Pretty great restaurant that Ive been waiting to try. I remembered a few years ago I came across a youtube video that showed their showstopper duck and completely forgot about this restaurant until I happened to see its name again. Of course I had to come for the duck, which, as advertised, is the star of the show. I also tried the duck mortadella (delicious), the bomboloni (must get), lobster ravioli (could potentially live without it), and the agnolotti (yum). The ambiance is great but the restaurant does get a bit noisy during their peak hours. Another thing to mention, I did come for a special occasion which the restaurant was aware about, and not that its a requirement but I thought they would do something special for occasions. Would have at least appreciated a card ,and most michelin restaurants do also give you some dessert on the house but that was just something I noticed. read more

Overall wonderful experience, my first Michelin star experience. The crown of duck was a little oversalted on the skin level, but the whipped parsnip side dish with apple was wonderful in balancing the saltiness. The Canard au Citron (an elevated lemon meringue shaped like a duck) had this wonderful crunch/crisp shortbread base with a flavored sorbet to make the dessert nice a cool. My favorite bite of the night was the sweet corn bombolini - burst of sweet corn cream flavor in the center. Roman sourdough was delicious with the accompanied lard and sunflower spread. My wife and two teenage sons visited NYC for a week from Chicago to celebrate my wife's birthday. We chose Francie for her birthday dinner and were blown away by the food and hospitality. We ordered the Roman army sourdough, market salad, carpaccio, a couple of pastas, and the cote de boeuf. Everything looked and tasted so amazing that my teens barely spoke a word during dinner. For dessert, we shared the chocolate brownie pie, canard au citron, and strawberry shortcake. Everyone was happy and full and most importantly - my wife absolutely loved it. Pastas are all really good--housemade pasta is cooked right and sauces are all tasty. Pass on the dessert--both of ours were fail. Warm sourdough bread is served with 2 spreads and a nice rustic presentation with the string and pig-shaped butter. Crudités ($13) is super colorful and served with a tasty onion dip. Soufflé bread/cake with caviar & seaweed butter was light and yummy. So, our waiter suggested to eat family style for our party of 6. We ordered a number of pasta dishes and 2 of the fish main entrees. The pasta dishes are on the very small side, so I'd recommend each ordering 1 pasta dish and sharing only the entrees--otherwise, you end up getting just 1-2 bites of each pasta, which is enough for a taste but quite silly to share this way. The fish entree was really good, cooked nicely and the sauce and other accompaniments were tasty and went very well together. Dessert was SUPER disappointing, especially after all the yummy food! Our waiter recommended 2 of the desserts we ordered, including the brown butter cake and carrot cake, since they were shaped as a rubber ducky and a snowman. Cute desserts? I was all for it. Until I tasted them. HUGE disappointment, as they were completely one note and heavy on the yuzu and citrus sour notes. We were expecting cake as per the menu description, and yet each dessert had a mere 2 total bites of cake hidden under the multiple sour creams and whatnot. If it wasn't for actual carrot shreds in the tiny carrot cake we found, we'd also have no way of telling apart the two desserts since they tasted the same--sour. Maybe the sourness killed our taste buds. Very disappointing. I informed our waiter that we thought the food was great but the desserts horrible and he simply thanked me for the honest feedback. And that was it. Not the customer service I'd expect from a Michelin starred restaurant, particularly after sharing a glass of the very nice wine we brought with the sommelier. Also corkage is a whopping $90, which is the highest I've seen anywhere. If only we had passed on dessert, this would have been an easy 5 stars. I was here for dinner with some friends on a Tuesday evening. The space isn't very big but not crowded either. Our service was also a bit slow when ordering but was better once our food came out. We started with the Souffle Cakes which were soft, fluffy and a little tangy but very tiny in size and the seaweed butter with the caviar was good. For pasta, we were recommended the Conchiglie which was very flavorful and not overpowered by the taste of clams. We also had the Agnolotti which was a personal favorite. Each bite was a burst of flavor in my mouth! Unfortunately the portion sizes were once again very, very small. Of course we also had to try the Dry Aged Crown of Duck which truly is worth the hype! Upon stepping into Francie, I was drawn in by the ambiance/interior. There's a complimentary coat check upon entry. The staff and service at Francie is very attentive and accommodating and the entire experience did not feel rushed at all. My friends and I came to Francie primarily for their duck dish ($152) which is designed to be shared. There was 7 of us so we also got the lamb entree (Delicious but only 3 pcs at $52), 4 pastas, the sourdough, and two appetizers to share; we each also ordered a cocktail as well. For dessert we ordered all 4 desserts plus two additional scoops of Thai Ice Cream. While the portion size of each dish left more to be desired, coming with a group was the best way to try a bunch of items on the menu and we all left satiated. Francie is a great spot and deserves its Michelin star given the food quality, which was consistently excellent. The duck was incredibly impressive, both in taste and appearance. I really appreciate Francie showing the duck before it was sliced. The sides that came with it were also excellent additions. I also thoroughly enjoyed the pasta and desserts. Service was good as well, especially from the sommelier, Beau. He was very helpful and charming. My only less than positive feedback is the portions for plates intended to be shared. We had issues with this because we were a party of 5, so it's not a major issue. But the salad was comically small for the table and the number of pieces for other dishes did not fit our party. I suggest being able to adjust the number of pieces for some plates (with a fair price adjustment of course) or revisiting whether these ought to be shared. We would have also greatly appreciated a prix fix menu rather performing than the difficult task of picking which dishes look good for our diverse group to share and being left wanting more or something different. I would gladly come back with just my wife and I and recommend Francie as date night to anyone. But as a group dining experience, it left something to be desired. read more

This place really blew me out of the water! We came as a large group for a friend's birthday celebration. To start with cocktails, I had The Avenue which was very alcohol-forward as well as the Bees Knees which was sweeter if that's your thing. I had Conchiglie as my main which had a decent serving size. It came out a bit green and you can taste the nuttiness from the sesame which was interesting. I had a friend who got the lobster ravioli which was divine but only comes out to 3 pieces so beware. We also got the duck to share among 7 of us and this was the scene stealer! The duck was perfect cooked and so juicy! I also could not get enough of the radish side dish which almost tasted like a creamy mashed potato. Unfortunately splitting it among so many people meant each of us got 4-5 slices of duck total, but it was so delicious! Then we finished off with a desert. We were a little dissapointed at first as the dessert menu seemed to be mainly ice cream-based, we even asked if they had a souffle but they only have their savory appetizer version. I was very excited to book Francie on restaurant week this year. Even though my reservation was on a Monday night at the bar, the service was very attentive and friendly. I was a bit disappointed that we could not be given a table as I saw a lot of open ones throughout my meal. The oysters were good! And I loved my cocktail - Fino-nino Collin? The salad appetizer was very small, tasty dressing though? The fried artichoke was a surprise. I love artichokes and prior to today I've only had them steamed. The pasta was very good - fresh, cooked perfectly and served with a really nice sauce sprinkled with coarse grated cheese. The fish and chips had a great crunch to the fish. The tartar sauce was tasty. The fries were a bit tasteless though. The ambiance? Well it's a lovely restaurant. It was a bit drafty by the bar and I was seated right by the dish collection tub. All-in- all my curiosity was satisfied. I had a fun night although I really wanted to be blown away . . . but just was not. I guess I should have tried the duck? This is a great restaurant whether you're grabbing a casual dinner with friends or you're celebrating a birthday. We met up with friends who visited from out of town and they absolutely enjoyed every single course we ordered. We started with carpaccio, which was a good blend of flavors. This place has a very unique flavor profile, and I'm here for it. I feel like I've never truly tasted anything like this before. For appetizers, we got the souffle cakes and Roman army sourdough. The souffle cakes surprised me because I thought they were going to be extremely sweet but it was more savory. The sourdough was also very good bread, and the butter was divine. For pastas, we got the duck pappardelle and it was very different from any duck pappardelle I've had. This one was more meaty? But not in a gamey way. We also got the agnolotti and it was in this creamy cheese sauce. But it didn't taste like cheese, it was saucy and reminiscent of heavy cream but savory. These pastas were so different than your average pastas. Finally, we got the duck. The duck wasn't my favorite surprisingly! I usually like a more rare meat, but the rareness of the duck was a bit gamey for me. The flavor is still there though but if you are sensitive to gameyness, I'd tread with caution. