The facility needs refreshing and a deep cleaning! The ladies bathroom has been neglected for years. The floors in the main dining room are dirty and need to be replaced. The owners of 30 years need to put some money back in the place. The side salad they brought for my husband appeared to have been sitting out for hours. The lettuce was brown and wilted and had mostly lousy iceberg lettuce. I pointed it out to our server and told her if that was what they would put in the shrimp salad I had ordered, then I didn't want it. She assured me they had fresh lettuce that had been chopped earlier that day. The salads came out and I had to pick out "dead" pieces of lettuce throughout. I picked out black/brown wet pieces of what used to be lettuce. I at the iceberg just to have something in my stomach knowing it usually causes indigestion. I will say the boiled shrimp was well prepared and tasted very good dipped in the avocado salad dressing. Owners got off of some of your profits!! read more

It is very sad for me to leave a one star review. My husband and I used to frequent this restaurant because it is in our neighborhood, but after last night's meal, we won't be returning. I ordered the peel and eat 1/2lb of chilled shrimp. The shrimp was old and mushy. The server forgot that I ordered a cup of the she crab soup, so I cancelled it. There are glass dividers between the booths. The one behind me was filthy! I almost tripped over a tray stand that was not put aside when we were seated. If I have to be subjected to one more server with a pierced nose, I am going to be sick. There seems to be no pride or standard in this restaurant's presentation of either its cleanliness, food freshness or wait staff. So sad! Didn't used to be this way!!!! read more

I'm not sure how it's possible but there is absolutely no flavor in the crawfish etoufee. Like it's bland. I ordered a Togo meal and there's no flavor at all. I also ordered the jambalaya......it also had no flavor. The white rice that came with it had more flavor than both meals combined. You can't call yourself a Cajun restaurant and sell food with no flavor. Can't say I'd go back or even recommend this place. They charge way too much for the food to be this bland. read more

I'm betting this place was a sports pub that someone tried to make into a French bistro/restaurant. The iron w/ marble top tables are good, ubiquitous black/white flooring, pretty mural at the entry...but too many booths, and why, with great windows on two sides, you would cover the light with cheap & poorly hung white curtains, rendering the place dark rather than light & airy as most real French bistros are is a mystery. And the bathroom, which hasn't been redone from sports bar days, is a dead giveaway. Oh, and I really don't need to see into the kitchen--it's not a charming view, so out some doors on it! As for the food, I had the she-crab bisque for lunch, which was just tolerable, no better, ant not a hint of the promised sherry. Warm rolls served with it were good, though. Really need to wholly embrace your theme, upgrade decor & chef, and update. As it stands now, I won't return. read more

French Market Grille is one of our new favorite spots in Augusta! The waitstaff is always incredibly friendly and attentive, and I've never had to wait for a table. The menu offers a great selection of creole specialties as well as seafood, including some of the biggest oysters I've ever seen. The crab-chop has quickly become a favorite and seems to be a very popular item. We also tried the seafood sampler on our most recent visit, featuring a generous variety of peel-and-eat shrimp, crawfish and raw oysters. You also receive bread and salad with your meal, so there is always plenty of food. I love this spot! I've been for my birthday dinner twice and never regret it. They have awesome lunch deals with casual vibes, and then they are a little more upscale for dinner with reasonably priced delicacies. They have delicious authentic Cajun cuisine with perfectly cooked steak and seafood. They have a great bar with drink selection. Located in the Surrey shopping center offers the convenience of seafood after an afternoon of shopping. We were seated immediately just after 5. We started with the crawfish popcorn which was excellent. The breading/ batter was so light and flavorful, I would come here again just it. The Arnold Palmer was very good, but the amaretto sour from the bar was very weak...no taste of the amaretto at all. The dinner salad could not be more basic. One cherry tomato, wilted lettuce and 3 half slices of cucumbers. I had the lobster tails with red potatoes and my husband had the grilled tenderloin. The lobster tail was very good with the brown butter and you can never go wrong with red potatoes. Once ago the seafood was nicely done. The tenderloin was a bit tough on the edges but very savory. The sautéed squash was nice as well. This restaurant is heralded as an Augusta staple. They really need to tighten up their game to stay competitive in the ever growing CRSA food scene read more

