Horrendous customer service. Purchased a gun online which was in stock but it still took them 2 weeks to ship it out. I contacted them on several occasions but they were very slow to respond. RANGE REVIEW: Beware of safety issues on range. I was hit with a piece of ricocheted bullet fragment that imbedded in my hand. The shooter was two lanes away. This is a safety hazard for all to be aware. I have shot all my life and never had this problem at a range. The range employees were exceptional people as was my experience with Nick at the counter. We walked in a couple of minutes after opening and put our name in the system for counter help as the one clerk was busy. There were five people running around in Trop shirts but only one helping a customer. Thirty minutes later and having not been so much as acknowledged by anyone we left after the counter guy started helping someone who had not signed in. The employees talked to each other but not us or another person that came in after. We went to another shop and bought a shotgun that morning. They waited on us in less than five minutes. read more

I must confess that I am relieved to read others' reviews - I made the mistake of thinking that the poor service at the gun counter was gender related. It seems men and women are equally dismissed by the gun counter staff. On previous visits, my husband was the primary customer and he received good service. We made many purchases at Trop's. However, the service I received when I visited as the primary customer in July 2016 was beyond poor. Until reading the reviews here, it looked like sexism. It's oddly reassuring that the poor service may be gender independent. Not reassuring is the fact that the owners are OK with the poor service at the gun counter. A few days after the experience, I wrote a letter to the owners describing my experience, explaining that 1) we've purchased many things from them, 2) I made a significant purchase that day despite the poor service because I'd invested a 3-hour round trip drive to get there 3) my choice to return to their store for trigger work and other future patronage depended on their response 4) my choice to refer others to Trop's also depended on their response. More than a month has passed since I mailed the letter. I've received no reply. I am pleased to say that I have found a wonderful pistol smith in Quakertown. Try Pinnacle. read more

I live in York, PA and was looking for a reputable gun shop. There are a few around me but the options and the pricing wasn't what I was looking for. I am brand NEW to being a gun owner. I have a license for conceal carry. I have shot some guns at the ranges here and there. If I have to give it a number, probably a handful of times. I am NOT an expert in guns and I would probably rate myself as the average weekend shooter once in awhile. I was looking to purchase an AR15 style rifle and was set on the newer S&W MP15 sport II. I have been searching around for prices, comparing online price w/ store prices. Luckily I stumbled upon Trop Gun shop and saw that they had that specific model on sale for only $599. I am certain that people can get it for a few bucks less if they purchased it online. However, I am willing to pay extra just to see it in person before buying. Needless to say, this was a fair price for me and it seems to be the best around where I am. I walked into the store, spoke w/ the sales rep, purchased the gun and that was all there is. The sales rep was attentive and respectful in what I was looking at. He answered all my questions and showed me around for ear muffs and told me what he was thinking. I did not feel pressure to purchase anything at all. I looked at several other guns along w/ the AR15. The store has a lot of options and the prices of other things around is very fair. We have to keep in mind that these stores need to pay rent, pay staff, so their prices will always be higher than online. The store seems pretty high tech in which there is a way for customer service electronically like the DMV and not just everyone stand behind one counter and wait. They also have a shooting range which in my opinion, the prices are VERY FAIR. it is cheaper than almost every places I've seen so far. Their ammo is also fairly priced. They will also help w/ online purchases or trades for $20 fee to be the receiver. I haven't shot at their range yet, but from the looks of it, it's good. So far, I am very happy w/ my service there. It will take me about 30-40mins to drive there one way, but I think it is worth my time. I will most likely be coming back to this gun shop and range from this point on. read more

