There is a reason why Dr Dao has five stars on Yelp. There are no words to describe him other than to give him the five stars and call it day. Dr Dao has been my gyno since the early 2000s. I first met him at Kalihi Palama clinic when I was poor college student needing birth control. Over the years I went to his office at Honolulu Medical group and now to his current office at POB2. Dr Dao is always cheerful and I always tell him his personality reminds me of a game show host, but he's also very professional and takes the time to answer all your questions and explain things. Some women prefer women gynos, but Dr Dao never makes you feel uncomfortable even though he's a dude. I trust him more than some family members. All these years I went in for my annual pap until I got pregnant last year. Due to my high risk pregnancy, I'd see Dr Dao quite often and he'd always take the time to alleviate my concerns and get some laughs in between. When I went into labor and was ready to deliver, there were some issues, but Dr Dao throughly explained everything and reassured me it would be ok. Sure enough, he delivered my bundle of joy safe and sound. I recommend Dr Dao to anyone looking for a OB/Gyno. read more

How do you put a star value on someone who safely delivered a beautiful baby to you through a difficult/dangerous birth? It's impossible. I trust Dr. Dao with my life. Originally I only saw him once a year for routine paps and had no real opinion of him beyond, "he's nice enough". When I got pregnant I was even considering changing obs because I really wanted someone I could trust, someone who was knowledgeable and who would answer all my questions and listen to my concerns, and who would genuinely care about me and my baby. Good thing I didn't switch because Dr Dao is that person above and beyond! Towards the end of my pregnancy, I became high risk with gestational hypertension and the birth was difficult to say the least, but never once did I feel pressured into something I didn't want to do and I always felt that Dr. Dao had my best interests at heart. He ended up delivering my little one via c section, and though he told me the risks and knew my fears, he brought us both through effortlessly. I owe my health and my baby to him and am so glad that I was in his hands during that time. If anyone needs a recommendation for a kind, caring, smart dr who knows how to listen and won't rush you, I would refer them to Dr. Dao 100x over. Best doctor ever! read more

Dr. Dao is such a wonderful doctor. I feel like the OB is easily one of the last places a woman wants to be but Dr. Dao is wonderful. My previous OB retired and was in the same office; initially I saw Dr. Yoshino but his bedside manner wasn't spectacular. I saw Dr. Dao one day because Yoshino had to deliver a baby at the time I came in for my appointment; I sneakily called back and asked if I could continue to see Dr. Dao going forward and was ecstatic when I was told I could. Dr. Dao is incredibly friendly and I felt comfortable with him as soon as I met him. I began seeing my first OB when I was about seventeen or so and I eventually grew to be comfortable with him. I was not at all comfortable with Dr. Yoshino. I really did feel comfortable with Dr. Dao right after he extended his hand to shake mine when he walked into the room. He explains things well and wants to make sure his patients understand what's going on (I'd been seeing him shortly after getting an IUD, so I had lots of follow-up questions), and the way he speaks is welcoming and respectful. I've been a patient of Dr. Dao's for about 9 years and he has consistently provided kind, considerate and great care. He delivered my three youngest children and was always available to answer all of my questions and calmed me whenever I got myself worked up about various pregnancy worries. Dr. Dao is hands down the best doctor! I've been with him for several years. In my opinion he is more caring than my previous female gynecologist, and shown interest in my concerns of having PCOS. I've recently undergone emergent surgery due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Dr. Dao immediately came to my rescue at QMC, and performed a salpingectomy. Franklin Dao is great but his receptionist or Nurse Emi couldn't even get back to me about test results in a timely manner. Called repeatedly for 2 hours to speak with her, the first three times she was on a call and the 4th time she was in the bathroom and the receptionist repeatedly said that she would call back before the 5pm closing. Sure enough called back again at 5pm and my call went straight to the answering machine. I'm in healthcare also and I couldn't believe that they treat their patients like this especially when it comes to very important health matters. Unacceptable! read more

I have been searching for a good OB doctor and I found Dr Dao. Thanks to YELP. I only look for 5 stars and a good reviews. Not only because of Yelp the reason why I went to this doctor. It's because one of our patient at work also seeing this doctor. I asked about how good is this doctor? She told me that she's been going since she had her 1st child until her 6th child. So I decided to give this doctor a try. I went in for an appointment and in deed he's good. He answered my unanswered questions from my previous OB at Kaiser. He is very professional, very nice and welcoming. He makes you feel comfortable. He takes the time to call you and explain about your your results. Been with Dr. Dao for the last year for prenatal and postpartum. He is very pleasant, friendly and generally a good doctor. Always had multiple options for me- whether it be do ultra sounds, tests or meds. Easy to get an appt, reception desk is very nice however his nurse is not very friendly. He will answer phone calls/messages you leave same day and will call in prescriptions if need be without you having to come in for an appt. He never stressed me out about my weight gain which was nice. He can sometimes be dismissive though with concerns I had during my pregnancy- that can be kind of annoying when you are pregnant and have legitimate concerns/worries and he never seemed to be worried about anything- maybe a little too happy. He was great during my delivery and even posed for some pics. read more

Dr.Dao is awesome. He is my OB with my current pregnancy. He is probably the nicest dr I've come across. I cant wait to come back and do another review for my labor experience, after I give birth to my second. But so far, like other reviewers mentioned hes very straight forward and is very informative. The wait is not that bad. The longest I had to wait was 25 minutes but its not that bad. The quickest was a little less than 10 minutes. He is the opposite of the first OB I had and wish I found him when I was pregnant with my firstborn. Thanks again Yelp! read more

Been seeing Dr. Dao since 2003, he is such a great caring person who will never rush you out of an appointment. He will take you in his office if you have any question about anything and explain whatever it is you inquire about. He's in an office with great friendly staff, who are also always kind on the phone and in person. Emmy is wonderful, she is very soft spoken and sweet, makes a woman feel extremely comfortable at such an awkward moment. I needed a new gynecologist since my previous doctor of about 30 years retired. Dr. Dao was recommended to me by a friend. After meeting him I immediately felt comfortable discussing anything and everything about the "female problems" I was having. The physical exam is never something to look forward to but it seemed thorough but not super uncomfortable. The gynecologist I tried before seeing Dr. Dao did not have a female assistant present during the exam which gave me a bad feeling which made me decide not to go back to him. My previous doctor always had an assistant present during exams and Dr. Dao follows this practice. Dr. Dao is so easy to talk with and is very knowledgeable about medications. We even discussed some herbal medicines which he is open to as treatments. Dr. Dao is truly a keeper! read more

I just called their office because I just found out I am pregnant. I asked if they were accepting new patients and I was told yes. She started to get my information and because my husband is in the navy and I have to stay home with our daughter due to deployments/extremely long work days for my husband, I only have tricare insurance. Well, right after that I was told "no we aren't accepting new patients", even though they have a contract with tricare. Being discriminated against so blatantly is horrible. read more