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant and I'm not sure what my rating should be. First of all I was super excited to come to this place and it was on my list for a while. Let's focus on the negatives, this made me what to give this place 0 or minus stars. So my friend is coming all the way from Long Island to come try out this place. We have a reservation at 7.30pm and her train gets cancelled! She got there super early and this rarely happens! The LIRR doesnt get cancelled often! So I call the restaurant requesting if they will move us to 8pm and the women on the phone says she can't do it and the only reservation she has she 9.30pm. I tell her our situation and plead with her, 9.30pm is too late and request her if she can give us a grace period of 30 minutes or to move the reservation. She firmly says no. So I ask her if she can cancel it and if she does will I incur the cancellation fee. And she says yeah obviously you have to pay the fee. This is truly not fair. Am I unreasonable? All Im asking is to help me or be flexible in any way. My friend is trying her best to get there as soon as possible and yes things happen. The restaurant fee is to make sure guests dont flake. We are not flaking. The woman tells me to take it or leave it but they will charge me. I ask her what option do I have. Then I tell her I'll be there early and if that is okay. She says yeah at least one person from the table shows up and they won't take our reservation. She could have given this suggestion during the 10 minute call but no. She wanted to make it hard for me. So I go to the restaurant at 6.30pm, the receptionist doesnt seat me on my table but on the bar. Which is understandable. I tell her my friend will be late, she says thats fine but my table is available only till 9pm and we have to leave after that. So demanding this place is I thought to myself. Then the bartenders treatment towards me. Don't get me started. She purposely gives me the menu and doesnt give me the happy hour menu because yeah why would you? You should treat me poorly. Then I got a wine, and the guys next to me were drinking and having a blast. The bartender flirts with them and smiles and goes "Guys we still have 10 minutes more for Happy hour, would you like a last round". Seriously? I come here 30 minutes before HH ends and you dont offer me the HH menu but to those guys 10 minutes before you give them a heads up. I was pissed. So I call her and tell her I overheard her about HH and if I can see the menu. She gives me the menu and walks away and makes sure to ignore me for the 10 minutes. I call her and wave to make sure Im noticed and get my HH drink! But overall this treatment was awful and disrespectful. My table was a paying customer and we spent a lot, you shouldn't be treating me or any customer like this. Minus stars for this. Anyway, my friend came by cab and was on time at 7.30pm. We got seated. Our waiter was amazing. He was attentive and super nice. This changed my mood. He didn't rush us, he was open about the menu and everything. We had the duck and it was delicious. Even the dessert was so good. And we had a lot of martinis! We were anxious that they will kick us out at 9 so we finished our drink by 8.45pm. The waiter saw us at 9pm and asked if we would like another drink. I asked him if we should leave since it's 9, he was surprised and told me we can stay as long as we want and got us our drink. When he was leaving he said goodbye and let his colleague take care of us! He was amazing and a true professional. The 3 stars was for his service and the food. Francie was a total disaster, especially for a night that was supposed to matter. We went for our 10-year wedding anniversary and made multiple calls beforehand to let them know. They didn't care. Gramercy makes you feel valued. Every staff member acknowledges special occasions, with warmth, generosity, and actual care. At Francie, we got nothing. Francie is sterile, joyless, and full of itself. It's Williamsburg in a nutshell, pretentious and hollow. If you want to throw away a milestone evening, go to Francie. Overall a nice meal, we tried a few cocktails which were good before moving to the dining room for dinner. Standouts were the foie canelé, the shrimp with gribiche, and the halibut. Other dishes were good not great - the corn and truffle bombolini, the souffle pancakes with caviar, and the mushrooms which is a new dish (they're still working on it). Least favorite courses were the pastas - we tried the clam conchiglie and the lobster ravioli. the conchiglie was mostly bacon in flavor with very little clam coming through other than some strips mixed in. Pasta itself was cooked well. The ravioli was watery overall and lacking any lobster flavor, the sauce was ok but wanted it to be a lot more rich to cover up the watery inside of the pasta. Main issue with Francie was the pacing. They didn't appear to be understaffed, but everything after the first few bites was extremely slow. Looking around, everyone was in a similar spot with nothing on their table. The break between our apps and the pastas was 40 minutes, and the time between pasta and entrees was 30, which is way too long at a restaurant of this caliber. They didn't acknowledge any of this and also weren't good about refilling water glasses or taking additional drink orders while we sat. read more