It's a shame this used to be my go to gun shop two owners ago. They've changed their business concept to make more money and it's obvious that is all that is important. The new staff versus the old old trop staff for the most part are amateurs that like to play Rambo. The take a number and wait 45 minutes to have none of your pro level questions answered service is not for me. The range is really nice when you can get in. I took their class to be draw certified which is a bit of a scam. The instructor was at least knowledgeable and conscientious. One employee helped me set up the sling to my AR and was very helpful. It's a one stop shop for merchandise but the prices are high and I would never buy a firearm from them. I was treated poorly when I first started to get interested in firearms at the old location and that has left its mark. I hear similar complaints from friends. I prefer the stores around here that share their knowledge and give you honest opinions. Backwoods Outfitters is my favorite and I purchased many firearms from them. Trop still has its issues. To me, Trop has varying customer service and a high price tag but there are still some good guys over there too if you catch them. read more

Avoid this place, they are crooks. Range time is $20 per hour, but they always say they are too busy, and only let you shoot for a half hour for 12.50. Not fair if you asked for an hour. I purchased a handgun here in 2017, traded in another gun for $75 at the same time. Didn't check my receipt until I got home and found they had charged me full price. I called the store and was told the $75 was mistakenly put on my account. Next time I was there, no more than 30 days later, was told they had gotten a new system and had no record of the $75 but a manager could help me, none were available that day. Same thing happened about 6 months later. Now almost 3 years later still haven't seen my $75. Was told they sent an email notifying people any store credit would be lost if not spent when their new system was implemented. Talk about shitty customer service. They pretty much stole from me. People at the gun counter are very arrogant and rude. They would rather spend their time talking to their friends than serving their customers. They have no interest in helping after the sale with warranty work or questions. They also used a box cutter to open a box that contained a replacement pistol, damaging the plastic case and told me to call the factory about it. Don't even try to call them on the phone. read more

You can not trust what your going to order online. This is the second time an order was screwed up. First time got a gun with out nights and had ordered with night sights. The second order, they screwed up. They listed a gun with night sights and got one without. They wanted me to pay a restocking fee. There selection at store is minimal. Stopped in with my daughter who is moving from one job to another in law enforcement and was looking for an off duty carry. I am a gun owner and know about guns but am aware that many, many people know much more that I so am always apprehensive of what I am going to run into in the way of staff in a gun store. We were greeted at the door by a few women employees who were happy to point us in the right direction. We encountered a young man who would be our salesman. I think his name was, James (went to Delaware and GW in case the owner reads this and wants to tell him he is a star). I do not think that the gun we bought is really relevant but what is relevant is that this young man took his time with us and helped us to understand what the best options were and why and did so in a polite and helpful way. He, and the other staff members that joined in our conversation, were gentlemen and just great to deal with. They may not think how they treat others makes a difference, but it does. My daughter lives in Philadelphia and I am right outside the city. I will be glad to drive to this store for future purchases. And ...prices are very competitive to any I have seen. While the main store staff was well trained and friendly, the gun counter personnel were rude and clearly thought they were doing you a favor by waiting on you after ignoring you as long as they could. I wanted so bad to like this place. Best range around by far. However, the customer service on the retail side is disappointing to say the least. I purchased a gun from them. First time I shot it (6 rounds) the magazine dropped every time. I brought it to their attention, they "tweaked" it. Second time I fired it (30 rounds) it double fed 5 times. I brought it to their attention again and they suggested sending it off to the manufacture (me, sending it directly...they didn't even take the responsibility or offer to do it for me as a good faith gesture/service). I just purchased it from them, so that was unacceptable to me so I asked to trade it in on a handgun twice the price I paid for the original. The value they were "willing" to give me on the "defective" gun THEY sold me was alarming. To top it off... They informed me that Their "advertised" Trade-In Special didn't apply to me...or basically that they wouldn't honor it. On a separate note...I emailed their ecommerce dept about a special order. I never received a reply. A week later, I went into the store (40 mile round trip) and asked again (Spoke to Ben and another person) who wrote down everything and said they would research it and contact me. It's been 2 weeks and I have never received a call or email about it. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews. This place as the best range and the people at the range (Chris) and instructor (Ryan) are incredible, genuine, and helpful. I know I can buy anywhere or on gunbroker.com however it would be so convenient to be able to buy everything there. Don't give me the run around. Things happen, I get it. But when they do, take responsibility. You had an opportunity to delight and instead you chose to disappoint. I went to Trop for the first time and it was a great experience!!! I've traveled a lot all over the United States and this was one of the nicest gun shops I've been to. The range is state of the art and they also have reaction targets. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. If you are a cigar smoker they have a patio/deck on the second floor where you can smoke. On top of all that I mentioned they also have a very large selection of guns and shooting products. I don't know if the people who live and go here know how lucky they are to have this type of facility in their area. Just an amazing place!!!! read more

