This is a really nice dog park in the South Loop area. It is spacious and relatively clean. I bring my dog here a few times a week for him to stretch his legs. I love that there is a small dog section that is separate from where the big dogs play. However, it does not feel like an afterthought. It is still spacious and nicely appointed. There's a pretty strong community feel here. Everyone is friendly and if you're consistent, you'll see familiar faces. I'm really thankful to have something like this in the area. read more

Such a lucky blessing to have the fantastic Fred Anderson Park in the friendly South Loop. Have met so many wonderful neighbors and their adorable dogs to become friends with over the last few years since moving here. Park was voted as one of the top five dog parks in Chicago and you can definitely see why. Spacious areas dividing large versus smaller dogs is a huge win to ease owners' anxieties over possible fights. Each section has comfortable and plentiful places to sit/relax. Each side also has working water fountains during the summer, which the dogs absolutely love playing in. Also gives a refreshing ambience during the hot days. Surrounded by plush trees, give one instant vacation vibes. Next to the dog areas is a wonderful performing area for live music and other family activities. First of all my dogs enjoyed them selves very much by the time we went home they knocked out in the car ride home . But I just wish they would clean the areas for the dogs it was dirty and not kept up cleanliness wise to much dog poop stains on the grass that looked liked it was there for a long period of time didn't have any back up poop bags in the dispenser and debris was all over the park which could be hazardous for the dogs to consume . Not to mention after our first trip there a few days later our puppies got sick and come to find out they got Giardia . read more

Really love Fred Anderson Park!! I've started coming here a lot in the past couple weeks and always had a great experience. I've had some odd experiences at many other Chicagoland dog parks, but all of the owners at Fred Anderson are attentive to their dogs while still recognizing that dogs will play. Once a pup gets too rough, the owner gets their pup and no one gets upset. Location is great - in the south loop and you can easily get here even during rush hour. I've only been here in the winter so it is starting to smell like a typical dog park, but many other owners have said that it is cleaned nightly in the summer. There is minimal poop laying around so everyone is very responsible with cleaning up. There are also many areas for waterfountains to come out in the summer! Like all other reviews mention, there are separate areas for large/active dogs and small/gentle dogs. It's really nice that all dogs are accommodated. Can't wait to come back here! read more

This is Josie's favorite park! She's a tiny dog and loves that the big dogs are separate from the small dogs. Josie loves the water on the hot summer days. The faux grass prevents any muddy paws which I love. And there is a nice little shaded area for doggie owners. Parking is good in the area too but one side of the street is metered. read more

Gorgeous new park for the dogs in the South Loop. It's got fake dog grass, drinking fountains, tables, benches, interesting walls, and best yet: water features for the summer. The large dog area is really quite large and perfect for running and playing fetch with a chuck-it. My pup loves it here. There are two separate areas to play for small and large/rambunctious dogs, but my 22 pound mutt of course wants to run on the big side. read more

Fred Anderson is probably the best dog park in the city. It's huge and has two separate areas (designated for big or high-energy dogs, and small or calm dogs). There is double-gate protection at each entrance to minimize the likelihood that a dog will slip through while someone else is coming in or out. And, unlike most other dog parks in the city, the ground is artificial grass or "turf," which is much kinder on paws than gravel or asphalt. In the summertime or warmer months, there are water fountains that the dogs can run and play in to stay cool. There are, of course, cons to any dog park. First and foremost, it can get pretty gnarly, especially for medium-size dogs. There have been times when my 50 lb. dog is the smallest in the big dog side, by far, and I am concerned that he will be squashed or otherwise injured by a playful dog that weighs twice his size. I've seen 120+ lb. dogs (Great Danes, St. Bernards, etc.) that will try to wrestle him. Along the same vein, there are some dogs that are poorly socialized or aggressive and clearly do not belong at a dog park, but the owners are either ignorant or don't care. I see way too many people on their cell phones or even laptops, paying no attention to their dog humping, growling, and biting the others. Finally, it's a public park, so it's not the cleanest. Most of the time people clean up after their dogs, but there are lots of leftover poo-smears all over the ground. Inexperienced dog owners should be aware that dog parks can increase your dog's risk to giardia or other contagious diseases. read more

