For an economical haircut this is the best place to go. They even take in walk ins. The process is a bit long as the student has to check in with the instructor along the way. But I get it since we did go to a beauty school. But overall can't beat the $12 it cost for a decent haircut. read more

I stopped by with my wife so we could both get cuts. Wife got a trim, plus conditioning. I got basically a military style haircut. The girl who cut my hair was nice, we chatted a bit while she worked. She was quick, which was great, but she missed some detail work around my ears, didn't clean up my eyebrows or mustache, either. As I left the building, I was shaking off a lot of loose hairs on the outside and inside of my shirt. I think they might need a better cape or whatever that they put around your neck. After she removed it, I still had some sort of disposable paper thing around my neck, which I removed myself. My last barber used a little hand broom to brush off hairs and then a vacuum to remove any remaining hairs. I rarely felt any itching afterwards, or the need to immediately go home to shower and wash off cut hairs. He also used a straight edge to shave my neck, and always trimmed and/or used the straight edge around my ears to leave a very clean, crisp look and feel. He always trimmed my eyebrows and mustache. Just a little touch up, that was much appreciated. He also used a warm towel, on my face and neck and a little bit of hair product on my hair. These efforts were much appreciated. I understand that these are students and I know they want to do their best. Maybe these are things that are standard at a barbershop, but not common practice in a salon? Maybe this college is geared mostly toward serving women and doesn't teach barbershop methods, skills, and attention to detail? I really like the woman who cut my hair. I know she wants to do well and I don't wish to embarrass her. As my daughter has reminded me, "Mistakes are ok, mistakes help us learn." read more

I just wanted to update my review. I am currently attending a massage school and one of the courses is anatomy. We were also 'taught' anatomy and swedish massage. The anatomy taught is about third grade level and is almost so simplified it's wrong. The swedish massage techniques are insanely basic and I implore anyone to please take a class with a massage professional, mostly to save your hands! Massage done incorrectly (as taught at this school!) Will RUIN your hands and various other body parts. And while I understand that anatomy may not appear important, when you're getting a facial from someone who is supposed to understand the structure of your skin but does not, that could be dangerous and bad for your skin in the long run. I'm glad everyone else who has posted a review feels like they had a beneficial education but this school really needs to take a look at it's out of date materials, techniques, and unsafe body mechanics. They need to make sure that every student can perform safely (body mechanics and safe message) on an individual level! It is NOT just about the state board, it is about quality of life after a certain point. Worst 13k+ I have ever spent. read more

I am a client at Fredrick's and Charles' and go on a weekly basis. I can do this because the prices are very affordable. The staff of the college is always outgoing and friendly. They make you feel very welcome and comfortable. The student that performs my services and I have formed a bond. I can see the growth and knowledge she has acquired in the last few months. I know for a fact that if she has any questions, Jeanie and her staff are ready to help her. The school has class every morning and the students are taught valuable lessons on the services they perform and will in the future. I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by a sweet gal named Melissa. I have long hair, have grown it out for some time and it was a bit nerve racking going in for a hair cut from students. Though I went in with an open mind and really just want to keep the length with some long layers. I asked a lot of questions and Mel was very informed and honest in her responses, thankkkkyou for that. I am pleased with my hair cut, very pleased really. The male teacher that came over to assist at the end/nod of approval was super kind as well. He showed the girls a trick to break up the layers in the back and though I wouldn't have noticed, ever, he assisted I'm improving her skills and cut. Over all, I recommend this place! Such a good deal for the price! I had Kelsey (pretty sure that was her name) give me a trim today and she was super professional and incredibly personable and friendly. I went in thinking I'd be getting bangs but after talking with the supervisor we decided it might not be the best cut for my hair. I really appreciated their sincere honesty and expertise. I could tell they wanted me to leave happy with my hair instead of just wanting my money. It was a simple $10 for a haircut which is the best deal in Humboldt. I have to say for 14k this school gave me everything I needed. In the past 3 years I've been licensed as a cosmetologist in California and I've earned an ample living with the knowledge I possessed from the instructors and administrators from this beauty college. The one "student" that decided to post a negative review was reprimanded for her consistant involvement in drama that she created. I stand behind the instructors and owners of this school for their decisions. Chanel is an effing saint for dealing with the amount of crap she gets on a daily basis from students and Jeanie (the admin) does everything in her power to keep you on track. If the students don't adhere to the program that's their problem. You go into beauty college as an adult and you're expected to act as one as well. If you aren't goal driven and want to play in the sandbox of other children that are there then, I'm sorry you wasted everyone's tax dollars including your own on an education that your choosing not to utilize. I can't say enough great things about this place. I've been cutting my own hair and haven't stepped foot into a salon in almost 5 yrs. Decided it's time to be someones guinea pig and let a student cut and balayage my hair and I couldn't be happier. Will did such an excellent, meticulous job on both my long hair and my Mom's short hair. I brought in a picture of how I wanted my hair and I'm honestly amazed at how much it looks like the actual pic. Misha also did a very thorough and precise job helping Will with all the balayage highlights. I loved how enthusistic they both were to work on my hair and they weren't afraid to go and ask the instructor when they had questions on how to do things. Jebb, the instructor is great at monitoring the students and stops by frequently to check-up making sure they are doing a great job and offering his experienced and professional techniques and tips. As a student: This beauty college is truly amazing!!! During my freshman phase the instruction and instructor was/is on point at all times!! The lessons were carefully organized and well thought out. The instructor teaches everything you need to know about passing boards and more!! After passing my freshman board, I entered onto the "floor" as a timid sophomore, but the instructors were quick to help build my confidence! Staff is ALWAYS encouraging and willing to help.
