On the weekend there are art shows, dance shows, and concerts. I recommend looking at the event calendar on their website. I usually come for the dance shows or concerts on the weekend. I recently went to the Antes de Partir contemporary dance show and we were given wine and an opportunity to speak to the dancers and choreographer. This has been the case with many of their performances. There is also a nice grass area for sports or lounging in the sun. Also, the shows and events usually run less than $5 USD!

After spending the day at Lapostolle, we wanted to squeeze in a second winery and decided to try our luck and just show up at Viu Manent. It was just past 4:30 pm and we asked if we could do a tasting and were told that there were no more tastings at that hour, but to hold on a second and they would double check. We perused the gift shop for a few minutes before they invited us to the back bar for a private tasting session. I really appreciated them accommodating us and not being such sticklers about our lack of reservation like some places in Napa can be. Being just the two of us, it was a very personal tasting, and the wines and their history were explained to us very fully. I just regret that I did not love any of them. When asked to choose my favorite and describe it in one word, I had a difficult time as I did not have a clear favorite. It may just be personal preference as I know that their wine is very popular. The grounds are lovely and they offer cool things like horse drawn carriage tours and wine pairing lunches for those that have more time. Four stars for the great service and lovely property.

Bahia Utopica features the best artists of Valparaiso: painters, sculpturers, photographs... They also organize regularly exhibitions at their own gallery and at hotels, cultural centers, etc. I purchased a couple of paintings at their gallery (one in 2008, the second one this year) and would do it more often if I had the money to do so. By the way, the owner speaks French, German, and a bit of English.
