I have been coming here for almost five year now, and have never been disappointed. Even the take out is great, which is tricky when you deal with things like Duck, Calamari, fried apps, etc. This place nails it every time. I have had so many different meals here I couldn't try to detail each one of them, but ANYTHING you get at this little gem is excellent. The appetizers are great, always fresh, and no fillers or flavor enhancers like excessive salt or MSG (a big no-no). Ok, I almost lied...there is one appetizer I would put a big "AVOID" on, and it is the fried tofu app. Its not that I don't like Tofu, I do...I just did not enjoy this appetizer. Don't let it take anything away from this place though, just don't order the Tofu app! Some palate advice is that they have a light hand when it comes to spicy, so if you like average spice don't say a word, but if you like a bit of a kick as I do, ask them to take it up a notch! Its BYOB, and if you can' t figure that one out dig deep back to those college days...I am sure you will figure it out! read more

I visited again recently, and this place is still a top Thai spot for me in the Queens/LI area. I ordered my usual: yellow curry with chicken, hold the cashews! I wish they would serve more rice with each dish, though. I ended up having to ask for extra rice, which cost $1.50 more. How else am I supposed to soak up all that delicious yellow curry? They also forgot to bring a ginger ale to our table that we had ordered, but they easily took it off the bill when we brought it to their attention. No big deal. The place is BYOB, in case you didn't know -- the folks next to us were enjoying their own bottle of wine. The service was wonderful, and the waitresses were all super sweet. The owner also seems like a cool guy. The place was filled to the brim with folks late on a Saturday night, so it was a bit noisier than usual. Hey, they're getting business, so that's a good thing! I am a Thai lover & can you honestly ever go wrong with a plate of pad Thai? I happened to be in Franklin Square and remembered seeing this restaurant on Yelp a number of occasions so I decided to give it a try. On a Wednesday evening we had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table and the dining room was almost full. The restaurant back story is cute. Apparently the two owners are husband and wife. The guys name is Frank (the restaurant is in Franklin Square --hence Frankly Thai) and his wife is the cook. It is in her culture to cook Thai food and he fell in love with her and the food many years ago. The one thing I didn't like was how long it took from the time I was seated until my waitress came over and introduced herself/take orders. I was starving which also made it worse because after 1 minute I already knew what appetizers and entrees I was ordering and I want to say I waited about 10 minutes to get someone to come over to my table. That bothered me. Also upon ordering pad Thai for my 3 year old daughter the waitress decided she knew my kid better than me and tell me that she won't like pad Thai. (My kid loves pad Thai btw- she thinks it's pasta but who am I to burst her bubble?) It might be a good thing that I started out a little annoyed with the service because after that everything went uphill. The service improved and the food was great. We started with 2 appetizers: the golden bags and the Thai dumplings. Both were very yummy. We ordered 3 entrees: chicken pad Thai, drunken noodles with chicken, chicken /shrimp fried rice combination. All 3 entrees tasted good. We decided to get the Thai style zeppoli for dessert and that was the perfect end to the meal. They had a perfect crisp and still soft and fresh with the right amount of sweet for just $3.95. I would recommend those to any one. All in all, the main issue I had with this restaurant was the subpar service I received. The food was good but my experience wasn't good enough for me to rush back here. I would definitely consider it a place to go to for take out and it seems a lot of people do that. This was probably my less favorite Thai restaurant around. I was so excited to find something so close to home but it wasn't that good. I ordered the Pineapple Thai Fried Rice with Shrimps the egg wasn't chopped up evenly it was just one chick on egg. One big half of an tomato, onions was chopped into big chunks. They had no plum sauce. My friend ordered Pad Thai and he said everything was on point with his meal. We also ordered Pancakes and it tasted just like fried seaweed. read more

My friend and I went after a movie in Franklin Square. We were greeted by the hostess and sat down. They were very accommodating and our food came quickly. My friend got the drunken noodles and I got the Pad Mee. We ate our meals, were not rushed and on the way out, we met the owner and the chef who were very nice, asked us our names, told us who they were and told us they hoped to see us again soon. It is difficult to get a table on the weekends and they apparently do not take reservations. It is an ideal place for dinner after a movie, I would recommend and return. read more

