A bit more time, as well as a straight edge would make all the difference.

I stopped by with my wife so we could both get cuts. Wife got a trim, plus conditioning. I got basically a military style haircut. The girl who cut my hair was nice, we chatted a bit while she worked. She was quick, which was great, but she missed some detail work around my ears, didn't clean up my eyebrows or mustache, either. As I left the building, I was shaking off a lot of loose hairs on the outside and inside of my shirt. I think they might need a better cape or whatever that they put around your neck. After she removed it, I still had some sort of disposable paper thing around my neck, which I removed myself. My last barber used a little hand broom to brush off hairs and then a vacuum to remove any remaining hairs. I rarely felt any itching afterwards, or the need to immediately go home to shower and wash off cut hairs. He also used a straight edge to shave my neck, and always trimmed and/or used the straight edge around my ears to leave a very clean, crisp look and feel. He always trimmed my eyebrows and mustache. Just a little touch up, that was much appreciated. He also used a warm towel, on my face and neck and a little bit of hair product on my hair. These efforts were much appreciated. I understand that these are students and I know they want to do their best. Maybe these are things that are standard at a barbershop, but not common practice in a salon? Maybe this college is geared mostly toward serving women and doesn't teach barbershop methods, skills, and attention to detail? I really like the woman who cut my hair. I know she wants to do well and I don't wish to embarrass her. As my daughter has reminded me, "Mistakes are ok, mistakes help us learn."

I have to say for 14k this school gave me everything I needed. In the past 3 years I've been licensed as a cosmetologist in California and I've earned an ample living with the knowledge I possessed from the instructors and administrators from this beauty college. The one "student" that decided to post a negative review was reprimanded for her consistant involvement in drama that she created. I stand behind the instructors and owners of this school for their decisions. Chanel is an effing saint for dealing with the amount of crap she gets on a daily basis from students and Jeanie (the admin) does everything in her power to keep you on track. If the students don't adhere to the program that's their problem. You go into beauty college as an adult and you're expected to act as one as well. If you aren't goal driven and want to play in the sandbox of other children that are there then, I'm sorry you wasted everyone's tax dollars including your own on an education that your choosing not to utilize. Otherwise the instructors and admins are really there for your benefit.

Anyway, this was the second one they attended in the area and I was in love with the smaller class size, gentle communication methods, tidiness, long term staff who truly love these kids. The owners are Christian and have infused teachings into the curriculum, which I love, but it is a respectful place that would not be uncomfortable for those who are not Christian as some of the families to bring their wee ones here are not. The school is divided into three classrooms - youngest kids (age 2) are in the Pollywog room, middle room is the Panda room and the think it is a big deal to move from Pollywogs to Pandas (which happens about age 3 and potty trained and they do potty train in partnership with parents in the Pollywog room) and oldest kids are in the Sunshine room and stay there until they launch out to kindergarten. I've had kids in every classroom now and we love it there; my daughter just turned 4 but fortunately with a late December birthday still has 2 more years at Play & Learn.

How did I change and overcome my fear? I was in the care of the Eureka Driving School, my instructor was Larry and he taught me that being calm and collected within myself was important. I was taught the mechanics of driving within small scenarios on the streets of Eureka (which was my biggest issue) then he would take me on long drives which helped my nerves. The sights and the repetitive motion of handling the car allowed me to become more comfortable in what I was doing. Trust me. Once your naturally readjusting your speed and checking your mirrors, then more focus on the road is offered which puts you in more control of the situation. Always know as well that your instructor is there to help and guide you. When it came to the drivers test. I had a previous prep which I highly recommend for everyone because it's sort of a sneak peak. For the confidence and support of Larry to be there for me from the start and finish. So I passed! I wouldn't have done so if it wasn't for the kind and respectable Eureka driving school so parents, if you want your children to be in a safe environment and learn how to drive instead of learning to do loops in the parking lot then this is the place for you. Everyone else, look into these lessons. It's worth the pay and your time, I assure you.

I tried hopping in the steam room only to find it has been broken for weeks, not hot at all. Only 4 showers out in the open and 1 of them worked very poorly. The cardio machines are fine but obviously of lower quality when compared to offerings at Healthsport. There are plenty of machines however some of the weight machines are VERY old but they get the job done. Wasn't busy when I went at 5 during the week. I wasn't able to do my complete workout because somebody else was using the only rope attachment for the cable machines. Overall, calcourts is an okay gym if you live in Eureka, it is $9 cheaper per month than Healthsport which could matter to you. I have decided that I prefer the atmosphere of Healthsport as the machines are newer and the whole gym is more modern. I also noticed that the people who work at calcourts are a lot less courteous and they do not give their members free guest passes ever. Healthsport invites me to bring friends in for free because they know that's how you get new members!!