They have a good selection of firearms and accessories but the staff is probably the worst I've ever encountered. McDonald's has a better pool of skilled workers than this circus. I went to transfer two handguns. The moron who did it complained the entire time about how hard it was. Another moron came up and started fiddling with my gun, racking the slide, looking at it, etc. while the other moron tried to figure out the paperwork. When I went to pay, another idiot kept bugging me about getting some stupid loyalty card or something like that for 10 minutes until he finally took my money. 2 1/2 hours later I finally got out of there. I go to Trop frequently for odds and ends that I need for 3-gun. Great store, tons of selection, but could use some more 3-gun items as it's becoming popular. However, I just picked up a pistol I purchased to find that it was faulty out of the box. They treated it fantastically!! Rather than telling me I was SOL and had to pay $25 to send it back to the manufacturer they gave me a whole new one and allowed me to take time testing it (without firing it of course) and tested it themselves to be sure it was ok. It's sad how this place has gone down hill. This use to be my favorite store. I've purchased a couple of guns here, also transferred a gun here from a private sale. I recently purchased a Glock 43 and when stippling, the frame warped and the mags were sticking. I had to get a new frame which meant new background checks. I called Trop and they didn't have any frames and didn't seem like they were interested in ordering one. I had to pay $40 for overnight shipping from Glockstore because the stripped frame is legally legally the pistol and required to be overnight, then when I picked it up at Trop expecting their normal $15 transfer fee, they ended up charging me $49. The gentlemen that helped me asked his associate if they really had to charge me a transfer fee and he was told that they do. I thought that was nice of him to ask expecting the $15 fee and then found out just like all of their other prices in the store, they have become ridiculous with their transfer fee as well. It's sad but won't be spending any more money at Trop. Below is a picture of the frame which was $75 but then tack on the shipping $40 and Trop transfer fee $49 and it ended up costing $164 because they couldn't or wouldn't order one. read more

Just tried to go the gun range this morning but apparently it was closed due to a private event, which is fine, except for the fact it wasn't on their website, just two little pieces of paper on the front doors. I drove 40 minutes to come here and shoot at the range and to find out it was closed, really bad advertisement. So if anyone ever travels a distance to shoot here, make sure to call ahead to see if the shooting range is 'closed'. read more

Trop has a wide-range of guns, accessories, and ammunition. However, their range is incredibly frustrating. The past two days I attempted (as a non-member) to rent a lane to shoot. The first day, I was instructed the wait time was OVER FOUR HOURS. The second day, I entered Trop twenty minutes after it opened. I reserved a shooting lane and was instructed there was an hour and a half wait. I decided to wait patiently, as this is one of the only ranges in the area that you do not have to be a member at to use. After waiting over an hour to shoot, I approached the range staff and was instructed that range members had come in and rented lanes and that my wait had now increased to an additional two hours (on top of the hour I had already waited). As far as I can see, if you are not a range member at Trop (memberships cost around $500), you are treated as a second class citizen. After the past two days, I will no longer go to Trop and will no longer advise others to go to Trop. It is a real shame because it has great potential. read more