This Review is for 2 visits both being sub par experience as far as authentic Thai taste. We're not a newbie when it comes to Thai taste, having to live in Astoria, Queens for 14 years, you can say that we are pampered and spoiled rotten when it comes to great food. We have tried various Thai restaurant in Nassau and nothing come close to Thai Taste in Queens. I gave only 3 stars for this establishment because i honestly think it's overrated, over-priced yet the taste of the food does not bring you home, if you know how authentic Thai taste like. And that 3 stars goes to their great customer service, presentation and dessert (Thai Zepoles) , that's it. Let's start with Chicken Satay and Shrimp roll, though presentation is beautiful, meat itself is too dry, though i like the shrimp roll, very flavorful, check for me. Their lunch portion is well, what do you expect it's Long island, so it's pretty small with a puny side of Jasmin rice. Let's go for the Crsipy Tilapia. Ok, first off, it's not crispy not unless you will order the sauce on the side, but you wouldn't know this until you actually get the food. Its few pieces of breaded tilapia fillet, about 1 1/2 inch in size, soaked in Lard Prik sauce, crispy? Not at all and without the sauce, it would only just be fried fish fillet. Followed by my daughter shrimp pad thai, you see Pad Thai taste should be a perfect marriage of sweetness, saltiness and minor tanginess but their pad thai here is major sour, noodles is pale in color and too dry. Next is drunken noodles with beef, on first occasion my son ordered it from Lunch Special, taste great, few pieces of beef no veges and color is mainly dark, 2nd occasion, I ordered the same from the main menu not lunch special, came out slightly bigger, few pieces of beef, pale in color and tons of colorful pepper (yellow and red) and lots and lots of carrots, so basically you are paying for those extra vegetables. next is their Seafood in Panang Curry - this is where i draw the line and said to my husband, I would rather take the extra 35 minutes to go to Queens for my Thai Fix, it's so bland that i had to ask for fish sauce, i can't taste the panag curry, all i can taste is the coconut. And it literally comes with 6 pieces of seafood in it, 2 shrimp and 3-4 slices of squid and the rest are veges; green and red pepper and green peas. This for $17.95 (see pic) Even their sticky rice with mango is nothing to write home about,their sticky rice is salty, even the coconut sauce that they pour over is salty. Suggestion, if you wish people to love this dish, make your sticky rice sweet, cooked in coconut milk with sugar and only a pinch of salt and pour some of the sweetened coconut milk over it, try it, you can thank me later. The Thai Zepoles though is my favorite of them all, it's deep fried crispy texture outside and soft inside, lightly drizzled with condensed milk and powered sugar, heaven! That being said, we're not coming back, we are still on a hunt for the real authentic taste Thai food in Long Island, if anyone here knows where it is, please PM me. read more

