The pub is small but nice and both staff members we saw today (young ladies) were polite, friendly and gave good service. We both decided to try the chicken curry which was pretty good, tasty, plenty of chicken and a nice level of spiciness. The mango chutney had a nice bite to it. Two thumbs up on this one. Yes we will be back - given the amazing Bulls Head in nearby Repton it is hard to give more than 3 stars - but remember folks - 3 stars in pretty damn good!!! Most nights of the week, the Wheel is full because of its good reputation and the fact that it shows most big sporting events. The pub itself is a fair size, but not huge and has an open plan feel, with a good range of outdoor seating too. On Friday and Saturday nights it is packed to the rafters, especially as most Saturday nights have live entertainment - bands, individual singers etc. Some of the acts attract quite a following, so if you want a seat, its best to get there early. The bar staff are friendly, even though they seem to be permanently busy. A good pub, that serves good beer in a lively atmosphere.

The locals are friendly so if you are out of town, dont worry you will be made to feel welcome by the owners and the regulars.

We what I can only say is the best Steak and Ale pie I have ever had called The White Shield. It is served with vegetables and their chunky chips along with ale gravy the whole meal was delicious. Make sure you have a spoon to get the last of the gravy. Along with a well cooked meal the staff delightfully welcoming and friendly which give the place a great ambiance. I have no hesitation in recommending it.