I have been a die hard Trop's customer for years. I have spent a small fortune there and have referred many people to their store. I have always received outstanding customer service there until recently. I do not know what happened but it went from one of the best to one of the worst. It had been about a year and a half since I had been in. I did the online "take a number" thing thinking that they would take the customers in order but I guess if you are a friend of the guy behind the counter you can just step to the front of the line. When he finally got around to acknowledging my presents, I felt like I was just an inconvenience. I understand everyone has bad days and just assumed I went in at a bad time. I returned a few weeks later and got the same treatment from someone different. My surprise must have shown on my face because I was approached in the parking lot by two other customers who were just as disappointed as I. The one gentleman told me about a shop in Mechanicsburg on the Carlisle Pike called Spar. I gave them a try and felt like I was at the old Trops. I have since purchased myself 2 handguns, one of those evil assault rifles, several hundred dollars in ammo as well as buying my girlfriend a handgun and have brought both my sister and my mother in to buy their first handguns. It has added up to quite a large chunk of change that Trops has missed out on because they cannot be bothered to treat their customers with a little respect. Did the store change hands? Were they bought out or did someone retire and leave the place to their kid? I guess I am just amazed and a little shocked by how much it has changed in a year and a half. I imagine they won't care but they have lost a loyal customers who spends way to much on firearms. read more

I've been here several times and it was fine when you're purchasing items. The shooting range staff ignored you. I, being unsure of their rules and regulations, called beforehand to follow up. When I arrived, I registered but later went up to ask more questions. The man working at the computer said nothing, the man who just got done registering someone even put his clipboard down right in front of me and said nothing. I'm a little intimidated, I will admit, being a first time shooter and a woman who knows nothing about it....but isn't that what the staff is here to help you with?? I have been to Trop 3 times. Same experience every time. Very good inventory and facility, but with those comes the high overhead which reflects in their prices. Gun counter staff was rude and couldn't answer the two questions I asked. My advice is research what you want to buy and go there to check it out. If they are rude just order it online and pay a small transfer fee at any FFL. If they can actually act like a salesman then I don't mind paying a extra to get it on the spot. read more

I bought a glock 17 gen 3 from Trop in the summer of 2015 it was used I paid 600$ as it had some work done to it already it came with one mag and didn't even have the box they gave it to me in a cloth bag. this is the list of what i did to it. I stippled the grip installed a 1.5 lb trigger had the front and back and both sides of the slide serrated and painted the slide. got a new barrel that had previsions for a suppressor. and I know have 4 17 round mags and one 23 round mag. i went to vacation to TN in July of 2016 to visit my old vet friends and shot my buddies 1911. when i got back to pa i went to Trop to see what they would give me for my glock 17 if I traded it in on a .45 cal glock. they looked at the pistol and told me that there is a good bit of work done and i explained what was done and he says they usually give 65% of what there going to sell it for. he then said they would sell it for 350$ and they offered me 270$ I looked at they guy and said 270$ your kidding, he says yea then proceeds to call over another guy he says knows more and he looks at it and the first guy says we would probably sell it for 350 and the other guy agrees. thats when i hat them with the bombshell and told them i bought it from them 1 year prior and paid 600$ and it only had one mag and none of that work and show them my receipt they guy looks at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead and puts down my pistol and walks away, i then look at the first guy and he says well maybe i can talk with my manager about giving you a little more and i said dont bother were done here, and said you guys have lost my complete respect by lying to my face. they were selling used regular glocks for 450$ they are full of shit and my word of mouth is spreading to everyone i meet ! will never buy from trop again... this is from a former US Army Ranger read more

Don't ever sign up for the Primer training class. It was advertised as an extended and interactive "try before you buy program". It was advertised at 1 1/2 hours. Since I have never owned or handled a gun, it sounded perfect for me. It was a ripoff of my $64.99. The class was a PowerPoint presentation and the whole class was 20 minutes long. The closest I got to a gun were pictures on the PowerPoint. I didn't even get to see any guns. I could have learned more than I did from this "training class" by just reading online or asking other gun owners. When I complained and requested my money back I was told the coupons I got were worth more than the cost of the class. I offered to gladly return the coupons but then got no response at all. I will buy a gun elsewhere and be sure all my friends know how bad Trop treated me. Training class was definitely a waste of money and a big rip-off. read more
