But…read moretoday, 8/12/2024 I was at Children's hospital and got lost going to the Pharmacy with my grand baby and ended up into the cafeteria. There was a Police officer at the end of the line closer to me but I skipped him and looked at the person in front of him and asked him to direct me to the Pharmacy. The person did not hear me but this officer kindly directed me to the Pharmacy. He actually had to explain a couple of times the directions. It was not too far but listening to an officer was just nerve wrecking. Anyway, after the visit to the Pharmacy I went to thank the officer and I don't know if he knew that I was nervous but he carried a good conversation with me, taking the fear of unknown away from me. When leaving I asked for his name and he just said Chris, like some local, regular person, but I asked for his last name, and then he just handed me his business card. When I was in the car heading home, I looked at the card and it said "Commander" under his name Christopher Kasal. I almost melted, he was not even just a regular officer but a Commander. I was talking to a Commander yo'all! Oh Wow! What a humble human being. He actually treated me like some important person for real!. Thank you very much Commander Kasal and St. Paul Police for having people like him in your department.

I am a senior female of color and have been treated with great respect fortunately. This past summer two men were heard yelling at one another one morning with the result of one getting stabbed, yes at 10 am behind our garages ( 1880's house converted into 4 rentals). The perpetrator ran away from the victim right up our driveway. And our neighbor who witnessed everything called the police who arrived in minutes. The second incident was at our post office near highway 52 on a boiling June day this summer of 90 degrees. A Mexican mother ran into the post office at 5 pm yelling to borrow a cell phone speaking only Spanish I speak fluent Spanish and asked her why and she said she must call her husband ( rush hour) to come with the keys for her 2 year old child was locked in the car. I quickly told her in Spanish, no time, we must call the police who CAME in less than 5 minutes of my call. The child had passed out was sweating to an extreme her tiny body was very hot after he immediately got the door open. I told the mother to please take the child out bring her inside the cool post office give her water and the mother REFUSED. So I quickly informed the officer, he felt the child and agreed and insisted the mother remove and cool her down. He was truly kind patient calm respectful of us all. The child was SO hot... I think she had left her in the car windows all closed while she had gone into the post office .......

My daughter and I went there and it is tight security there. You only can get to the lobby and you must state why you are there or what you need. Once I told them they patched through to the officer who said he would drop it off after an emergency they were in. We waited a while at home but finally had to call as I needed it. He came in about 20 minutes to our home, apologized...saying " I bet you never wanted to see my face again!" after giving me a ticket....It was ok I said. Never feel good about getting a ticket. I felt like the kid in the candy jar. Its much different there than Chicago. Peaceful neighbohoods...people taking their time. The moral of the story watch those MPH signs on Bloomington street as they change block to block.... and if you are not aware..oops. If you are fortunate enough to be stopped by the officer I had...he was kind but did his job. Normandale is 45mph all the way to 494...a much better route I quickly took when headed back to Chi Town.

What I believed was a family matter that occurred during a stressful and emotional situation quickly escalated into an arrest. What was most upsetting was the lack of communication afterward. My family was not given clear information about where my sister was being taken, who to contact, or what the next steps would be. We spent hours worried and searching for answers during an already difficult time. As a result of this experience, my trust in law enforcement has been affected. I understand officers have a difficult job and must make decisions based on the circumstances they observe. However, I believe better communication, more compassion, and clearer guidance for families would have made a very stressful situation easier to navigate. I am sharing this feedback in the hope that other families going through difficult situations receive better communication and support