I didn't plan on doing a review but their lack of empathy has irritated me! 3 of us had dinner here Wednesday 3/22/23 and there was nothing to complain about! The food and the service were on point! I had the seafood combo my brother had steak and lobster and our friend had steak, we all had good things to say about our food during dinner, Thursday morning my brother flew to Vegas and our friend and I went to work, Thursday afternoon is where it all went south, I became violently I'll and spent until Saturday between the bed and bathroom, my brother in Vegas apparently did the same i found out Saturday, the only common thing was he and I split a dozen raw oysters! I had seen a news report about Florida closing the gulf due to salmonella in the oysters so I even asked where they were from and was told up north somewhere so I wasn't concerned and it didn't occur to me that it was the oysters until Saturday after speaking to my brother,I emailed the restaurant to let them know so they could address it and prevent anyone else from getting sick, I don't expect anything and didn't ask for anything but I got no response, no sorry no thank you for letting us know nothing!! I'm not saying don't go here but I wouldn't recommend getting raw oysters for awhile! read more

Wait was a little long, but that may have been due to my ridiculous hunger pangs which stretched it to eternity. I wish I could remember our waitress's name - she was AWESOME. All of us were a little overwhelmed with the menu but she definitely was straight up honest with her opinions on what sounded good. I've had (fast food) Creole/Cajun so thought I would go with what I know - etoufee. OH. MY. LORDY was this awesome. It took what I thought I knew about shrimp etoufee and jazzed it up about 100x. Now the curry was a little strong for my liking, but I got thru it all (clean plate club). The dinner salad beforehand was ginormous and the homemade avocado dressing was to die for also. So me and a friend were deciding on a lunch spot, and being that their are only so many places to eat in Augusta, we thought we'd venture over here to try out some good New Orleans inspired food. I have to agree with Kathleen M's grandmother, the shrimp po-boy was the bomb! I had initially planned to get the soft shell crab po-boy, but upon receiving it, wasn't really digging it, so our awesome waitress Tina told me she'd take it back and get me the shrimp one, which was definitely a good switch-a-roo! I loved it! We also tried the alligator popcorn appetizer, which was fairly tasty. The atmosphere is alright, and the food was good, so it's a give and take situation. Solid place - our table split the fried green tomatoes appetizer and I got the shrimp pasta (linguine with creamy alfredo and lots of parmesan). Fried green tomatoes were solid and the sauce was very good and had a nice little kick to it. The pasta was a great portion size and cooked well. The sauce was very creamy but not too overwhelming. However, I felt that the shrimp may have been overcooked because they were pretty tough. That being said, they give you a lot of shrimp! Service was wonderful and fairly quick. They provide bread for the table as well which is always a plus in my book! Prices are reasonable! Overall ambiance is pretty casual. Ok, I see a lot of 3.0 and lower scores for FMG, but here's my review. Been coming over 30 years but it's been awhile since I live away. Came in town with wife for a friday funeral, and picked our daughter up from airport flying in from Austin. Sunday night, trying to figure out where to go without reservations we finally decided to go to FMG. It feels like home; comfortable and safe. Even though Chuck sold a few years ago to Raes on River owners, the menu has not changed, and neither has the quality. Now I guess the lower ratings are from those who go to the newer Augusta restaurants, and just don't get FMG, so here's the scoop. The atmosphere is cool, music is feel good, food is good, and servers are polite. Go here and enjoy a good evening of cajun/creole food. If you want some snobby atmosphere with double the price, then just go below to the next parking lot and you'll find your Bistro. For me, give me FMG to make me feel safe, warm, full, and buzzed. read more

Enjoyed my time at the French Market Grille. We dined in the dinning hall with a party of about 30 people. Everyone was very accommodating and paid close attention to our full party the entire time. We appreciated the care they gave in giving us suggestions on what to choose since the bulk of us hadn't been there before. I had the Shrimp and Grits and they were so delicious. I couldn't believe how rich and creamy the grits were and the shrimp were very fresh. My cousin had the Walnut Chicken and I had to try a piece it was AMAZING! Two thumbs up! Very fast service. I definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Augusta. Make sure you try The French Market Grille out. This place was such a treat! No complaints from any of our party guests. It was a fine dinner. The wait staff were very attentive but not over-bearing. We went New Years Eve at 7:15pm and never felt pressured to eat and get out. The food was very good. I had the blackened seafood platter and everything tasted fresh. 2 people had the blackened filet. They thought that it was seasoned a little too much and completely over-powered the meat. One peso.
