Captain Henry served in the Civil War as a member of General Stonewall Jackson's artillery. After the war Henry moved to Bentonville where he helped build Bentonville's first steam railway and served as a Treasurer for Benton County. The Henry House is built in the Italianate style and the main façade has been unaltered since construction. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988." It is a two-story brick structure with Italianate architectural details like trusses in the front-facing gable, a scrollwork balustrade on the main porch, and scrolled brackets on the hood over a side entrance. This 1890 construction is a good example of the late Italianate style brick homes that were constructed in Bentonville in large quantities between 1870 and 1895. Can you imagine? Now the Massey Hotel (though not actually a hotel today), the building is listed on the Register of Historic Places. The marker denotes this little tidbit of Arkansas history: Prior to the construction of the Massey Hotel, the ca. 1840 wood-frame Eagle Hotel was located on this site. Union General Franz Sigel and some of his men were staying at the Eagle Hotel and had just ordered breakfast on March 6, 1862, when staff reported that the Confederate Army was approaching town. Sigel had to leave his meal unfinished. The armies met the following day at the Battle of Pea Ridge. General Sigel returned to Bentonville about 25 years later and remarked that he had come back to finish his breakfast.

Their mission was to honor all veterans from any conflict or war from 1776 to the present. This monument is not dedicated to any particular service or conflict, but all. There is a directory available at the wall, listing all veterans names and the location of their plaques. It is inside the memorial on the podium. Beautifully constructed memorial for a great place to honor those who have served and reflect on our thoughts!

We had 3 children under 2 in our group and were so pleased to find things they could enjoy at this age. They have two specific toddler play areas that are for children ages 2 and below, plus another section for children ages 6 and below. It was so nice having them play in these areas without getting overrun by bigger kids! You could easily spend all day in this museum because there are endless activities and things to see. The museum is very clean, well organized, and spacious. I can't wait to bring my daughter back in future years so she can enjoy even more aspects of the museum!

Art has a built in haughtiness but this is more digestible to everyone. The Getty Museum as gorgeous as the grounds are - left this plebeian wanting on its exhibits. First…read morestop was @monah_nwa which is a small but very well curated museum of Native American history- much was from tribes and people of this area of North America, but it also included beautiful and well-preserved artifacts from indigenous people of North and South America. Admission is whatever you choose to donate. My teens participated in the arrowhead "dig" in the area around the teepee out front...they got to keep one of the arrowheads they "discovered" and then purchased the rest with some mad cash from their grandma! You need about 2-3 hours to make your way through the entire museum and get the gist, and a bit more than 3 hours if you want to listen about each numbered artifact with the provided sound wand. I'm so glad we stopped for the morning!
