    My sweet little pecan salad
    CJ G.

Stopped by for lunch today, the first visit for me however my dining companion (DC) has been here before and raving about this hidden gem in my old stomping grounds. We wanted to sit outside, so went in to look at the menu and place our order. Lots of choices regarding drinks (fancy milkshakes, fresh juices, teas coffees) but we kept it simple with a latte and peppermint tea. The choices for lunch was much harder. Lots of different items on the menu, and while we were ordering I was watching the food prep in the kitchen - it all looked so good. My DC had the sweet pecan salad - the grilled haloumi, roasted corn and avocado crusted with black & white sesame seeds blended with the other ingredients and the dressing perfectly. The lime cheek was a well chosen additive. I scored a few bites of this, will definitely be having it another time. My choice for today was the finger likin' - that's southern fried chicken with deep fried polenta fingers and the most delicious slaw. The only thing I didn't like was the sriracha hot sauce but they serve it on the side so no problem there. Easily the best fried chicken dish I've had ever. This includes my previous best of a meal I had in a little mining town in Nevada.

Prompt service and delicious menu. Large range and choice, loved the coffee and the breakfast menu.

Great food, friendly, professional service, and you get the pepper grinder ON THE TABLE (not…read morebrandished at you by the wait staff). French toast with berries, compote and marscopone was delicious (if a trifle sweet for me). Toast with poached eggs and avocado was cooked perfectly and served with the freshest lemon. Coffee was fine in terms of flavour (not "great"), but perfectly extracted and tricky soy microfoam spot on (unlike some more dedicated coffee joints around town). Best brunch all round. Also enjoyed the low-key funk/soul on the sound system today. Nice airy fit-out and decor, and plenty of outside seating

Urban Pantry is a bit of a hike for me (in Canberra terms so not really) but i enjoy going there…read morefor the unique range of brunch options and delicious looking smoothies. The smoked trout tortilla is a great, high protein way to start the day, while the sausage and egg brioche burger is a significant upgrade on what you could get at other *ahem* breakfast outlets, with crunchy and fresh tasting bread and a rather delicious onion marmalade. I haven't tried the lemon pancakes but they are on my to-try list. The meals are well presented and just right in portion size. The prices are reasonable in Canberra terms but beware the sides- I paid $3 for the mushrooms, which was literally one medium size mushroom. Be sure to make a reservation as its a popular place, and bring cash if you plan on splitting bills.
