Fresh Thyme is GREAT! I am actually surprised that the rating isn't higher. Everyone needs to stop comparing this to Whole Foods. It isn't Whole Foods. This grocery store is so much more approachable than Whole Foods and the employees are real people, not pretentious dicks. The shoppers seem to be the same. I would prefer this over Whole Foods any day of the week. I stop by at least once a week for some lunch items and am always pleased with the selection. I expected to be looking at $20 for a salad, kombutcha and a banana which is what I have paid at Whole Foods numerous times. I paid $10.22 and yes, made the salad very close to the same size. They have awesome deli, produce, butcher, chocolate, beverages, coffee, oils/vinegars, etc. Overall, I have not found anything bad about this place. Oh wait, I wish the tamales were a little cheaper. I do not know how they stay in business. Slowest cashiers on earth! When COVID hit and they closed their salad bar, I quit going. Figured I'd give them a try again today. I have 30 minutes for lunch. Wanted a sandwich, and some hard boiled eggs (and a couple other things for my office stash). Selected my items, and found only two cashiers working at 11:55 a.m. today, August 1, 2022. There were at least ten people waiting for each cashier. My line never moved as the cashier was doing a large order and was having pricing difficulties. Wait was too long for lunch. I put my selections back and left. When I was a assistant manager of a big-box retail store, if there were more than three people waiting, as a manager, I was on a register to relieve the backlog! Nobody paying attention at this place. Tried to go to Target but ran out of time. No lunch for me today. I won't be back, ever. Overpriced, limited selection, no more salad bar, glacially slow staff, and no awareness by management. This place will probably be a gym in two years. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've been shopping at this particular store/location since it opened. It's smaller than most grocery stores in the area but quaint. I don't need to take a hundred steps to the back to get my eggs and milk, their vegetables and fruits are always (each time I'm here) on sale, but are of good quality. They have the freshest napa cabbage I've found compared to Target & Cub. Sometimes I come here just for that. I don't know about their seafood, but I've bought their meats here and on occasion shop at their salad bar. Thank goodness for Fresh Thymes! read more

Tips and tricks: - Avoid on Saturdays unless you want to wait in line. - Make a list before you go (I focus my list on bulk bins, produce, cheese, and meat - those are the areas that this store SHINES) - Look at their specials. No really LOOK AT THEM. They post flyers online for the current week and next week. Wednesdays you can cash in on both ads. Their prices are FANTASTIC for sales and mediocre normally. - Buy gummy bears. These are the holy grail of gummy bears - they are in the bulk bins and are worth a trip. - Coffee beans are a great buy! You can grind in store. - The house made sausages are out of this world (spicy parm chicken and chicago hot pork are my favs) - normally priced 3.99 a pound, but frequently on sale for 2.99 a lb (either price is cheaper than jimmy dean or any other brand). - Their carts are small - if you have a baby in a carseat, the carts are not big enough to prop the seat on the front like normal grocery carts. They have an underground parking garage that is fantastic - escalators and an elevator option. Buy what's on sale - if you do, Fresh Thyme is the place to go. I stock up on pantry staples (canned goods, cereal, broth, butter etc) elsewhere. If you mostly buy dairy, produce, and meat - this is your store. read more

Never thought that a grocery store could turn my husband (who only did the Costco run) into a shopping junkie. He loves going on Wednesday bc they have double coupons. It's the perfect sized store, not too big, not too small. Lots of great produce and if you use coupons, they have some great deals, which is what he loves... gets me organic produce at a reasonable price. read more

Built on the idea of a large farmer's market under one roof, the quality and prices of the fruit and vegetables can't be beat. This is my once a week stop for more specialty groceries (although for many, it could be their regular groceries). If I make it on a Wednesday, they have a flyer overlap day where they have all the discounts from the ending week's flyer and the starting weeks flyer! Since they have opened, I haven't bought my meat or seafood anywhere else! I did have an issue with one item once, and I have to say that they went way out of their way to rectify things. Easily the worst natural foods market in the Twin Cities. So few gluten free options, it almost felt intentional. Overall selection is mediocre at best, and the deli/to-go section had very little you could actually eat on the go. 8 registers, but only 3 were open and the lines were 6-7 people deep. Fresh thyme is a alright place to shop if you want healthy food without spending the Whole foods money. It's waaaay to small, my husband and I wake up at the butt crack of dawn on Sunday's to get in before it gets too crowded. I usually just come in for bulk stuff like nuts, seeds and oats but, you can luck up and find some really good deals on produce. Ugh! I just wish this place was in a better location with a bigger parking lot. read more