Honestly..... I've already posted a negative review for the police department. So now we'll talk…read moreabout City Hall. I have lived on Cascade Avenue for YEARS and the parking situation as always been a problem. So much so, that I was in an accident trying to get out of my driveway because I can't see past the illegally parked cars outside of my home. My husband and I have desperately tried to work with the police and the city to fix this. The city (not the police, they have NEVER been helpful) finally put up another no parking sign, but unfortunately, the police don't actually police it, so any time someone illegally parks, we have to be the one to call them. And unfortunately, the college students don't seem to care at all about the parking tickets, because it continues to be a problem. Because the police have not been helpful, we reached out to the city. At first, the city seemed to want to help. Scot Simpson talked to my husband about how to go above the chief of police's head. Scot Simpson had barrels put outside out home (after cones were stolen by the college students) and for awhile, things got a little better. We discussed a possible tow zone outside the house, and at first, Scot seemed helpful. However, after the snowfall, the barrel were ruined by plows. We were told that new barrels would be put out, but after two weeks (when calls went unanswered) Scot finally responded to my firmly worded email that there would be no barrels. Scot claims that there will be more police presence, but we have yet to see that. And the police treat us like a nuisance, so I'm not sure why Scot and the city think this will make any change. Last night, a car parked NEXT TO our driveway, right in front of a no parking sign. The police department and the city were unhelpful in this situation. We are told not to interact with illegal parkers, yet we are also told by the actions of the PD and city that they don't plan to help us at all - half the time the PD doesn't even want to ticket illegal parkers. The police chief, Scot Simpson, and everyone involved has was their hands of the situation. All should be held accountable for their lack of service in this situation. We now believe that this is a racist attack towards us as my husband is Hispanic and our last name is Spanish. That's the only reason I can think of that would cause this situation to go on for YEARS with no help.

UWRF is my alma mater so there is a bit of nostalgia in this review. The city has changed so much…read moresince I moved from there way back in 2000. Back in those days, the buildings that lined main street were old (and looked old). It was obviously a college town with many bars and night clubs along each side of the street. On any given night, there would be lots of loud drunk college kids walking (and puking) along the sidewalks. At some point, they decided to clean the place up. The university made major investments in their college of education, build a new massive sports complex on the south side of town and built out a new shopping complex right at the intersection of Cascade and main. Many of the night clubs gave way to restaurants, antique shops and a new expanded upper scale grocery store. Even the Falls Theater which was a mainstay for families got a new facelift. Ticket prices still stayed ridiculously low. Back then it was only $3 to catch a show at any time and now it's only $4 (with super cheap concessions to boot). River falls has continued to expand southward with new large building developments on the southern end of town. There is a lot of history in RF and many of the old homes still stand at the center of the city, juxtaposed against the new shiny university buildings and the roundabout now in the center of Cascade street (that just feels weird). They have a lot of green space in the City with parks and sports fields scattered throughout. Glen park is a great place to put your canoe or kayak into the water and paddle down the Kinnickinnick river to the St Croix. Their business district on the North side of town is also expanding and creating new jobs. My favorite brewery sits there (Rush River). There is a hospital and clinic on the east side (excellent facilities). The UWRF boasts an excellent teacher education program as well as agribusiness, pre veterinarian and business/finance programs. It has been consistently ranked high in public education rankings. The city is a mere 30 minutes from St Paul so it boasts the proximity of a major metro area but offers small town living. It's a great place to raise a family while working in the metro.

In those days compared to these days they didn't have a Real understanding of drug addiction etc. there was a police officer who reached out to me many times as he knew I came from a broken family his name was Jack Pratt. Now that I'm 62, I realize that he was an individual and his actions really made a great impression on me to this day. He was a good man and very dedicated to his job and the people of Hopkins. He sure taught me a great lesson about life RIP

However, sometimes you have to deal with stupid/rude/inconsiderate/selfish criminals. This small department does such a great job of protecting and serving our community while still remaining friendly and welcoming. They have a great presence in the necessary areas of town. I was particularly thankful of this on one unfortunate day in December. In a total "you can't make this stuff up" situation (I will spare you all the details), I was a victim of an auto accident where the driver stopped, then decided it would be a better idea to flee the scene. They didn't get far, just across the street, before six of Hopkins (and Minnetonka's) finest arrived at the scene to stop them in their tracks. Of course the driver did not have valid insurance, so I though I was on the hook for the repairs to my vehicle. Here comes the shout-out portion of my review. Officer Liz White was on the scene that night and took my statement. We exchanged multiple emails over the course of several weeks. She was super helpful in my case, getting me the required insurance information so I could get my car fixed on their dime instead of my own. Thankfully you have to show proof of insurance to get your vehicle from a tow lot, and she was awesome enough to get the info from the lot in order to give me a shot at getting my car fixed. Keep up the great work, Officer White, I thank you for your service!
