Basically most Harvey Norman stores are set up the same. Huge entrances to the furniture department. Usually entrances are in the middle of lounges, if you go one way you will ge tmore furniture then curve round to televisions and the likes, go the other way and get beds and bedding. I have managed to grab some fantastic bargains on some great pillows here actually. Heaps better quality than at department stores and they lasted heaps longer. The Electrical and Computers are usually in a separate section at the rear or one side of the store, with electrical left of the spearate entrance to this area and computer, mobiles phones, camera's, PC software, etc to the right of the registers. I have never purchased nay major electrical items from this store but have bought some really good computer equipment here. Including a fantastic Acer laptop. It was already out so cheap and had a cah back offer making it even cheaper in the end. I have always received good service here and been given some great advice from people who obviously know their products. Getting the service is the hardest part - they are usually really busy, more so in computers and electrical departments, and it may take a little wait before someone is available to help you. However once you have someone their service is usually very good, I have never had an issue with a staff member at any Harvey Norman store.

But I find that you're paying for it when you buy stuff here. That's why they bitch and moan about online shopping. You'll get exactly the same thing and pay less than half the cost in many situations. I haven't ever bought furniture at Hardly Normal's, just because if I'm paying that much, it'll be from a premium store, not this place, or any of the others. I do feel a bit sorry for those that have to buy their computers here. Seriously, go to MSY, buy the parts, and learn to do it yourself. You'll end up with a new skill, a computer that costs literally half the price (or less), and everyone will tell you you're awesome. Which is what I can't tell this place.

It is actually two shops with one entrance and opened up in the middle. And it is jam packed all the way to the ceilings. Not a great place for kids to be running around inside. They have a massive range of model kits and accessories for all sorts of stuff like aeroplanes, buggies, earthmovers, trains and helicopters. I like going to shops like this occasionally when I need a present for someone and have no idea what to get. You can always find odd things in stores like this and little extra's that you would not find at other stores, therefore your gift is always unique.

The staff are friendly and are well versed on different models and collectors items. While the store may only be small, it is certainly packed from wall to wall. Pricing wise, it is obviously a tad expensive however there are very few model shows around these days so I guess supply and demand comes into play with this. The store has somewhat unusual trading hours, so it is always good to check before you go. Also, it also helps if you do your homework beforehand and actually get model numbers and details, as this can really help with finding the parts you need. From past experience, I have been able to find what I need on at least four occasions of being there, even though that was several years ago, which was quite promising.

First, the newsagent - I come here usually for stationery bits and pieces, for also for printer cartridges - they are seriously cheaper than anywhere else I have visited! I buy Canon cartridges, and they are at least $3-$5 cheaper than larger supermarket chains - excellent value! Staff are friendly, and there is a good selection of stationery and magazines. A good all-round newsagency! Now ... the reason I've given a total of 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 - the Australia Post section is terrible. Rude staff, who did the whole 'looking me up and down and grimacing' routine before serving me ... oh, that was before they had a chat and made me wait before looking up. I would rather drive out of my way and visit a friendlier Australia Post outlet - hopefully this couple retire soon :P

You've also got the standard SA Lotteries part, stocking my personal fave the $1 scratchies. As well there is a small Australia Post branch, which makes it very handy to mail your bits and pieces almost as soon as you've purchased them. There are only ever a couple post staff on though so there's often a line. On top of all this they also offer a dry cleaning service, and the bonus of extended trading hours on weekdays. In a nutshell - a damn good newsagent!

Even if not all the stock are on the shelves, there is a ridiculously good variety for such a tiny store. Even the big $2 shops don't carry as much variety in home and garden with garden twisty ties, bike lights, party wares, an isle of Australiana themed adornments and a cheap art materials. Service is friendly without being persistent, and they'll often bargain or throw extra things into the bag with you if you're willing to get your bartering shoes on. With easy parking and an incredible range here, you can get it "cheap enough" to warrant a visit on any day of the week. BIGGEST DOWNFALL? These guys can't do refunds "unless the manager of the shop is around." When will the manager be back? "Oh well you know, he comes in and out, we never really know when he'll be in, he's only around once a week or so." ie. They don't do refunds or exchange so make sure you definitely need what you are buying.

