Our taxes are moderately complicated with some W2 stuff, some self-employment business stuff, rental property, property sales (capital gains), etc. and while some firms I have worked with in the past struggled to get it all correct and submitted on time, Frederiksen-Crawford has been meticulous about getting it all correct, on time every single year. Diabolical We were looking for a long term person to work on our taxes as expats from the UK, so we thought Chris would be the right person. We asked would they be able to take on our case before the tax deadline (a month or two before), they said they could and I pretty much provided all the documents needed in a few days. However a month or two later just before the deadline we were assigned to someone called Steven Daniel - he was without a doubt the absolute worst person we've ever dealt with in terms of client experience. He would ask us stupid questions like can we convert an image to a document for him to which I pointed out there are plenty of tools online for that. They filed an extension without telling us we would be liable for any interest. A month or so passes and they then start following up with questions saying they are nearly done. Another month passed and they upload the preliminary tax bill into their portal without telling us. The tax bill was a lot higher than expected, I clarified this with Chris, sent the money to the IRS and he said nothing more was needed. Another month passes and Steven emails us asking would we like to file the tax return. WTF Steven?!? The man is clearly an absolute imbecile and did not work out when I said we have paid the IRS (for which he was in the email) this means file the bloody return?!? I get a call from Chris apologising saying they will cover the interest. To this date I have never received this despite sending them the interest bill I paid off for several hundred dollars. For the luxury of all this madness, they charged me $1500. At that price I would be expecting a fairly high end service, this was beyond belief - I cannot fathom how they are happy to charge this for some of the worst professional service I have ever experienced. In short, steer clear unless you have more money than sense - if you hear the name Steven Daniel, run and do not look back. read more

We're two professionals with some rental income and we bought and sold property this year so our return was mildly complicated. Tara is exactly what I was looking for--professional, knowledgeable, friendly and fast. My "free one hour consultation" stretched past 2 hours but she never rushed or pressured me. She was very well informed about my questions, but honest about wanting to check for changes in the law about certain small details. I don't expect someone to know everything about everything, and I'm suspicious of people who always have a definite answer to every question. I left the meeting with a list of documents to complete my return and she was done within days of me providing them . Her fee was very competitive with other accountants I have used and the service was superior. In November of 2017 I received a polite but aggressive letter from the IRS demanding nearly $50,000 plus interest and penalties. I explained my position but the IRS only yawned between sips of coffee and explained the money was due, they knew where I lived and that they were locked and loaded and coming after me with hot barrels blazing. I was unable to get the IRS to listen to me because I did not speak the same language. I needed a professional gunslinger. I then spoke with the professionals at Frederiksen-Crawford CPA and my fast beating heart was settled with their reassuring confidence. My case was accepted with a very fair "No results no pay" agreement. Within weeks the dispute was settled in my favor with the IRS actually owing me close to $10,000. We found Chris and his practice when we lived in Mill Valley. From the moment we shook hands, we knew we had met a wonderful and competent tax professional. His entire office staff were kind and responsive and were available to answer our questions the entire time. We hadn't ever paid someone to do our taxes before and decided to double check our outcome with TurboTax and we almost died when we saw the difference. We decided then and there we had been complete idiots in the past and that we would never do our own taxes again! We actually had to use them a second unexpected time for a tax emergency. We got a letter from the IRS just before winter vacation stating that we owed back taxes (from a year before we had found these guys). They were incredibly responsive and kind.