Stopped in this past Friday to buy some different produce. First I tried to find some red-seedless grapes. There weren't many to choose from and as I started to pick them up I noticed a sticky film on every bag...to the point I had to walk to the front of the store to find the Purell cart wipes. I opted out of grapes and continued to brussel sprouts. I was happy to see a few bags left and ended up buying around $8.00 worth (literally the entire bag). A few nights ago I was preparing the sprouts and noticed little green worms crawling in well over half of the sprouts I cut open. Pretty disgusting!y read more

I really like fresh thyme. They have great prices on their produce, although sometimes I feel like with the lower price comes lower quality produce. Still though, I always go there to shop. They are somewhat of a niche market, too. You wouldn't find everything there that you could at target or other big stores. Their weekly deals are good too. Check them out. read more

I come here for all of my produce as they usually have pretty competitive prices! They also have a way bigger produce selection than Trader Joes and Whole Foods combined. My fourth or fifth time here. Love the beautiful produce and the meat and fish! Good buys and excellent quality. Pretty lousy customer service today, for some reason. I wanted something from the prepared food counter for lunch, but I saw a guy had been waiting for awhile there while two employees had their back so him, talking with each other. I moved on. I saw him later and he didn't have anything in his hands, so maybe he just gave up. I wanted to ask an employee walking toward me where the spices were; I said Hi and smiled at her...she mumbled Hi and kept walking. I asked her receding self the question and she looked annoyed and waved at a couple of aisles. Perfunctory answer from a guy in Produce too when I asked if they were out of something (they were). Customer service is fantastic and it's a very clean and well organized grocery store. The only complaint that I had is they changed their custom fresh pizzas to frozen pizzas instead (such a downgrade in quality). Instead of Fresh Thyme it's more like frozen thyme. read more

This grocery store is a combination of Trader Joes & Rainbow Foods. I hate both of those grocery stores. Also, when looking at lotion in the Health & Beauty section, a sad man who takes his job far too seriously was hovering over my shoulders. I told him the lotion says try me on the. Better than nothing I suppose, but this place is caught between a whole foods and a co op. Less selection, owned brands, creativity than whole foods, with less homegrown, specialty diet products than a coop. I can't say we were impressed. The store is cramped in areas and some of the product placement causes a lot of congestion. Especially in the deli and bakery area. Their weekly sale prices can be VERY good. Be sure to check the produce though. We found fresh and spoiled mixed together in a few different items. As one of the other reviewers mention, checkout can be a pain. That hopefully could be growing pains. The have a very good assortment of bulk items, and a good gluten free selection. Received the flyer on Sunday, went to the store and was informed in the fine print on the last page at the bottom that the specials are not good until Wednesday. returned on Thursday of that week to shop and get the special, they were sold out. Special was for Salmon, they had it but would not sell what they had at the special price, You have to wait for inferior product to get the price. It was only the second day of a week long sale. I love this place. The produce is super fresh, ethically priced and sufficiently varied. When you shop here, make sure to look for the deals, which are different every week. What I really enjoy about shopping here is the rich variety of food options, which include free range organic dairy and meat products. This place makes whole foods look like the greedy capitalists they are in Minnesota because their pricing structure make fresh organic foods off limits for working class families who do not recieve income subsidies. We have been disappointed in the quality of the vegetables and chicken we have bought lately. The beans were fresh but really tough and the chicken thigh package contained backs and about 1/4 of the chicken will need to be used for soup, which is not what we wanted. There are many other options in the twin cities to buy good quality food for a reasonable price. Doubt that we will return. read more