I really love this park, because it has separate gated areas for small and large dog breeds. I only wish some people would respect others by following the rules and don't bring their pit-bulls in to the small dog area, just because they also have a chihuahua and don't want to separate them. It takes me 40 min to get to this park. I spend all this time walking just to make sure that my toy poodle can play with other small breeds without me being paranoid and not worry about him being attacked by a big dog. Please respect the others or go to the other parks where they have only one area for all breeds. By the way most parks are like that. If you are coming to the park with separate areas that are designated for a different sizes breeds, I would really appreciate if you let your dog out of the leash in the area where it belongs. Wonderful park in South Loop. It's clean and everyone that brings their dogs here are responsible, courteous, and genuinely kind owners. Everyone pays attention to their dogs and makes sure they behave. Parking is a little tricky and metered but it's not too expensive. The fountains that shoot up are a lot of fun for the dogs and because the water doesn't sit around my dog has never gotten ill after consuming any. It may take a little more effort to bring your dog here but just make a trip out of it and stop at the nearby Trader Joe's afterwards!! read more

Wonderful dog park in South Loop! Granted, this is the only dog park that I've been to in Chicago, but it is the best :) There are two separate areas for small/gentle dogs and big dogs, and plenty of seating in both areas. It seems everyone who visits this park is very good about picking up after their dogs, because the areas are pretty clean. There is also a lot of green space surrounding the gated areas, so you can walk around for even more fun. read more

Just discovered this dog park today. It is beautiful and probably one of the largest in the city. I love the stream that runs through the center of the park and the doggy pools that are available to the pups in summer. Also, I appreciate the separated areas for dogs based off size/temperament. This place is well taken care of, and even though it is a haul from Logan Square, I'm sure I'll be back next month. read more

I get that a lot of people like this park and have no problems there but since it opened, we have stopped going. Our dog is medium sized and the dogs that go in the "big" dog area are HUGE. There are just too many people and dogs and with gates that open on both sides, it's dangerous because you can't always see your dog. I have seen blood on the sidewalks here before and most recently, someone left a gate open, causing a dog to run out into the street and get killed. I really appreciate having more dog parks but when they become this popular, they can be dangerous. read more

My 30-lb sheepdog dog was attacked here on 6/28/17 when he went up to smell another dog (it was unprovoked). He required $500 of emergency vet care to fix the wounds around his neck. Another dog in my building was also seriously injured at this park a few months back. I want to like this dog park -- it is nice, close by, and very busy -- but there are just too many asshole dogs. I don't know if there's anything the city can (or would) do about this, but be aware that if another dog attacks your dog and the owner just walks away, there's basically nothing you can do about it. read more

This is not a very nice park. There are dogs barking at all hours, often as late as 1 AM even though the park is supposed to be "closed". I do not recommend this park, unless of course you are a dog (and if you are a dog that can read this, please keep the noise down). read more

I brought my newly adopted pup here about two weeks ago. She's a pitbull mix /large/5 years old. And all I can say is this is one of the best dog parks I've been to in a long time . She was so happy , running all over the place , meeting new people and dogs. I love how there is two gated areas (small pen and large pen) , along with a running stream of water , water fountains for the dogs and a kiddie swim pool for the dogs to jump in. It's extremely clean and there is always seating for the humans . I will be coming here from now on . Very pleased ! Would recommend to anyone looking for a dog park in the Chicago area ! read more

All I can say is WOW!!!!! I love this park for my doggy! I love the fact that the big dogs are separated from the smaller ones. The people are very pleasant and the doggies really have a great time. I have a 5 month old Cocker Spaniel I love to watch him run and chase his friends. There is a fountain for the doggies to wet themselves or drink from as well as another water fountain for drinking. This park is so nice. I drive here because I don't live close by but the trip is well worth the great time my pooch has. Oh and this is a very clean park. Everyone cleans up very well. My dog loves this park. Space for the dogs to run, a fun water feature to keep cool in the summer and nice seating areas for owners. There is a separate area for big dogs and little dogs. The fake grass is great because it's low maintenance and keeps my dog from getting muddy after a romp. This was a great dog park! Street parking is plentiful if you're driving and there is a lot of space for the dogs to run. There are two separate parks - one for big dogs and one for smaller dogs with water features in both. There are a couple of blind spots in the park due to the 'mountain' water feature so just make sure to keep a good eye on your dog. read more
