than the ladies at Bernal Heights Nail Care. They always make time for me and the wait is never too long. This salon is also conveniently located, but my visit this last week for a mani pedi is my last one. I've overlooked that they rushed and cut open my cuticles before, but not anymore. It was too much this time. They cut my hands in at least 3 spots and my feet too. I had two different women do the manicure and the pedicure and they were both rough and rushing. I don't think either was the manager, she was busy. The woman who did my pedicure was very agressive in removing the gel polish with an electric sander and she was not careful at all. She felt and heard me jump several times and say, "Ouch" from her sanding my skin and the heat of the sander, but she did not change her technique to avoid hurting me. The woman who did my manicure cut my fingers and did not apply the gel polish smoothly. She left bumps and rough edges, which I had to ask her to file. The quality of the application was bad and is already chipping 2 days later. The vibe is gloomy, cluttered, and outdated. This is also not the most creative place. They don't keep up on trends. You wouldn't ask for nail art here. This is a single color type of a place, which would be fine, if they did a nice job and tried not to hurt you. Honestly, it's not worth it to go there, and pay hard earned money for cuts and bad job. I can't do it anymore. The only thing I liked is that they protected my hands from the UV light with fingerless gloves. read more

Looking for a relaxing & pampering pedicure, I decided to try this place out because I was looking for a new spot, the salon looks decent & I love this neighborhood. It's unfortunate because I had high hopes for this place but left fairly disappointed. The lady that serviced me seemed to be the eldest of all and I just want to say she was pretty rude. During all my nails services, everywhere I go, I like to quickly take a closer look at my nails and feet frequently to make sure the nails aren't cut crooked, uneven and my targeted concerns are taken care of; I asked for a few of my toe nails to be cut shorter and she basically flicked my feet with her hands and repeatedly told me to place them in the water and she'll file later. Rude. Then, she made 2 of my toes bleed when cleaning my nails, that's an absolute turn off and so unsanitary. She did not apologize, it seemed like a normal thing for her and proceeded to dunk a cotton ball with antiseptic fluid and I guess clean it. She was very rough and made me nervous for anymore possible damage, I was pretty uncomfortable but didn't speak out on any of the mistreatment. In the end, someone else took over for her and painted my toenails, she didn't have another client to tend to or seem to have somewhere else to go. why do they do that? Sorry but now you both have to split the tip that was meant for 1 person. The salon itself is decent, had a good vibe and is in a great neighborhood. My mom and I have been here twice, and both times for pedicures only. The place is pretty decent, nice neighborhood with decent amount of parking every time I've been, which happens to be on Sunday late-afternoons. I did walk-ins with my mom both times, and their quoted wait time of 5-10 minutes is quite accurate. Pros: 1. Friendly staff who took their time with our pedicures. 2. Longer massages that are really relaxing, compared to most other places. 3. Massage chairs that give full back massages. 4. New linings in tub. I appreciate the sanitation measure! Cons: 1. The polish on both my big toes scuffed 1 day after. I am used to my pedicures lasting an entire month even with wearing close-toed shoes daily, so was quite surprised when I saw scuffing the day after. 2. Negligence on a non-packed day. Once they finished painting my mom's toes, the person did not even bring her a fan to expedite the drying process. I was quite surprised by this as everyone else, including myself, had a personal fan brought over. 3. I was not notified that they were doing the spa chair pedicure for $22. Their rates show they have a regular chair pedicure for $19. Now, I don't mind paying the extra $3 per person, but it's the fact that they do not inform the customer, nor do they give them the option, that bugs me. They might as well just remove the $19 rate altogether as I saw everyone in spa chairs. To me, this is a matter of ethics and not about the money alone. 4. The chairs are a bit old and are actually wobbly. I leaned back slightly and thought I was going to fall backwards completely. Just a small concern for safety here. This is a decent, not-too-crowded nail salon to stop by if you are in the neighborhood. Just A-OK for me, so I won't be going out of my way to get my nails done here. read more

This is my usual spot however lately the quality has been slacking.The last two times I've had a manicure done I've had to ask the person to redo the cuticles because it just doesn't appear like they do a good job. They seem distracted and don't pay attention. Also, I noticed they do not use the electronic device that smoothes the nails and helps trim cuticles. I have been coming here for a while this was my #1 spot. I love the services they have to offer plus the ambient is so relaxing...but this will be my last time visiting. The woman that did my manicure was really aggressive with me slamming my hand on the pillow and CUTTING MY CUTICLE but this isn't the first time she has done so. I'm always giving benefit of the doubt and giving it another try, but walking out with a pool of blood on my finger and being mistreated I can't do it anymore. OVERALL: Reasonably-priced nail salon, with quick service. I haven't had my nails done in years, but according to my friend who gets gel nails pretty often, these didn't last as long as they should have. THE WAIT: We called at 11am on a Sunday and there was no wait for a mani/pedi. However, we were delayed and got there at 1pm, when they were more booked up. Initially they said we'd have to wait until 2pm, but then took us after about 15 minutes (perfect timing for us to choose our color!). Our gel mani and pedi took about 1 hour, and our friend showed up halfway through and joined us for just a pedi. THE COST: $49 for a gel mani and a regular pedi. FYI they prefer cash tip. THE MANI/PEDI: Fine overall. The younger woman who was working reception when we got there did a slightly cleaner job on my nails than another woman who did my friend's. Our gel nails lasted about a week before the corners on a couple nails started lifting. read more