The standout upside: some prices -their sale items- are very low. The standout downside: it's a very incomplete store. The average person will not be able to shop for groceries for a complete meal unless they tailor that meal menu to the limited selection available in the store. To me that alone is almost a deal breaker: I like to cook and I don't like to compromise and that means I need broad selections. They fail at that. On the other hand, if you don't mind burning the gas and time to shop multiple stores, they should perhaps be on your list of places to visit. The store hits all the marketing hot buttons, and no doubt that will thrill a certain market segment, but I frankly find it annoying, at least in part because they sacrifice selection for trendiness. The bakery, for example, has a large gluten free section, but a simple loaf of store made Vienna bread or Italian bread was not to be found. (And just to make sure that they hit the proper marketing buttons, the store made bread is labelled, "Oven Baked". What? As opposed to refrigerator baked?) Just for fun, I remarked on this inane label to an employee who I suspect was a manager. He actually told me that it helps people to know that they're getting quality. Really? (Of course when I commented that the gluten free baked good section was the largest I'd seen he remarked that it's healthier, so he may have been working with limited intellectual horsepower.) And meanwhile ordinary staples are in short supply. I couldn't fine a 2 lb bag of simple, long grain white rice. There were, however, a variety of boutique rices. That experience was typical: there were a half dozen or more brands and sizes of imported butter and organic butter, or hand rolled butter but exactly one brand and size of conventional butter. Interestingly enough the brand -here in the home of Land O' Lakes, a member owned co-op that on that basis alone would probably hit all the hipster hot buttons if it weren't for the fact that their mothers and grandmothers knew about it first- was Amish Valley, which has apparently nothing to do with the Amish or for that matter a valley (the name is owned by a food distribution company from Detroit.) The result of that emphasis on the trendy at the expense of staples, coupled with the small size of the store, is that unless you plan your menu around their limited selection, the odds are you won't be able to complete your shopping without making a second stop. The organization of the store is difficult -the aisles are too narrow and because they intersect cross aisles oddly it is difficult to maneuver through the aisles with a cart. That may be a result of the relatively small foot print, but the explanation doesn't change the fact. I'd hate to be a mother with three kids in tow trying to get around in there. Similarly, the layout leaves no clear space behind the checkouts, so people are trying to shop in and around people in line for checkout. It just feels cramped and inconvenient. And then out of all those issues, there is one bright light: their specials are extremely inexpensive. Farmed salmon or 41-50 shrimp at $4 is a great deal. So is 77 cent tomatoes or avocados at 88 cents. Most of their prices are expensive compared to other options, but their specials beat the socks off the others. read more

This review is for the pizza and sandwich deli. I was in the store today and wanted to try a made to order pizza, went to the orders station and waited 10-12 min to order. There were three others there who already ordered; one lady waited 20 min for her hot sandwich and another about the same and each indicated that it should not have taken that long. I didn't speak with the guy, but he looked irritated at his wait. There was only one person doing the preparation and she didn't even acknowledge me until she came to take my order after the other three left. She had her name badge on, but didn't look for her name until I came back for my order and then she didn't have it on. The pizza was good, but my experience was not and will not be back. I really wanted to love this as it was advertised as a hybrid between Trader Joe's and a Farmer's Market which is a fantastic idea. I really didn't love it however. I love the concept of locally sourced food and a great selection of organic food however there are some issues that need to be worked out at this store. I have found that items on sale are consistently out of stock and I'm not sure if it's part of the growing pains of a new store or if it is intentional to draw people in the store. I would like to see more information about the sourcing of fruits, veggies and meat/seafood. The staff is friendly but not really knowledgable about in-stock items and where they come from. Also, they really need to do a better job of keeping sale items in stock or I will go elsewhere. read more

I have been to the store a few times since the grand opening, for the first 10 days, the price was great, the food is fresh. I love the homemade peanut butter, and the fresh juice bar. It is hard to park around the store, the entrance was not convenient. There is a underground parking which I couldn't even find the "entrance" for the first few times when I visited the store. We have pursed some "on sale" fish last week, and clearly it wasn't fresh at all. I didn't want to make another trip back to the store and ended up tossing the fish. We have purchased Castle Rock Organic milk in glass bottle, and found out that they do not recycle the bottle. read more

I shop at Fresh Thyme every week and today I have come across the most rudest cashier ever. The act itself was more degrading than anything. The girl cashier with pierced nose ring didn't even bother to greet and it seemed that she was made that we forgot to package one of the meat in a plastic wrap. My poor ma was so kind enough to bag the grocery and the cashier tossed one of the grocery at my mom like we were some kind of homeless begger. The standard of customer service is something the company needs to remind their employees. I am truly disappointment and it makes me not come to this store anymore. read more
