While on vacation in Louisiana last month (from California). My family and I made a point to visit this courthouse. We visited the courthouse to conduct genealogy research. During our time at the courthouse I found my 2nd great-grandparents marriage license. I also found my great-grandparents marriage license from 1914. This marriage licensed listed Oaklawn Manor (plantation) as my maternal great-grandmother residence at the time of her marriage (1914). She was 19 years old. My family and I was also able to visit Oaklawn Manor while on our vacation (which turned out to be a disappointment). In any event, the staff at the courthouse were very friendly and helpful. They helped make copies of the records and provided directions to Oaklawn Manor. I can't wait to revisit the courthouse the next time that I am in Louisiana, to do more research. read more