Francie is phenomenal. It deserves a little more love from the NY dining scene. However, the fact that it's not overhyped makes securing a table here fairly easy. Located in a beautiful building in Williamsburg the ornate yet casual dining room offers excellent French inspired fare. The service is perfect, not overbearing yet attentive at the right moments of a meal. On our visit we had; Roman Army Sourdough - an excellent freshly baked sourdough. Served with butter and a sunflower spread. Soufflé Cakes - these are mini soufflé cakes served with a seaweed butter and caviar. The butter had a strong taste at first, but it paired nicely with the slightly sweet soufflé cakes. Our only complaint is we wish the portion was larger. Duck Pithivier - a puff pastry with a delicious duck filling. This was excellent. A must get starter. Agnolotti - a very pretty pasta filled with short rib. Francie does pasta really well and the Agnolotti is top notch. Generous portion. Conchiglie - the agnolotti was great but this shell pasta was another level. Served with clams and pieces of bacon this filling pasta was our favorite dish of the meal. Colorado Lamb - the lamb was excellent, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Side Of Fries - the fries were top notch. If you're looking for a side you can't go wrong ordering these. Francie is a must visit restaurant and well deserving of its Michelin star. read more

Francie was fantastic. Every dish delivered on both flavor and creativity, but a few truly stood out. I enjoyed the English pea bomboloni. There was an earthiness that grounded the dish, but as it melted in your mouth, a gentle sweetness came through that made it unexpectedly delicate. I'm typically not a foie gras person because I usually find it has a metallic taste, but the foie gras canelé was honestly game changing. The combination was almost buttery and creamy, and it elevated the caramel and sweetness of the pastry in such a smooth and elegant way. The conchiglie was a solid and satisfying dish though I wish the portion was just a bit larger since it left me wanting more in the best way. The soufflé pancake was light and fluffy, not overwhelmingly seaweed forward. The salt from the caviar actually brought out more of the seaweed flavor right before the cake dissolved in a well-balanced bite. The star of tonight was not surprisingly, the duck. Perfectly tender with crisp skin and just the right amount of fattiness. It was not overly juicy but had incredible depth of flavor in every bite. It came with three sides, and each one changed the flavor profile of the duck in a unique way. That alone made the dish feel exciting throughout its entire course. The chef recommends it to be cooked a medium rare but we had ordered the medium and felt it was perfect to our liking. The texture and flavor felt just right. Of course that comes down to personal preference, but we would not have it any other way. I initially compared the duck to Peking duck. The crisp skin and richness are somewhat similar, but as I worked through the sides, it became a completely different experience. This dish offers a more layered and evolving way of enjoying duck. Both are excellent in their own right, just very different in approach and style. Overall highly recommend and if you're looking for a value-driven dinner, they currently offer a prix fixe menu from Monday--Thursdays that includes the duck and two appetizers. Four of us had dinner on a Monday night. Place was full. Started with the Granny Smith apple martini. Perfect. Then we had the sweet corn bomboloni which was a surprising burst of flavor; delicious. The Bottoni pasta was as tasty as it was visually appealing. It was also a great dish to share. Got the dry aged crown of Rohan duck and now I am ruined forever. Absolutely the best duck I ever had. I will dream about it. I will return to get it again!!! Had the French fries with it too and they were the perfect crunch. The pina colada sundae was refreshing and I may copy that idea for a future dinner party. How cute is that locker type key with a duck in order to pick up your leftovers?? read more

My friend and I came here on an early Saturday night. We had reservations for 6pm but arrived at 5:30 and they were very accommodating and seated us right away. There were multiple things we wanted to try so even though we know the 2 of us won't be able to finish the food, we still ordered every dish that popped out to us. We started off with their oysters. They were fresh but I just personally like the west coast oysters that's sweet and creamy so they were just ok for me. The soufflé cakes was one of the reason that drew us to this restaurant and we were both a little disappointed in which I thought the cakes were not airy enough. It was also a little too heavy so it would have been nice to have less flour and more egg whites. The seaweed butter was unique however, we both felt