Fred spa (short for Fredericksburg Spa) is a hidden jewel. As you all probably know, every vacation that we go on without our child, we get a couples massage. This one was amazing, honestly the best massage we've gotten by FAR! My legs felt like jello after. I couldn't stop giggling because my husband was snoring!! I wish we lived closer so we could come back more frequently! If you're in town you MUST go! The waiting area feels cozy and you get to know your masseuses while filling out the paperwork. Then you walk through a curtain and feel like you're in a totally different building. It's so serene. The lights are dim, and music is playing. We had hot stones that melted all my aches away. Not what I wanted. I wanted a deep tissue accupressure massage and got Swedish with hot stone massage. She used a few targeted release techniques but the majority was very light and ineffective at releasing any tension. It was not very relaxing either as I felt like I was being lightly tickled. The massage didn't start until about 10-15 minutes after that. It was nice and relaxing, but I felt like they didn't really work the knots out of the target areas I had mentioned before. Sorry, this was not the best massage. It may have been an off day for the masseuse or something, but during the massage I was like when will this be over. When the masseuse did my feet, he basically used his nails, or maybe he had pointy sharp knuckles or something. It wasn't a relaxing massage, more of a okay let's get this done type of massage. They didn't even ask me if the pressure was okay. Never checked in on me. If you're like an athlete and need knots worked out roughly, then go to this place, but if you want a nice, soothing massage, then I recommend trying another place. Paid for a 90 minute couples massage. We were given a form to fill out before it started where you could indicate the areas you wanted the massage person (definitely NOT a masseuse) to concentrate. I asked specifically for my upper back, neck, and head. I asked for deep tissue and my husband Swedish. We both got exactly the same massage with the ladies working in sync. Out of 90 minutes, I got about 4 minutes on the area I asked to concentrate on. I had my very first massage today at FredSpa. It was so relaxing. I'll definitely go there, again.

My husband and I booked a 60 minute couples massage here based on the high online ratings but unfortunately our experience wasn't great. I've had 25-30 massages before and I'd say that there was no semblance of massage techniques used during our session. The technicians pounded on me and my husband with their fists and dug into our muscles with their elbows. They spoke to each other in another language throughout the whole session and didn't understand when I told them to go lighter on the pressure. During the head massage the technician literally put her fingers inside my ears and moved them in and out quickly. At the end of the massage both technicians repeatedly picked up me and my husband's legs and threw them up and down onto the table. The whole experience was comical and surreal. Afterward I was barely able to stand up straight. I've given a two star rating because although the massages were not good the ladies were sweet (but I'm not sure where they were trained). One other small note, you will be asked to take your shoes off outside and then have to walk around barefoot in the establishment, including the bathroom, which had old carpet squares laid down on the floor which seemed unhygienic. read more

Then came the twist. As part of the massage we moved from "relaxing" to a little "deep tissue". Holy !!! Don't get me wrong; it was excellent. But Not only did I have some knots and spots but she suggested I might have a little extra going on and gave me some exercises to work on it.
