Oh! Yes, please! We know we weren't in the Bavarian region, but we were craving the Nurnberg sausages we'd had once upon a time in Nuremberg. We were only in town for a few hours, but when we found out they had them we decided we would devote day's visit to Franziskaner. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They helped us work through ordering, as finding these delights on the menu can be tricky for an English speaker. Our server was an absolute delight, though, and he helped us find them and place an order with the amount we wanted (can we order 100 please?). We also ordered a sample of sausages featuring 4 different kinds. And, of course, BEER! Giant liters full. We were able to try two different kinds and they were delish. Our server was also great conversation and gave us info about other things in the area that were worth seeing, too. Let me tell you about that sausage though! We make our own at home, and we make it a point to order sausages everywhere we go. We're fans. Every single one of their sausages was drop dead delicious. Perfect textures, no graininess, delicate, with snap where it should have snap. All the flavors of each were perfection. And the Nurnbergs tasted just like the ones we'd had in Nuremberg 7 years ago. It was such a delight. P.S. their sauerkraut was the best I've had IN. MY. LIFE. The interior was perfect, too. Traditional Bavarian style, cozy wooden booths with pillows, beautiful checkered blue and white curtains. And CLEAN beautiful bathrooms!! When we visited the toilets we realized there was a whole dining area above where we'd dined, so they can accommodate some crowds for sure! I am so glad we made the effort and spent all our time that day there. They took care of us completely and I would return 100% the next time we're in Hamburg. Definitely worth it! read more

The food was very good. It came out quickly after ordering, not much of a wait. We tried the sampler and the pork loin dishes. We were most pleased with the sampler meats. The wait staff was dressed in traditional costumes. Nice overall vibe to the restaurant. read more

Want to experience authentic Bavarian food, you got to come to eat at Franziskaner. It's a wonderful restaurant where you can truly enjoy hearty Southern German food and hospitality. By the time you step into the restaurant, you are welcomed with amazing German enthusiasm and warmth. Servers are all wearing the Southern German Bavarian traditional custom. And the interior transports you to another German era. You know you're going in for a treat of great German food. Our big waiter gave us great recommendations of all the famous Bavarian dishes. Our orders covered them all that included sausages, sauerkraut, veggies, knuckle of pork and cold beers. I highly recommend the crispy knuckle of pork. The skin is so crispy and the meat inside is so tender. the meat felt off bone literally. Another thing you got to have is their beer. We got light beers and they were so good. Much better than the beers we've ever had in the states. We will definitely be back for more of these foods before we leave Hamburg. read more

What a wonderful restaurant! We were looking for a place that had both delicious food and an inviting Bavarian character to it. Not only does Franziskaner deliver on those two points, but the service was outstanding as well! We arrived in town late and didn't have a chance to make reservations, but the owner went out of his way to accommodate us anyway. This Franziskaner was as good as the original in Munich, actually one of the best Schweinshaxen I have every had- crispy outside, juicy inside. The waitstaff was outnumbered and rushed, but the food wasn't cold when it got to us, so no worries. I was in Hamburg on buisness and was craving some classic German (Bavarian in this case) food. Franziskaner hit the spot (including the beer, of course). The Room - Very classically decorated. Low ceilings, all wood, bench seating, and Bavarian outfits for the service staff. The Service - Very pleasant. While our waitress didn't speak much English, she was quick to provide us with menus featuring English translations. Through various finger points, our broken German, and her broke English, we made it through the order process without much fuss, and with some good chuckles. The Food - Come hungry! The portions are large and quite tasty. The restaurant features a seasonal specials list as well as a standard menu (sausages, potatoes, pork, duck, etc). I ate off of the seasonal menu, and my duck with berry sauce and crispy potatoes was quite good. A hearty homemade dining experience which hit the spot on a cold, rainy, January night. read more

I really don't know why we ended up here, we just wanted to sit somewhere outside and enjoy a beer. well its not the perfect place for a summer afternoon since the sun doesnt even shine there and theres quite a lot of wind. They serve typical bavarian food and desserts - nothing for me there. I read the menu twice but amazingly enough couldnt find anything to my taste. I just had a beer and shared the apfel strudel. Unless you are intending on eating typical bavarian food, this place isnt really recommendable. However ideal place for tourists. The food in this place was great! We had the pork axe and it blew my mind. The service was horrible! It took us 45 minutes to place our order. The waitress was busy talking to her friends and taking out used plates instead of taking our order. We asked two times if we could place an order and was ignored the second time. When we had finished our meal the tables was not cleared. I asked for the check but she started setting napkins up for the next guests. We came the first time here and to be honest we wouldn't come back. Waitress was extremely unfriendly. I asked for a glass of tap water to take some medicine, but she said I have to pay for it. Then she went off without waiting what I answer. The other waitress finally gave me one. Asparagus soup didn't taste good; the obatzda plate was big but with 10€ overpriced. To get a small Pretzel takes 15 min and costs 1,90€ more. Leberkäs plate is really basic. We had to get silverware and napkins ourself; mustard as well. No waitress ever asked us if we need anything although our table was right in the middle. I love Bavarian food but I really can't recommend this place :( It only gets 2 stars because the beer is good... read more
