We
visited Chester-le-St. branch recently and bought 3 bedroom carpet @
£16.99m2, underlay @ £6.99m2 which came to £800 + £94 for laying. We
then visited their Sunderland branch to see their bedroom furniture
and seen the same carpet at £12.99m2. I complained at that point. I was given a
variety of half-baked excuses from This may be a Managers
special, to Chester-le St was a franchise and could charge what
they wanted. I immediately rang Chester-le St and the next morning to
their credit they did correct the situation and refunded the extra cost of
£99- albeit the carpet remained on show at the original price.
Fitting for two rooms was done on the date I requested and to a good standard. They
got the dates mixed up for the second fitting and after sitting most of the day
for the fitter I rang the branch. I refused to be fobbed off and explained
whilst they had left the carpet and some underlay, the earlier fitters had not
left any gripper rods and there was not enough underlay. Once again to
their credit, they arranged fitters to attend later that evening.
Unfortunately they didn't bring the gripping rods and needed to return the
following morning.
That following morning I had rang the branch and explained the situation and
that my carpet still needed fitting and reaffirmed the shortage of underlay and
gripper rods. It was obvious I was short of underlay as I had 9m2 of large
carpet offcuts for which I had no underlay. I asked for that to be sent
out with the fitters who were calling for the gripper bars so that I could
utilise the offcuts. At the end of the day it had been fully paid for. When
the fitters returned and completed the work -again to a good standard, I
found they had not brought the outstanding underlay. I realised I was completely
wasting my time. Franks had no intention of handing it over so before the
fitters left we agreed on a piece of thinner underlay from the back of the van enough to complete my
job. Needless
to say, once bitten twice shy! read more
