Such a cute little diner with a fun 1950s vibe! I loved all the vintage touches, especially the model cars, it really gives the place character. Service was fast and super friendly, which always makes a difference. The food was excellent. I had the Western omelet and it was packed with flavor with onions, peppers, lots of bacon (yes, plenty!), and cheese. The hash browns were cooked just right too. And the pancakes? This is a cute, roomy place. Service was good and fairly quick. I only ordered grits and bacon. But those grits tasted like the Ancestors were directing them on how to season them. I'm a "no sugar" grits person. When I tell you that they had me at first bite, I am not kidding you. Dropped in for what turned out too be a great breakfast. This location has two main seating areas. On this visit we sat in the back room which was very clean and very quiet as there were only two other tables of guests in the room. I would say it was almost too clean because the odor of Fabuloso was in the air. Not my favorite scent. We had a very friendly server who took our drink orders and then came back to take our breakfast order a few minutes later. I ordered the Denver omelette with hashbrowns and whole wheat toast. I asked that the hashbrowns be well done. The food was delivered in a timely fashion but the hashbrowns were still not quite what I would consider well done. They were good, just not as crispy as I would like. The Denver omelette was excellent and was filled with visible chunks of ham, green pepper, onions and a little cheese. Very good. The coffee was actually pretty good. A lot of times in diners the coffee is very weak and watered down tasting. Freeway Café is on my list of frequent breakfast stops. read more

A burger for my wife with a generous helping of the great fries. The good tasting burger had a thin beef patty dressed out with L,T, P, O and M, on fresh buns, hold the mayo. This was a very pleasant surprise. We were on our way back to OKC, and spotted this gem on the way out of town. Everything they served was fresh, hot and very tasty. Turkey platter, Chicken sandwich and their BLT was a triple decker. P.S. Their pies reminded us of Pioneer Pies. So much, we had to take our dessert to go. PLUS, one of the cleanest restaurants we have ever been to. We had a clear view of their kitchen from where we sat, and it was spotless. Restrooms too. Wait staff was impeccable. I have eaten at the Freeway Cafe for many years. They have three locations in Tulsa. It is a down home come as you are family restaurant. They have an extensive menu to select from. For an appetizer we usually order the Eastside Onion Rings (an old recipe from the old East Side restaurant). If you are old enough you may have eaten there. I usually order the chicken fried steak that is very large, or like this time I ordered the broasted chicken with mashed potatoes, corn and a side salad. My wife ordered a vegetable dinner. With salad, brown beans, French fries. The onion rings come piled high on a platter. Enough for four people. The Broasted chicken comes with a leg, wing, thigh and a breast. ( I already ate the drumstick before I remembered to take the pictures ) It was very good. Only drawback to ordering the broasted chicken is it usually take about twenty minutes because they cook it when ordered. read more

Work downtown I have an hour for lunch. Went to Freeway today and sign said seat yourself. Not crowded at all so I took a booth seat. Got water and a menu and sat there for over 15 minutes watching two servers talk to one table of "friends". Even when they walked away from their friends I was never acknowledged. Had high hopes from how busy it was but got awful service so I personally won't be back. We were told to seat ourselves so we did. Our waitress seen us and came to us after a few minutes and asked what we wanted to drink. After we got our drinks we literally sat there for 10-15 minutes waiting for her to come take our order. My husband had enough time to drink a cup of coffee after it cooled down a bit. Our waitress cleaned 3 tables sat two different tables after us and got them both drinks and had taken their orders.. we literally got up and left as she was cleaning the third table right next to us. I can eat awful food and still give a 4-5 star rating as long as the service was decent but this server sucked and that's why it gets one star!! read more

Another classic little diner in Tulsa. It's a decent size but not a ton of wiggle room either. I'd say it's definitely best to stick to smaller group sizes. I think they technically don't have any tables that seat more than about 5 people and even that's pushing it (just spacing wise, because adding a 5th chair to a four person table takes up more floor space than what they realistically seem to have). Not a bad thing at all, just something to think about if you're thinking about going with a group! The staff was pretty friendly and were as accommodating as they could be (again, in reference to making the seating work). They came around to the table often to make sure we were good on refills and that we didn't need anything. I appreciated that their breakfast menu not only had a lot of choices, but a lot of options within those choices. For example, they have lots of different types of omelettes, among other things. I also liked that, like many other diners, you can order random things à la carte, which I what I decided to do this time around. I got a fruit bowl, hash browns, and two eggs any way. I always get confused about the names for how eggs are cooked, and when I asked the waitress she was able to help me figure out that what I wanted was "over medium". They came out just like I liked them (runny on the inside but hard on the outside), so I was super glad I asked her and that she knew her stuff! The fruit bowl was strawberries, blueberries, and green grapes. I was happy about the blueberries since they're one of my favorites but I don't get to have them much for some reason. I could have had a bit more of the fruit but it was fine. The hash browns on the other hand were a pretty big portion. If the three things I ordered they were definitely the most bang for my buck, so to speak. They filled up about half of the oval plate! They had a thin layer of golden brown crispiness on the outside and the inside was soft and a good consistency. I did add some salt and pepper to give a bit more flavor to them, but I think that's to be expected almost. I also had coffee, which I don't normally do. I liked it (though I'm not much of a coffee connoisseur anyway) and I liked how they had some different basic flavors of creamer and types of sugar/ sweetener to choose from. Everyone else at my table's food looked good too! This is just an easy place to go for a casual meal and you won't end up spending a ton but could still get a good amount of food from it, so it's a good deal all around! read more

Okay so I've driven by here a thousand times. I've heard my friends brag on it. TBH: I don't frequent places without alcohol as a general rule. No I am not carb loading or going into hibernation--I just like starch on my carbs w my starches Started w the fried mushrooms, pure perfection. Since Joe Momma's closed I've been in search of the perfect fried mushroom discovered kiddies! Fresh sliced mushrooms and hand breaded, not greasy despite being fried. We would like to give our dining experience a 4 1/2. My husband and I went there for the first time and we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was fun and our dining experience was too. He got Grilled Pork Chops with eggs , biscuits & gravy, and hash browns and would give it a 4 1/2. He said his pork chops were moist and flavorful and his eggs were perfectly cooked. We both would give the biscuits & gravy a five (5) and thought they tasted absolutely yummy. I had ham steak, eggs (over medium,) hash browns and biscuits & gravy. My eggs were very good and I would say they were cooked just like I ordered them. I did not enjoy the ham steak too much, I thought it tasted too salty. I was not a fan of the hash browns, but my husband really liked them. He said they were crispy, hot, and not too oily. We had a nice waitress and that added to our positive experience. Also, the portions were definitely a good size. One last thing, because it was our first time there they surprised us with a HUGE Cinnamon Roll . This is not a place I would normally eat at because it's out of my normal routine of life, but I'm glad I tried it. The place was packed due to Sunday post church rush. We thought we got in after the rush but we're wrong. The parking lot is tiny and one way as far as I can tell. The inside is clean and has the decor of old-school dinner that appears that it was done recently. Our server was quick and friendly. My group of four ordered two servings of onion rings. It was plenty. The onion rings were amazing. The flavor was perfectly sweet for an onion ring and what appeared to be sliced onion. The breading was perfect: not to dark in color, flavorful, and light. My chicken fried steak was great. It was perfectly fried, but the cook was a little too excessive with the meat mallet. I had a hard time lifting the steak with a fork because it would start to come apart when I did this. I believe this to be a preference of less beat up meat. We don't give enough credit to good frying but there is a lot to a perfectly frying something. The temp, time need to be correct and the oil needs to be clean.