it was a little too heavy when paired with the cakes. The description said there's green Meyer lemons but I couldn't taste any. The caviar also didn't add much to the dish other than more salt. It sounded amazing but was not able to properly execute it. The foie gras canelé was divine. It literally hits multiple taste buds at the same time. There was a little bit of bitterness from the earl gray, pinch of sweetness from the carmelized crust, some acid from the prunes and savory from the foie gras mousses. It's crunchy on the outside, creamy and smooth on the inside and balanced well with the acidity from the prune purée so it doesn't feel too heavy. This was our favorite dish for the evening. We then moved onto their famous dry aged crown of duck. They first present it nicely with it surrounded and stuffed with flowers. After they let you take a photo, they brought it back and sliced it for us. They give you the whole duck so I would say it would be nice to share between 3-4 people. The skin was crispy, the meat was tender and juicy and we both enjoyed it very much along with the side dishes. For desserts, we ordered the pavlova and canard Au citron. Both of us agreed that the pavlova was the winner. The flavors were well balanced between the honeydew and yuzu where it was refreshing without being overly sweet or sour. The frozen yogurt added a touch of creaminess without being too heavy as compared to ice cream. The citrus duck however was a huge disappointment. Although it sounded good and was aesthetically pleasing, it was overly sour. Although it tasted better when paired with the brown butter but there was very little of it and the lemon was too overpowering. We could also hardly taste the cheese foam. Overall, this is a very cozy and cute restaurant. Some of the dishes were solid but some were a miss. I see some people (table of 2) just order the duck without anything else and we thought that was a very smart move as that is more than enough food for 2. Francie really knocks it out of the park with flavor. Every dish was absolutely delicious, with some being the truly exceptional. The honeynut squash bomboloni was absolutely stuffed with smooth squash puree and topped with savory crispy bits. The foie gras canele was among the best foie gras compositions I've ever had. Perfect balance of savory and sweet with a textbook textured canele. The market salad was my favorite savory dish. So many different techniques used to make the autumnal veggies sing. Great textures! The hamachi was surprisingly good. Smoked hamachi with pumpkin sauerkraut and paper thin pumpernickel toast/tuile, this ate very fresh and yet still rich in flavor. The suckling pig pasta has beautifully layered colored pasta and sat in an addicting bitter (in a good way) rapini sauce. To drink, I asked for the appletini to be made nonalcoholic, and Francine delivered a fantastic apple mocktail. The Granny Smith juice made it taste like a sour jolly rancher. Very refreshing! I got two desserts. The ants on a log was delicious and nostalgic and I especially loved the celery leaf tuile. The best dessert, however, was the hot chocolate mousse. This was possibly the best chocolate dessert I've ever had. The warm chocolate mousse worked perfectly with the warm chocolate spins covering devils food cake and red pepper ima. Variety of textures. The tuile was gossamer thin and the bourbon barrel ice cream contrasted perfectly with the warm chocolate flavors. A stunning dessert. There are alot of Pasta restaurants opening all over the city but Francie has a Michelin Star. The food is very good but my only co.plaint would be the pastas are a bit on the salty side. Other than that they were very tasty. A suggestion is to start with a couple of Appetizers and 3 pastas. The pastas are on the smaller side so it's good to get three to share. Francie is a Michelin one star restaurant in Williamsburg. The star of the show is obviously the duck and the reason I came. The service and experience were really nice. They take in and check your coat and bags if you want and then the rest of the service was really nice. The ambiance is very simple. Not too loud but not quiet either. Easy conversation volume. No free bread but the sourdough is quite nice. Agnolotti is like a gnocchi so keep that in mind if you go that route. The duck and the sauce and other things accompanying it are really good. The combination is all quite lovely. Each element is good on its own but they complement each other well. Note that the duck is made medium rare which works out well actually. I usually prefer things medium but the temp it was cooked at was ideal. The edges are crispier and were my favorite part of the duck for sure. read more

The food is good. Even the more pedestrian ingredients are used with care. The presentation is considered, just like the preparation. The portions are reasonable. Do get an early reservation if you want a quieter time. They try to space out the seating, but if you arrive at a later time during Restaurant Week, say, be ready to share personal space and go without too much introduction of each course.