Best Thai on Long Island. I always order the curry dishes and I am never disappointed. The yellow curry with the potatoes is my favorite. The spicy basil fried rice is always great and never greasy. I was very lucky to arrive at 5:30 pm.The restaurant was sparsely occupied with guests, at this time. The servers & waitresses buzzed around the few tables, making sure everyone's water, tea and napkins were replenished at that time. Great, I love prompt service! I didn't really need the menu tonight as I already had Yelp. The Crispy Golden Bag's were a tempting looking appetizer. Good, let's start with that. And the chicken Satay also looked great from my friends Yelp pics. Both appetizers delicious and on point. I couldn't believe how delicious the golden crispy bags were. I looked up and noticed that the restaurant was already half full in just the 10 minutes that I sat here. The servers started to become overwhelmed with the growing crowd. Unfortunately, my service started to suffer as a result. My water, tea and napkins went unreplenished. It seems that the entire town decided to have Thai food tonight as 50 people jammed into this tiny restaurant, not a single seat was to be had. I had to wave my menu in the air and stand up at my table to attract the servers to come over. I felt a little funny doing it but I already seen servers walk by right by my table and actually turn around as I flagged them. Wow that's busy! My waiter saw that I was taking photos and Yelping, he came over and was very friendly at that point. I showed him some of the pictures that I had posted already. I told him to please not to forget about me seated all the way in the corner. The restaurant continued to fill with patrons. They sat at the tiny bar and filled the back waiting room to capacity streaming out the back door. Whoa. My waiter explained to me that I had come at the busiest time in the week. Oh boy, lucky me. He also told me that the restaurant was closed tomorrow because of the Super Bowl game, and that's why it was so crowded for tonight. The manager came over she was very pleasant and professional , she offered apologies for my wait in service. It was quite obvious that they could have used some more personnal tonight. My Spicy & Sour" Crispy Duck" came to my table, it was mounded on a bed of lettuce and smelled really good. I thought that maybe for the $26 that I paid for the meal it could have been accompanied by some vegetables or some noodles. Or perhaps some of those puffy duck buns, sliced cucumbers or scallions? Looking forward to next time, I shall request this meal with the sauce on the side. The duck was really flavorful but was not that crispy with all the sauce on top of it. The sweet and sour tastes in my meal were really on point, I can see why this place was so crowded. Just a couple of more servers on staff tonight would have been preferable. Time for dessert. I got the yelper recommended Fried Banana drizzled with honey and sesame seeds. This was really awesome dessert HOT and crispy, next time I shall pair it with some ice cream. That would complement this crunchy hot dessert really well. Well folks I'm all done. Had a really nice Thai meal at this cozy little place. I know NOT to come here on the busy weekend evenings, I really don't see myself waiting over an hour for a table. Leaving, I had to squeeze past the throngs of people waiting on the line. For the appetizer, I had the pork filled Thai Dumplings ... They were ok, but I've had better. It didn't have as much taste as I expected. Good food, but this place keeps reducing its hours more and more, to the point where it's not even worth the effort to go anymore. Extremely disappointing, considering how much me and my family loved visiting this spot. They used to be open on wednesdays, and now you can't even get a meal on Wednesday night anymore. For a small place, Frankly Thai really packs a big flavorful punch. I have been going here for years, even before they renovated it, and I truly believe the food has gotten better. While the portions are certainly smaller than most other Thai restaurants, it more than makes up for it in quality and taste. I would certainly rather have a medium sized plate of delicious food than a giant plate of average grub. I have tried close to everything on the menu, without disappointment. You want spicy? Just ask, but make sure you have a cold Thai iced tea nearby to extinguish your mouth. I recommend the crispy tofu and vegetable spring rolls to start. Then the Eggplant basil (spicy). Went here tonight with my husband. Overall, we left really happy. We got the golden basket appetizers which were good. For dinner, i had the drunken noodle with tofu and chicken... so good! My husband's meal was delicious also. The only few downfalls of the experience was that we had to wait 40 mins (we got there at 7:30pm, which is probably peak) for a table and the waitress took a while to initially get to our table and didn't check in, other than to take our order and bring us our food and drinks. We didn't mind too much... but I was super hungry and am also pregnant, so the waiting part was a bit of an issue for my hungry and pregnant self. In the end, we decided that we like Franklin Thai and will definitely be back! read more

To start, the owner of the restaurant came to our table to greet us while we were eating. He was a very sweet man, and he even spoke kindly to our children. The food is delicious. We have tried every Thai restaurant within a 10 mile radius of our home and this one is the best by far. We enjoyed the golden bags. They were so delicious we considered getting a second order. Equally great were the curry puffs and our Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles (if you like food with a kick.) We ended the dinner with their amazing green tea ice cream. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, and they definitely don't try to rush you. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, but you may have to wait for a table. Came here for lunch because of the great reviews. The food is ok but very small portions. The lunch special includes wonton soup or salad. I didn't want either so I Ordered the Tom kha soup and it was good but for $7.95 it was over priced. It's a small bow with mostly onions, some chicken and a sprinkle of mushrooms. My pad see eww was small with with frozen broccoli. That is unacceptable, I'm not at the Foodcourt. They should only use fresh vegetables. The flavor of all the food is ok. One of the best Thai options in the area! Perfect size portions and great prices. The option is available for most options on the menu to have them prepared spicy or extra spicy if wanted. I Decided to have some Thai food last night. If your in the Franklin Square area Frankly Thai is where it is at. I wanted to try this place a few years ago to Dine in but by the time my movie let out the place was closed. So about last night, the food was delicious! This time around I opted for take-out. This restaurant has two entrances. I prefer the back entrance as there is ample parking. The front entrance is on Hempstead Turnpike hence lots of traffic and scare parking. I ordered the shrimp with Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) it was excellent not overly spicy with enough flavor. Only compliant small take-out container. My partner in crime ordered Thai Sausage with Pad Thai. I did sample that dish for the sake of this review lol and I most say that was delicious as well. I the take-ou service was fast and efficient. Plenty of space to sit while your meal is prepared or for those waiting to be seated for dinning. I will definitely go back to sample more menu items, including appetizers. The Next time around I'm most likely going to dine in. read more