It has a medium-sized range of home wares, decorations, kitchen ware, garden tools, toys, toiletries, hardware and clothes. The prices are cheap - obviously. While there isn't a huge range here, they do carry a few things I haven't seen at Super Dollar Variety. Last winter they had a great range of coloured socks, beanies and fingerless gloves for very cheap. Their garden stuff isn't bad either - a few months ago I bought some seeds from here that have just yielded a little crop of fresh peas. My favourite thing to pick up here though is fluroescent paint. That might be a bit obscure, but they have the most amazing coloured flurorescent paint at Get It Cheap!

While not as big as Dillon's Newsagent just across the mall (near Coles), they stock all the usual suspects. If you're after your Vogue or Elle or Frankie or other big titles you will find in on their shelves. I couldn't see many overseas titles. I've found the staff to be pretty chatty and kinda funny. Last time I went in to get Harper's (with the winner of ANTM on the cover) for a friend overseas, I ended up chatting to the guy about Australia's Next Top Model for ages...which I don't actually watch, but I winged it pretty well! Good for your basics!

You never know. There are books available here too, last time I visited I spent a good 10 minutes leafing through a book about the life and designs of Coco Chanel, of course I didn't buy it because it was $50, besides, I'd already read it hadn't I? If I need a pen I just go in and use one and then leave, they should really monitor people like me! But, considering these guys don't, that makes them 3 stars in my book! The first, and in my opinion major piece representins an imaginative dreamscape with bright colours, crazy critters, fluid lines and bold lettering. The secondary piece is more rigid and based in linear design, constructed from an abstraction of green and white. It features a photographic stenciling as a centrepiece. Whilst both are strong works, they are slightly commercial in nature (the primary piece having a small advertisment in the top corner for stores upon Ebenezer place) and not hugely innovative. Regardless a welcome addition to Adelaide's public art.

PROS: The legalised street art on the brick wall just off of Ebenezer Place totally makes sense…read morewith the whole vibe of the alleyway, which has def seen a renaissance of sorts over the last few years. It's also a rad spot for a piece: this is the locale for the Friday night lates that are held over summer in the East End, with short flicks, stalls etc bringing the place to life. CONS: While I totally enjoy the work of the Everfresh crew *fist bumps*, I'd love to see something by an SA artist/ crew, rather than Melbournians. After living in Melbourne for 2 years I respect the fact that Melbourne own the street art thing in Oz, but rather than emulate what they already do so very very well, it'd be great to see a style distinctly Adelaidean up on the wall!

Ok... I am going to do it. I am going to review IKEA…read more So, it is hard to describe my relationship with IKEA. I remember when this place first opened. I actually did not know a whole much about IKEA. The brand was very foreign to me. I heard of it, but was unfamiliar with it's scale. Like the rest of Adelaide, I had to check it out. All new, shiny and plastic. Oh yes, walking through the maze that is IKEA was quite wonderful. I then started to notice something. It is not only the deisgn of their products that make IKEA successful, it is also the design of their stores. Do you ever find that when you go to IKEA you end up taking home a shoe horn, dish brush and a new mirror that you don't need? You end up having to go fetch your car to drive into the bay to load it full of stuff with a $2 icecream in your hand. I am always left saying huh? How did that happen? Over the years IKEA's appeal went downhill for me. I have had furniture and items break. What I have always been impressed with is the 3 month return policy. So, if you are not happy you can take it back for store credit. That is a plus. What do I usually get in this store now? Water glasses, plastic tubs, glass jars, curtains and maybe linen. That suits me fine. Every now and then I might get a decoration of some sort, but I have to really like it. I recommend IKEA if you are on a budget. It was awesome while I was at Uni. Try and look for the solid wood furniture if you can. They last a lot longer than the chipboard stuff. It's great that they have started to use solid pine now! Also, here is my HOT TIP: If you want to get furniture from IKEA and want it to look a little special and not just from the catalog, check out a website called IKEA Hacks. It is full of ideas for turning IKEA products into something really cool and unique. Also, don't feel like you have to use their door knobs and hinges, you can get cool antique ones from thrift stores or salvage places to make the furniture look more funky!

Crossley has been selling her stock for over a year, and the blown glass beads and pearl pieces make an interesting contrast to the enormous body of the building, with picture frames and prints covering large work tables. The jewelry is large yet elegant and ranges from casual glamour to pieces suitable for a mother of the bride. The prices are reasonable, ranging from $15 for smaller, simpler pieces up to $100 for the better quality. Nothing is overly expensive, but it all looks like quality without screaming expensive. The framing part of the shop sells a wide range of realistic and traditional art prints, many on an Australian landscape theme. There are also many large wall mirrors in classy frames.