I don't understand how they got 4 stars. I chose this place because of the four stars compare to the others around. I have walked in requesting for a change in gel color. They used this tool to get rid of the old but basically scraping my nails down to the bottom. I told them it was hurting a lot and asked them if they can foil it with acetone to get rid of it. Her answer was "it will take 30-45mins"....??? Didn't even finish getting rid of the old and applying the new without a manicure! So very disappointed. Normally, I love this place, they always do a great job. In fact, they did a great job on Friday, on the people in my party that they actually got to. My wedding party came in to get manis and pedis. I had scheduled the appointments well in advance, 3 of us at 2pm, 3 of us at 2:30. When I called I made sure that we would all be done by 3:30, because we had a wedding rehearsal to get to. They took two walk-ins while they were helping us (SO GREEDY), and consequently, were not able to get around to two of the manicures in my party (my f$@&ing Mom and my sister). On top of that they were not done by 3:30. I was so upset, and I still am, enough so that even though this is my regular and favorite place to come for manis and pedis I don't think I will be back. Mani + Pedi is $25. The spa chair has an interesting massage feature which massages my butt and lower regions. Personally, I didn't like it and I had to change the settings because that's too awkward for me. But maybe other people would like that extra service. The shop itself looks mediocre clean. They use OPI, ESSI, ZOYA, and some other lesser known brands. They carry vegan nail polish, too. My service included the use of new tools for my services so it seemed like the place is hygienic. Technicians were friendly and took their time cutting cuticles. The con of this place is that they quickly polished my nails. I don't mind that they needed to clean up their messy polish but I'm annoyed that after a day (not even 24 hours) my nails are starting to chip. There aren't any tables so I got my gel manicure done on a comfy chair. Everyone was lovely and did such a great job! It was cleanly. Clean and they take their time to really clean your cuticles. Price is really good! My first mani was not that good. Cleaning was good but the nail coloring was so-so. Good thing my friend and I came back and tried them again. Yup, this is the place. My only complaint is when they get busy, they're more rushed. And not every worker is good. You gotta find the one that works for you. I've recommended this place to my other friends. It's now become a weekend morning routine for my friend and I to catch up, grab some breakfast and get our fingers and toes pretty in the neighborhood. read more

I love four season nails salon in South San Jose! So I wanted to try this place because I assumed it was owned by the same people, but it is actually not. I was able to book an appointment quickly and got a regular manicure and pedicure. Both my nails and toe nails are damaged from years of consistent gel mani and pedi. I took a 3 month break to take care of my nails and when it was finally looking ok, I decided to book a regular mani/pedi. The first thing that my nail technician did was comment on how dry my cuticles were. I didn't mind and let it go because she did a beautiful job on my manicure. Another lady worked on my pedicure and she also commented on how "ugly" my feet are and damaged my toe nails are. Same situation. Damaged from years of gel pedicure. The reason why I booked a professional mani/pedi in the first place is to correct my nail damage. She also complained the whole time she was doing my toes because they were "hard to work with from the damage" I noticed that they tend to overbook as well. As soon as the nail technician was done with my pedicure, she accommodated another client and never came back to check on me. I sat there for 30 minutes waiting for my nails to air dry and finally decided to just leave and get on with my day. I went up to the front to pay and I had to wait about 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge me and pay. Every staff was busy. I could have easily walked out, but I'm not that type of person. My manicure was ruined as soon as I walked out of the salon because they didn't have the fan and apparently 30+ minutes of air drying didn't do any justice. Rude staff and bad service. I used to get my nails done here frequently but the repeated gel removal trashed my nails. I switched a while back to Sophia's Beauty lounge but the last two times I have called they couldn't accommodate me (they are not open Sundays) I returned to four seasons for my last two gel Manis. The second time being this morning. Now I remember why I was willing to spend $40/gel mani @ Sophia's vs $25 here. Since the mani was only two weeks old and chipped, badly, by day 10, i gave them the heads up that the gel might be harder to remove and I was happy to let my nails have the removal wrap longer - salon was empty. Instead, they filed ruthlessly, including my finger near the nail. My request not to cut too short was ignored, "just making even" was the reply, and now all my nails are cut to the quick. My request to not bother with the cuticles was ignored as she used the cuticle cutter ruthlessly including the corners of my nails. I am now left with stumpy nails, rough, raw patches on the skin of my finger near my nail bed and nails that will be weak as they grow out due to the over "sanding". Note to self: call Sophia's a couple of days ahead next time. read more