We've been coming here for years, but we are going to give this place a break until they are able to bring your ordered dishes in a timelier manner. I feel bad for the wait staff! They just need some proper training on service! They are good at serving your food, but not trained to be attentive and keep an eye on the table they are responsible for. The hype is R E A L. The Golden Bags are obviously the staple appetizer since they're so damn cute. Stuffed with chicken and corn; accompanied by a sweet chili sauce; my mind is drooling thinking about them. Do you eat the string they're tied with? I'm sure you're supposed to right? I did. It crunched all the same. The Crab Ragoons are the best I've ever had. You can taste the crab and the shell is perfect crisp. Also dip in the sweet chili sauce. Yammm! They look like mini empanadas. My entree was Crispy Duck with Green Curry. (Warning it is spicy! It has the cute little pepper next to it.) It was perfection. The green curry is made with coconut milk and the chef adds mixed veggies so you get a bigger portion. 100% best option of the night. There's a selection of 6 or so different sauces. Served with a side of white fluffy rice. The duck was delectable. I had it for breakfast the next morning. NO SHAME. For dessert we shared home made Green Tea Ice Cream that's $4 for a huge bowl! The Thai Styled Zepolis are just screaming to be paired with the ice cream. The owner is on site. He introduced himself and mentioned his wife is the chef. It's really beautiful to experience such an amazing dish at a family run restaurant. You can feel the amount of love she puts into her craft. We will be checking in more often. Went here with two of my friends and we ordered the shrimp and chicken pad Thai to share, as well as the vegetable rolls and the fried ice cream. It was a packed restaurant but the service was so spectacular and we received our appetizers and entrees so quickly. The decor is beautiful and a perfect place to meet friends or go on a date. The hours of the restaurant are a bit strange as they close from 3:30-4:30, but I'd recommend waiting as the food is just that delicious! The pricing is average, but it can run expensive, so stick with a filling entree if you're low on cash. The Thai iced tea was perfect, not too sweet and refreshing as always. Both pad thais came with the peanuts on the side which is very accommodating, and there was a little bit difference to how the shrimp and the chicken pad thais tasted that I can't put my finger on (besides the meats obviously). Both were delicious but I liked the shrimp one more! Afterwards, we ordered a delicious fried ice cream dish from the dessert menu. It was so tasty and sweet, covered in a berry compote or jam, and beautifully presented to us. It had whipped cream on top and the flavor of the ice cream was vanilla. Finally, great thai food outside of Boston. I had no idea that we would find it in Franklin Square but, to me, that makes it all the better. I love a good surprise. What's so great about Frankly Thai? Well, for one the food is awesome. Perfectly cooked noodles with just the right amount of spice AND a great noodle/vegetable/meat/sauce ratio is hard to find in this area... unless you come to Frankly Thai. That's merely the food though. A great Thai restaurant always has that little something extra that makes it great and here it's the owner and his chef/wife. Husband and I went for dinner last night and it was jam packed with people. It was also jam packed with flowers and balloons. It turns out that it was the chef/owner's birthday and boy were they celebrating. Well, there were also other birthdays going on as well... so many that there was not a seat in the house to be found. No matter, husband and I are always perfectly happy sitting at a bar. So, there we sat, placed out orders for food and were just getting ready for a great meal when one of the owners announced that a table had JUST left and it was now ours for the taking. When we stated we were fine where we were if it was reserved his response was priceless: "Enjoy each other! Take the table." I love a good restaurant with owners and staff that clearly like one another, their jobs and their customers. Frankly Thai is a great find for anyone looking for amazing food and the most welcoming atmosphere on Long Island. Also, it appears to be BYOB so if wine/beer and thai food are your thing, you're in luck. I personally prefer my thai food with a healthy glass of Thai iced tea but to each his own. :) read more

Very good Franklin Square Thai restaurant that serves up a lot of dishes from southern Thailand. Lunch started off disappointing with curry puffs which tasted like fried mashed potatoes, no curry flavor at all. Then they redeemed themselves with a delicious chicken roti with a wonderful peanut curry sauce. The red curry chicken was very good as well but could benefit from a little more heat, asked for medium spicy and it was rather mild but still flavorful. Service is friendly and prices are not too bad. Paid $50 for two for lunch on a Saturday which is what you'd pay for dinner. Recommended and worth coming back. read more

I been coming here a long time but I noticed something, when Jin is NOT working the kitchen the consistency disappears... When ordering make sure Jin, the co-owner and head chef is working the kitchen first! Tonight I ordered my favorite, eggplant basil which usually is in a flavorful spiced sauce with plenty of eggplant, tonight as I was pulling in, Jim was all dressed up and was leaving... my dish was in water not a sauce, no flavor no spices... highly disappointed! We ended the night by getting kicked out as soon as we paid the bill (convenient for the owner).
