One of the all time best fish and chips I've had. Best fries anywhere, hands down. The fish was cooked fresh, lightly breaded, not greasy. Tartar sauce is homemade, more mayonnaise forward, very little pickle. I tasted enough to try it. Didn't eat the coleslaw as I just don't like southern style slaw (yes, I'm from the south). And the chowder with the jalapeno was delicious! I will recommend this place to everyone traveling to this area. I love the restaurant. It's in a trailer with a covered porch. Fish restaurant located right next to a fish market. This place truly looks like a roadside diner with a gravel parking lot and a three season indoor/outdoor porch. Actually kinda cool! It was plenty busy for being located on top of a mountain a few miles outside of town. But it was prime leaf peeping time, so I guess there were still a lot of tourists. Unfortunately due to this set up, they are only open from spring until fall (which in the Upper Peninsula might be kind of short!) You order through one window and wait for your number to be called and pick it up at different window. Many types of fish to choose from and it's prepared pretty quick. My wife and I got the same thing, Cod. Which was pretty good, but in hindsight, one of use should have gotten the Whitefish (local) so we could have tried it. Next time? Fries (chips) were good too. If I could leave more stars I would! We were in Houghton 5 days and went here multiple times. Four Suns knows how to do fish and chips well! I don't typically eat fish as it is too fishy for me, well....I ate multiple baskets of the friend whitefish with a squeeze of lemon. It was soooo good. My husband got the cod one time and the perch the others. Cod was okay, but nothing amazing. He loved the perch! Said it was super flavorful. The French friends are perfectly crisp with a soft interior and the Cole slaw is tangy and sweet with a creamy texture. We really enjoyed it! The place itself is cute with a lot of outside seating, and a few tables inside. The signs all over the walls were fun to read while eating, and made for additional conversation beyond raving about the food. We will definitely be back! read more

Fresh fried Whiting is a wonderful thing. This was ordered and it came out after about 10 minutes. It came out hot and was perfect. I had a side of their delicious slaw and a side of risotto. I like to try everybody's slaw. The risotto was an unexpected surprise. Both were excellent. This place is casual and has outdoor seating. I haven't had such good fish in years. It was exceptional. I thought I'd love this place but the food itself was a flop. Fries were not hot and had clearly been sitting around for a while. Fish was overcooked, dry, under/not seasoned, and not crisp. I think my order sat around for a while as service seemed to have a gap of time between ones before me and when mine came out. The place did have a good, casual atmosphere with indoor seating options and several outdoor tables, including several shaded spots. I enjoyed sitting outside. Definitely won't go back and don't recommend, as good atmosphere doesn't outweigh borderline bad food. read more

Came here on a Tuesday at around 5pm and there was no line. My partner ordered the deep fried perch fish basket and I got the parmesan crusted whitefish (fish only). The fries in my partner's order was amazing! I regretted not getting the fish basket too or just a side of fries. The deep fried perch was amazingly crispy, the tartar was very good (even for someone who doesn't normally like tartar), and the parmesan crusted whitefish was very tasty! We got it for takeout to eat while charging the car 10 minutes away. Even for crunch was still perfect even for doing takeout. Even on a Wednesday night, it was still lively and full of people. The young woman at the window where you order was very sweet and answered any questions I had and was patient. I appreciate how kind everyone is up in the UP. The food? Incredible. The whitefish was so fresh and flaky, it was delightful. The French fries were perfectly crispy and I could eat those non-stop. The chowder was amazing. The jalapeno immulsion added a subtle heat that was a welcome addition. There were chunks of white fish in there, and huge pieces of potato. It was a perfect chowder. The risotto wasn't something to write home about, and definitely not something Gordon Ramsay would serve in Hell's Kitchen, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Delish! I got the Singapore chili baked whitefish to be gluten free, and a side of amazing fries with bug flake salt crystals(probably cross contamination for celiac). Always one of my first stops when I'm in town. Simply delicious food and some of the best fish in the area. As far as I'm concerned the only thing you should ever get here (because it is hands down the best fish option) is the fried whitefish basket with fries. The fish is so fresh, succulent, juicy, and fried perfectly every time. The portions are very generous and you wont leave hungry. The fries are also great, perfectly salty and crisp. I always ask for honey mustard for dipping but they also have ketchup and ranch. I've tried the fish tacos as well but they were bland in comparison. You walk into the shop and order at the counter and get a number to wait for your food. On a warm sunny day you can sit outside on a bench with a great view of the Quincy Mine Hoist across the street. I also like to order it to go and take to the canal to eat with a view of the water. It tastes better than if you freshly caught it and fried it at the shoreline. I wish I could buy it at home. The fish is as fresh and delicious as it can be. They should train culinary schools how to train top chefs to cook fish. No one does it better. Caught the same day in Lake Superior. I can't describe in words how delicious it was. We were driving by and noticed this restaurant on our way to checkout the whitefish store next door. We were starving so decided to eat there instead. Oh my gosh, the deep fried whitefish basket with the sweet potato was amazing!!! This rivaled the whitefish my grandma used to make when I was little (she would fillet a whole fish and pan fry it). It was perfectly fried, the texture and flavor was spot on, and as someone who prefers vinegar for dipping I have to say this tartar sauce was the best I've ever tried. The coleslaw had a nice bite and the sweet potato was so delicious especially with the added butter and brown sugar. Plus the portions are so generous. Loved this spot for fresh Superior whitefish, fresh fries, coleslaw, and baked potatoes. The fish was as fresh as one would expect in the U.P., and the sides were perfectly done. The coleslaw was not drowning in mayonnaise, the fries were not scrawny and salty, and the baked potatoes were fabulous. Service was friendly; the atmosphere was fun. Bathrooms are not available on site, but you can walk next door to use the stalls. They have a sink outdoors to wash hands; there is a warning sign about the water: "do not drink from this fountain." I love whitefish, and I love fried fish and I have never had better than at Four Suns. Even in England! Everything is cooked fresh and is served super-crispy. The fries are great, too. Price was really reasonable. It's take out but they have plenty of casual seating open air inside and plenty of tables outside to eat at. Staff was very friendly and helpful with questions.
